A logical suggestion. [She feels fairly capable of handling herself on a dangerous planet solo, but humans aren't so well-equipped.

But she raises not just one but both eyebrows when he introduces himself, though she's not so shocked as to refuse the handshake (she's gotten used to that ritual).]

Enterprise. [She knows the names and faces of all the crew. James T. Kirk is not among them.] I don't recall you. What's your position on the ship?

[if this is more time travel nonsense..........]

[ Well, if he had any question on what specie she was, that clinched it. With that particular physiological structure and that singular statement, he would eat his shoe if she was not a Vulcan. ]

Nor do I recall you, but it wouldn't be the first time that's happened in the Fleet.

Let me try my introduction again - Captain James Tiberius Kirk, U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701 A.

[ He raised his brows at her, waiting. Was she was from the future or the past? So far he had only met those from the future in Beverly. ]

    [more time travel nonsense.

if she was in a less disciplined mood, she'd just sigh.]

    Commander T'Pol, Enterprise. NX-01.

Evidently, Atroma is not restricted by the timeline.

[ His eyebrows went up this time and his lips part for a second in the tiniest of "o"s. Blue eyes light up, a child being given a surprise sweet before dinner. ]

The NX-01? For real? Your ship is legend in my time! I'm from the year 2263.

And yeah, Atroma is fond of that. There's another member of the Enterprise here, but she's from even further ahead in the timeline than me. So that makes three generations of us all here at once.

[A legend? T'Pol isn't sure what to think of that. Her ship has been involved in a number of significant incidents, to be sure, but she's not sure that qualifies it for 'legendary' status. Although it would explain why there's a second one.

Referring to it as a 'generation' seems odd to her as well. That is, it's not a term she would use. But she can see how a human would view it that way.]

You're just over a century in my future. [She frowns, a tiny bit. What is it about people from the Enterprise, then? What is it about the ship itself?] It's strange that it prefers one ship in particular.

[ It was one of the first ships in the fleet, of course it was Legend. Kirk had run across another, the Franklin, not that long ago, but it's history was - well, it wasn't nearly so sweet as the NX-01. ]

Well, I wouldn't have said it preferred the Enterprise until now, but you may have a point. However, I don't know of another ship in the Fleet that's had its name passed down quite so many times either, so it could be coincidence.

It sounds like the name has become a tradition. [And she wants to ask questions about that--part of her thinks that damage to the timestream is already immaterial, but another part says to still be cautious.]

But we should focus on the matter at hand. Finding the source of this signal is more important than speculating about our own universe.

Yes, I suppose it has. But there's nothing wrong with keeping a name the embodies certain emotions for the Fleet and the Federation as a whole.

[ They were just going to have to throw out concerns about the time stream here, he had long ago decided. It was to much effort and trouble to avoid things as they were, and besides it was only three of them, all from very different times. And Kirk himself was from a wholly different time stream than Bev. Yes, a bit of a mess. He had to laugh at the other's words though, the sound fond. ]

God, I've missed that Vulcan sense of logic.
