He doesn't need to ask to know where that fear comes from, doesn't need to ask why Zaveid has spent so long avoiding him. Eizen had come to terms with his fate years ago, embraced it rather than struggled against it, and he knew Zaveid was going to keep his promise. He can only assume that he did, only assume that he was put out of his misery like he promised all those years ago.
