The results are in...

Hello, Fleetlings! We will be posting event details for the Drift Fleet's newest Star System on Monday. In the meantime, we have some follow-up information regarding the mysterious devices uncovered in everyone's comms arrays, as well as a couple of other important odds and ends!

Say, what ever happened to Diamond, anyway?
A significant number of passengers were interested in removing the bugs that somehow got planted in their communications systems. In fact, as the drifting period between worlds comes to a close, clever passengers are finishing up the delicate device-removal process on their ships... which is enough to break down the scrambling field that they have been generating between them, apparently allowing a certain loving Host to say hello again!

You can view the network broadcast HERE! It would seem, if Diamond is to be trusted, that at least one of the purposes of these devices was to keep the beloved Drift Fleet Hosts from getting through to the stars of their program. Who would want to do a thing like that...?

And the excitement doesn't stop there. Passengers can continue to tinker with the devices through the next Star System (and beyond)! Though the self-sabotaged devices can't currently be reinstalled or powered-on again, perhaps with enough tinkering, their powers can be figured out and harnessed.

We will be giving updates as to what can be discovered or done with the devices at a later date, but if you have specific ideas as to what your characters might like to try and do with the devices and the technology derived therefrom, reply with the question/idea/whatever in the Questions comment below. We want to make sure that we don't miss anyone's ideas when it comes time to update, or miss anything that we haven't thought of yet that might need an update before then!

Pets! So many pets!
Just as explained by Diamond, a dock has mysteriously opened on the side of the Marsiva, allowing ships and shuttles to actually park there for the very first time! Passengers still cannot reach any other part of the ship, but it’s a landmark occasion nonetheless.

This new wing is the Marsiva Animal Care Center! Most of the space is taken up with a medical bay--there for lab personnel to administer manual care to animals (along with downloaded knowledge in their augments on how to do so), as well as medical robots that will delicately run through several medical procedures themselves, allowing any passenger to utilize them (things like spaying and neutering, first aid, claw-trimming, etc.). There is also a tiny fake park with benches and a water feature, dispensers offering plant and protein-based animal kibble, and chew toys of various sizes that seem to replenish themselves upon each visit. Whether accompanied by an animal or not, anyone is welcome to visit the park if they wish.

Since the last world saw a sudden influx of animals in all shapes and sizes, we would like to take this time to clarify our guidelines regarding having a pet or a creature companion attached to your character in the Drift Fleet! These will be added to the Game Information as soon as we can.
  • We would like to keep pets appearing in the Fleet as a special and rare occurrence. Pets from home will continue to appear in specific events only. To acquire a non-canon pet on a planet, the option must either be mentioned in the description of the planet, or a player must ask a mod in the Questions post of that planet to see if acquiring a pet is possible. As a general note, players are always welcome to leave us a message in the mod journal inbox about things they're interested in finding in the game--and we're happy to let you know what your options are!
  • While you are more than welcome to include pets and creatures in your threads, remember that your characters should be the real stars; we want to avoid players accidentally turning their pets into characters themselves. And make sure that when threading, please try to avoid tagging as only a pet if you can help it.
  • When the owner of a pet leaves the Drift Fleet, the pet will either disappear along with them, or can be inherited by another passenger. If no one claims the animal when someone drops, it is assumed that the animal disappears. The mods won't be keeping track of pets, so this is entirely up to the players to decide how that plays out.
And as a plot-specific note: Though this may not apply to all pets in the Fleet, most of the pets that appeared as gifts from the Hand-Holding planet will stay small and/or depowered as time goes on. Similar to the passengers of the Drift Fleet, they do not appear to age. (However, there may be exceptions, especially for pets that are small and harmless at any age. If someone really wants their pet to age for any particular reason, please contact us and we will discuss it.)

Any other big changes?
Lastly, we'd like to remind everyone that if characters made big or notable changes to their ships over the course of the last event (either through gifts from the tree or other creative means), head on over to the Ships & Crews page to let us know about it! There's a form you can fill out near the bottom of the page for any ship modifications you would like to have officially listed on your ship's main spreadsheet page.

If you've got questions about any of this, don't hesitate to ask us in the comments below! Players are also welcome to send a message to this mod journal at any time.
