Mid-October Event: Technical Difficulties
A year of mystery, space-chases, odd announcers, and strange planets has finally passed... but no one special has been sent home in a burst of glory. It seems like the twelfth "cycle" of the Drift Fleet is still going, despite an increasing number of errors and glitches affecting everyone's ships.
Atroma's had quite enough of that, by the way. Starting today (Oct 18th), passengers will suddenly find themselves somewhere very different... And perhaps unfortunately, very familiar.
It's the event we've all been waiting for...
The Drift Fleet Season Finale: Part II
→ Event calendar
This event will run from: Oct 18 - Nov 16th (may be extended if players need/want)
Initial mingle will be posted: Oct 18
Calibration posts will go up: Oct 20
Additional setting info will be posted: Oct 24 Nov 8~
Players are welcome to post additional mingles and/or network posts any time during the event!

Calibrations for characters A-M
Calibrations for characters N-Z
→ Welcome back
Those experiencing glitches on their ships and with their augments have noticed it getting increasingly problematic over the last week or so. Early on the 18th, another crackly message suddenly comes through... and after that, everything goes dark.
All passengers will wake up--who knows how much later--back on the ship where most of them started: the good ship HS Marsiva.
→ The Marsiva
Every passenger wakes with a familiar bone-deep chill, each tucked away in a room to themselves. These rooms are sterile boxes of metal, more like a clean cage or a cell than a living space--though each room comes equipped with a few creature comforts from "home". All of the rooms line one long hall that leads to a central living space, which is geared to take care of all your needs during your stay aboard the Marsiva. It is all clean, chrome, and completely windowless.
The Drift Fleet houses more than a hundred passengers, and they've all been gathered into the same small space for the first time. Will it be a relief, or will they miss the shelter of their ships?
Bedrooms
Every character will wake up in bed, wearing some default Atroma-provided sleeping clothes (a tank top and either shorts or long sleeping pants). The room is a little chilly, with nothing in it but a comfortable mattress, a metal chest, a few familiar objects, and the door. Everyone has their communicators with them.
It really does make one feel like they're a pet that has been put into a safe little cage, with someone throwing in a few toys to keep them happy; passengers will find two of their own outfits and 3-5 non-weapon articles/objects from their rooms on their home ships placed around the room. The door is featureless metal and starts off shut, but can be easily opened via touch-panel from both inside and outside the room.
Beyond the door is one long hallway lined with a couple-hundred doors. The hundred or so doors with passengers in them are each labeled with the name of the occupant, and all of the spare doors show no name at all. The 'empty' rooms also will not open.
Everything looks very clean, sterile, with almost nothing breaking up the smooth chrome walls and ceilings. All of the furniture is white, black, or grey.
Hallway and Living Space
It's a long walk, but there's a much larger "main room" at the end of the hallway. It has the same antiseptic look to it, but it has all the necessary comforts of living, and is generally more well-lit and welcoming than the bedrooms. Couches, chairs, and floor cushions are scattered about the central space, with a few round-walled reading nooks to the sides. The nooks are not really private, but at least they're set aside from the main area.
The nooks contain simple shelves lined with a wide assortment of books, as well as a smaller assortment of music and movies. All of the media is of Earth origin, from widely-varying decades and in several different languages. Movies and music can be played on computer panels in the nooks and main area, and there are some headphones set out for those who don't want "The Sound of Music" blasting through the whole living area (for example). Players can assume basically any real media from Earth is there, but in the case of character canons, please replace them with a more generic version to avoid fourth-walling for this event.
Ah, yes. And there is a somewhat-ominous digital timer beside an enormous, central screen in the main room. It initially reads "Next Calibration In: 57600", and counts down by the second. When it reaches zero, the lights begin to dim, signaling that it is time to sleep. It is reset when characters wake up every morning.
Passengers may also notice a few security cameras embedded in the walls and ceiling of the main living space, and they're welcome to pull those apart--but any engineer can verify that they're not actually on, or even being powered by anything.
Kitchen
A large kitchen is also located off to the side, with several long tables to mark the dining area. It mostly serves proteins like on the regular ships, though all of the possible flavors are present. There are also some basic raw ingredients available, with a full kitchen appliance array open for anyone who wants to cook. Coffee, tea (green, black, and mint), limited alcohols, water, milk, and juices are all available in the refrigerator and dispensers. And yes, there are even a number of frozen packages of meat in the freezer.
Bathroom
Down another hall is the public bath space. One branch leads to the toilet stalls, and another leads to showers with comfortable, individual stalls and changing spaces--with a few of the bathing stalls having tubs instead of shower heads. And in the middle of it all, there is one open hot tub that can fit six people at a time. Enjoy!
Gym
Found in yet another nook off to one side of the main room is an exercise space. It's not very big, but there are a few treadmills, weight sets, and punching bags for anyone who wants to use them. They're identical to the exercise equipment on the hospitality deck of the Marsiva.
→ What happens here?
Many characters will be initially distracted by the large screen in the living area, on account of Atroma's hosts appearing to speak with the passengers for the first time in this cycle's history. This will be part of the initial mingle, linked near the top of this post.
But after that, passengers can do whatever they want. They can eat, hang out in the hot tub, lounge in the living space, try to hide in a nook, conspire with other characters, etc. Appliances, furniture, lights, and surface panels on the walls are all destructible, but the structure underneath is not. Anything broken or tampered with will be mysteriously reset back to its default the next day.
Passengers can sleep whenever and wherever they like, with one exception--everyone will fall asleep at "night" (when the lights dim and the counter reaches zero), even if they are creatures who don't normally sleep. Regardless of where and how they fall asleep, everyone will wake up in the "morning" in their room, on their own bed, in their default sleeping clothes.
Also, further developments will appear next week (around Nov. 1st), with special things for characters to do if they so choose.
→ Calibrations
During the "night" cycles on the Marsiva, many characters will find themselves in the mysterious Calibration rooms of other characters--and may also be Calibrated themselves. This will be happening throughout the entire event, with players welcome to decide how much of it the passengers remember when they wake up the next morning.
For details on how Calibration rooms work, refer to the Calibration Pre-Planning post from earlier this month!
Time doesn't necessarily pass in the Calibration rooms the same way that it does in the real world... So characters may visit several calibration rooms over the course of as many nights, or they could visit multiple rooms in only one night. There may be a long stretch where they don't visit any-- however you want to play it is fine.
Showing up as a visitor in Calibration rooms does seem random, however, as the characters themselves have no choice over whose rooms they visit when. Again, who they visit is entirely up to players to decide OOC-ly.
We'll be asking players to post their calibration starters in one of two posts, depending on the first letter of their character's name (as it is listed on their comm tag.) Hopefully, this will help prevent us running into comment limits, and make it easier for people to check the posts for new content throughout the event. And it is good to check these posts frequently, as many players will likely be coming in late to the event!

→ New characters
Any characters accepted after the start of this event will still spend their pre-Shuffle days on the hospitality deck of the Marsiva as usual. When they're Shuffled, they will be assigned a ship (which they can find by checking their communicators), but will be teleported straight to the event. They'll show up in a room of their own, and the only extra objects that will be found there are anything they may have had with them when left the hospitality deck.
Characters (and players!) who join part of the way into this event are still more than welcome to join in with Calibrations of their own, and comment around to other people's! There will never be too late a time to post a Calibration starter.
→ And finally...
Some additional details about the space will be revealednext week the beginning of November. There will be additional, optional things for the passengers to do from that point onward!
In the meantime, if anyone has a serious problem with any element of this event, either for character or player reasons, please let us know! Private-message the mod journal (spaceshipit) with your concerns. We'd like this event to be game-wide, but if the setting, situation, proximity, or anything else makes it difficult to play, we are more than happy to try and come up with a solution.
Otherwise, enjoy! Happy late-birthday, Drift Fleet! As usual, feel free to ask any questions or get clarification by responding to the comment below. We also highly encourage players to come back to this post for plotting, responding to others, and other event shenanigans.

1) How exact are the names on the bedroom doors going to be? Kirito's been using an alias with everyone, so... >_>;
2) Will there be any consequences if an engineer (or anyone, really) takes apart a camera and then tries to keep the parts?
3) What kind of media is acceptable in the living room area? Would, say, game footage videos be OK, a la let's plays/trailer videos? (Because let's face it that's what Kirito would look up)

posted this in the wrong place first :I
does this mean that new characters won't be part of the event/won't be able to participate until next shuffle?
Re: QUESTIONS

He'll be on his bestest behavior.
no subject
The nooks are actually big enough for several people to lounge comfortably, with a wide entrance, so he won't have nearly as much trouble moving in and out.
And he will absolutely wake up in free pajamas. They fit him perfectly and everything!
no subject
How are the rooms it the hallway organized? By first name, by ship, something else? And which rooms are the ones closest to the kitchen?
no subject
So if he'd do well with those little ship rooms, he'll be all right! If he doesn't do so good with those... Then yeah, these rooms might be pretty darn small.

Re: QUESTIONS
1) Given that Nux has... one outfit... is he getting any new clothes (other than the sleeping clothes) or is he just going to keep wearing out those poor pants?
2) Does the shackle count as "clothes" -- i.e., will he still have it on when he wakes up?
no subject
1. By default, the names on the bedroom doors are whatever they're called in the Atroma database... which is usually their whole real names. Let us know if this would be a huge problem, and we can probably make an exception! But otherwise, his real name will be on display for everyone to see.
2. There are no consequences as far as anyone can tell! However, the whole space appears to get "reset" after the night cycle, which means the characters would wake up to find that all the pieces are gone, and all the cameras are right back to how they were before they were dismantled.
3. The media in the nooks are more along the lines of your typical popular media from Earth, or like the stuff you'd find in a video rental store... So there's unlikely to be any sort of let's play or trailer-like stuff around. The closest thing they might find to "game footage" is... a DVD of some famous sports game. :(
no subject
we still appreciate you it's okay :I
Though yes, any current pending apps that get accepted after this will have to wait until after they've been Shuffled... though they could also forward-date things if they'd like, since we all know they'll be going to the same place for a while. :)
Let me know if this doesn't answer your question!
no subject
It may also be worth noting that any stuff from around the Marsiva that she tries to put into her inventory will be "reset" during the night cycle--so she'll wake up to find it empty again, and all the Marsiva stuff exactly how it had been the day before.
no subject
One more question! If she tries to set the nameplate in her room on fire with her magic, will it burn/be damaged? or is it just immune.
no subject
2) Strangely, it seems like Atroma doesn't count the shackle as clothing. So he'll wake up in his pajamas with shackle still attached.

Also, piggybacking off the question about Toph's Earthbending, would Al's alchemy have any effect on the ship? He would know better than to, say, try and transmute a hole out into space, but would he be able to make the door bigger or fix broken exercise equipment or something?
no subject
Characters are also welcome to sit there and try to figure out the pattern of how the rooms were filled, once cabin fever starts setting in... But there's seriously no discernible organization.
no subject
It's also worth noting that anything he transmutes will be returned to normal the next morning, after everything mysteriously "resets" during the night cycle! So he can make the door bigger, but he'll have to do it over and over again... every morning...
no subject
Nameplates also reset during the night cycle like everything else, but there are no rules that say she can't just melt her nameplate over and over again every morning. :)
