Stefan's a carryover from a previous game (savetheearth) where everyone was reincarnated into a new life and would slowly become their canon selves over time. So he's stuck between the guy he was in canon and the guy he was in StE, who was a huge Muslim interfaith activist :')

so, tl;dr, reincarnation AU? I should also mention Stef was also a huge fanboy of a PJO knockoff novel series (his favorite character was an expy of Jason Grace). He won't recognize Annabeth, but he'd sure mention the similarities between his favorite novels and... well, her life.
