FIFTEEN FACTS FOR KITO HERE WE GO

1) Kirito is not his name at all! Surprise to no one who's seen his tag. It's a shortened version of his real name, KIRIgaya KazuTO. It's the handle he uses online. Why does he not share this? It's basically just habit to go by Kirito when he's in a weird new place, now.

2) Actually, amongst his friends, he's called Kirito a lot IRL, too. His girlfriend is especially guilty of it. He used to correct people, since it's kind of bad form, but he's basically given up on it now.

3) Everyone calls him Kirito because all of his friends are from Sword Art Online, which is the video game he was literally trapped in for two years. Like, seriously, could-not-log-out trapped. It was a big deal. It's lucky for him he didn't pick the name xxHotStud69xx.

4) Actually, Kirigaya is probably not his original last name, either. Kirito is adopted- his biological parents died in an accident when he was a year old, and so his aunt and uncle took him and raised him as their own. Since he took their family name, and his family is related on his mother's side, it's possible that his biological family had a different surname entirely. IT IS A MYSTERY, THOUGH. (He doesn't actually care, since he hasn't tried to change it.)

5) After escaping SAO and basically waking up from a two-year coma, he underwent some serious physical therapy to get back in a shape where he could move about freely. He's basically back to normal now, but it stunted his growth enough that he's still pretty scrawny. Doesn't help that he never eats enough.

6) Kirito is a computer whiz. He's been building computers from spare parts since he was little. Like, six years old little. At age ten he hacked into the family registry and unsealed his own records, which is why he knows he's adopted. It's kind of absurd.

7) He has a daughter! ...Kind of. In SAO, he and his girlfriend found a little girl who turned out to be a very advanced AI named Yui. She basically adopted them as her parents, and they're surprisingly chill about it. People sometimes tease them, but they're very proud of their robot child.

8) He's mostly over it now, but he had a bit of dysphoria regarding perceived-body and actual-body when he woke up from SAO. In-game, he never grew, but he was 14 when he started playing, so waking up to find his body two years older than he was used to was super weird.

9) You can win him over almost immediately with good food. Boy has a sweet tooth and a huge weakness for good flavour. I'm pretty sure he fell for Asuna half because she was a master chef.

10) He sort of subverts his own harem-anime trope by a) recognizing when someone's got a confession going on and b) nipping the romance angle in the bud right at the get-go. As a result, his circle of friends has a lot of girls but only one romantic interest. It actually weirds him out a bit that he has so many male chums in DF. Where did all this testoterone come from!?

11) Basically everyone agrees that Kirito's special talents and abilities are all related to the digital world- in a game he's an unstoppable berserker, but in real life, he's about as ordinary as you can get. Guys, he could have told you that. Why do you think he spends so much time in the digital world?

12) He digs motorcycles! In an era where most vehicles are quiet and electric-based, he rides around town in a gas-guzzler a friend sold to him for cheap. Everyone complains about the noise (and the smell a bit) so he's embarrassed about not getting something else, but he kind of loves it anyway. (He thinks he's so cool.)

13) He started wearing black a lot so that he wouldn't stand out, since in SAO everyone in flashy clothes get noticed (and therefore challenged in some way). It backfired spectacularly when he earned a reputation as the Black Swordsman, and suddenly everyone knew who he was. Sigh. He just can't break the habit, though.

14) Kirito has absurdly fast reflexes. His unique skill in SAO, Dual-Wielding, was granted to only the one out of ten thousand people with the fastest reaction time. It basically saved his life.

15) He kind of hates Christmas. If you sing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to him he'll probably cry. *
