It's not a quarantine, it's more of a -

[ tadashi flounders slightly, here, before he rallies himself. taking a deep breath, he shakes his head and sits heavily on the edge of his bunk, watching her. ]

I have no idea what it is. But the ship you're on right now - the Marsiva? It's the one all new arrivals end up on before you're assigned a ship. There's no easy way to get on or off of it. [ or no way at all, as far as he's aware. and then, he'll repeat - because he feels like it bears repeating - ]

Assigned a ship? We don't even get a choice? I'm going to be on a ship with a cyclops and people who eat bees for snacks and not you! I'm not that lucky! Is there a complaint system? I'm--

[ this is a lot easier to deal with than focusing on the fact that her dead best friend is talking to her. honey lemon makes her escape from her eerily clean room, determined to find someone in management to speak to. ... is that how it worked??? the crew. ship. people. a person in charge.

but then he speaks again and her heart skips an uncomfortable beat. luckily the large windows that look out into the empty void of space serve as an appropriate distraction, giving her an out to not reply. ]

You can request a transfer. If there's room on mine and Hiro's ship... [ he trails off, laughing slightly. ] Yeah. 'Woah' sums it up pretty well.

[ his tone is soft, and if anything? he's a little relieved that she's got something to be distracted by. he removes his hat briefly, just long enough to scrub his fingers through his hair, before forcing himself to relax. ] It's a pretty nice view at first.

[periodics]

I'll make room! [ her temporary distraction is over, but she's still staring out into the void. this is amazing! there are too many conflicting emotions going on, some of which are bad, very bad, but at least the overwhelmingly positive ones can mask those for a while. ] I can be very persuasive. Chemical engineering doesn't usually go hand in hand with space exploration but I'm sure I can make it work.

[ there's a pause, mulling over new thoughts that appear the more she stares out into the nothingness. ] If we were to travel home, do you even know when it would be? Are we in the future or are we just light years away?

[ishere]

No idea. I don't even know if we're in the same universe, honestly. There are a ton of people from Earth, but none of them have ever heard of San Fransokyo, which...

[ it's one of the tech capitals of the world, and sounds as strange to him as hearing someone say they'd never heard of new york city or london would be. so he sort of shrugs, because - well, honestly, it's not something he's thought about a lot recently. ]

I've been here a little over a year, and there's been no sign of 'going home' just yet. It's a hard thing to test in this environment.

[periodics]

Wait-- [ there's a long, drawn out pause. ] They're picking people up in parallel universes too? That's... that's amazing!

[ she has to stop herself from practically bouncing up and down. ]

This is such a huge inconvenience but we're going to learn so much. It's not like they're going to keep us here forever. Maybe we can make this the most memorable field trip ever.
