What were you trying to pull? Saving me from those lizards and then sneaking off like that?

[One of her arms pushes against his face, probably by accident, causing him to make a mwuf noise. Maybe protesting won't help him here, but he's trying.]
I didn't want to-- [fuck, there goes his hat.] -- scare you, all right!?
no subject
Scare me!? That has to be the worse excuse I've ever heard! Why would I be scared!?
[ There is a list of reasons but none of them enter her head, not right now anyway. She's to wrapped up in keep him here, maybe a little desperate even. ]

[KNEE IN SIDE, KNEE IN SIDE, ABORT ABORT ABORT. He grunts and tries one last gambit to throw her off... but loses his balance spectacularly and goes facefirst into the dirt.
Not as planned.]

I'm not scared of you, idiot! I'd never─
[ Words get caught in her throat and it is all she can do but make a noise, equal part distressed and annoyed and just... just... ]

Rose...
[He says her name like someone says the word water when they're lost in a desert, like she's some unattainable, sacred dream slipping through his fingers. He considers telling her that this is not very appropriate for a young woman and a man, but...]
Don't cry. You can scream and be angry, even curse my name if you want, but don't cry over me. [Ugh.] ... I can't handle it.
no subject
Dammit it wasn't supposed to be like this, she wasn't suppose to be like this. ]
I'm not crying. [ Her voice betrays her, wavers where it should be steady, strong. ] I'm not. [ They well up behind her eyes, stinging, and she closes them tighter to will them away. ] I'd have to kick my own ass if I was.

I'm not going to disappear if you let go. [His voice is gentle and rough all at once, but also firm in the right places.] I've been living here for months. Stab me and I'll bleed.
I'm real.

First it's her hands fingers uncurling, releasing their grip on his jacket. They tremble as slightly as she shifts, inhaling sharply as she all but pushes herself off the the seraph and onto the dirt beside him. She brings her knees up to her chest watching him, waiting for Dezel to up and slip through her fingers like she's scared he will. Waits for reality to set back in and someone to smack her across the head for acting so stupid. ]

He turns toward her.]
Hey. [I have a name. He could almost smile a little at the memory, if she didn't look so forlorn. He pauses, never good with contact, but--
It's easy to just reach out and pull her into his arms. The easiest thing in the world. Like breathing. And only when he does it, does he realize he's stopped breathing himself.]
... There might still be monsters, [he adds lamely.]

Dezel.
[ Saying his name makes her remember to breathe, to let go of the breath she was holding, tension releasing from her limbs. This isn't a dream he's really here.
Rose laughs throwing her arm around him, hot tears stinging her eyes. ]
Like I care!
[ For the moment she doesn't, if they get surrounded by more monsters they can deal with that later just like they always do. ]

Despite his words, he doesn't let her go or even move them to safety. Not yet, anyway. He's content to hold her against him, as soft and warm as a summer breeze. For as long as she wants. She earned it.]
I'm--
[The word tumbles out before he can help himself, and then he doesn't know how to finish it. He swallows thickly.]
-- sorry.
