Short answer: Yes, it's completely possible!
Long Answer: Much like the real world, success depends completely and when and how it's performed. While Rock music is definitely their most popular and standard genre, there's varieties to rock (such as pop and heavy metal) that have their own established following.
For genres not related to rock (rap, classical, electronic, etc), there are many open minds who love hearing new styles of music. A talented enough group that plays to the right crowd could potentially spark a new musical movement in the Belt. While the crowds they play to are smaller to start off than a rock concert, over time their music will spread through the Belt and many local musicians may also start copying the style to try something new.
they could play to the wrong crowd and/or play poorly enough that they just get rotten potatoes thrown at them, or an angry audience. Music is subjective after all. It's up to the players generally how it actually goes down.
