Re: we keep crossing paths...
[ That should really be one of Star Fleet's recruitment slogans. They'd surely attract quite the new array of cadets. Also it would be fair warning. But that wasn't the point here. The point was that despite stumbling upon a wild Bones in the backwoods of nowhere and potentially being stalked by rodents of an unusual size, he was being blamed for the situation. Deadpan replaced shock, throwing his eyes heavenward for a moment. ]
Why do you assume this is any of my doing?
[ He might be huffing a little, but he's still walking towards the doctor with the full intention of hugging him til he went a touch blue. ]
no subject
Things he had not expected, really.] Uh... you all right?
no subject
[ Yes, Bones, he's hugging you. He's hugging you and you're going to like it, or not, he doesn't care, because he's not letting go just yet. It takes him a good few second and a slap on the back before he lets go, his smile a mix of joy, relief, and disappointment in one. ]
Yeah, yeah I'm great. I just - I wasn't expecting you here, in the Fleet.
How long have you been here?
[ And now it was his turn to glare. It wasn't on the same level as yours, Bones, but it's quite suitable even though it's tempered by the flush of that previous smile. ]
no subject
Few days? I dunno. I lost track a bit. [Don't glare at him. He's a better glarer than you'll ever be.] If I'd known you were around, I would have sent a message.
no subject
[ He splutters. Yes, actually sputters. ]
Three days?! Three days and you don't check the rosters or even make a note on the network?
[ He reached out and smacked his shoulder. ]
That's bad form, doc.
[ He sighed, but it turned into a warm, genuine Kirk smile. ]
But I'm glad you're here. I actually started missing you.
no subject
How was I supposed to know you were around? [Rosters. Yes, he knows. Shut up.] I was tryin' to figure out what the hell was going on.
[Because he was supposed to be at Yorktown, finally able to take a goddamn breath after Altamid so he's just this side of paranoid about it all, okay? Okay.]
Don't say that. You missing me means things are worse than I wanna think about.
no subject
So are the rest of us, mostly. They say we're on a reality show, but I think that's a bunch of bullshit myself.
[ Opinion seemed to be split either way, but he definitely thought this was some sort of illegal and highly unethical experiment. ]
Of course I'd miss you. I haven't heard you growl at me in six months. It's weird not having you demand I come in for a physical every other week, or threaten me with a hypo. It's the little things, Bones.
no subject
Six months. [Time shenanigans. Those are the worst.] Ah, hell. [How much hate does he have for Time Issues? It's written all over his face.]
no subject
More or less. And then I went to sleep for two weeks and spent three years back on the Enterprise and the -
[ He paused and looked at him, as if trying to gauge his age and experiences through his looks alone. ]
What's the last thing you remember before waking up on the Marsiva?
no subject
Judging by the look on McCoy's face, none of that is clearing anything up, so while Jim looks for whatever clues might be in his expression, McCoy stares right back.]
I landed [read: wrecked again] that deathtrap I was flying in Yorktown.
[He's really hoping that's familiar to Jim. Really hoping.]
no subject
His shoulders relax visibly when the other mentions that, letting out a relieved laugh. ]
Last thing I remembered before waking up was a few days after that birthday party you threw me in Yorktown - after you landed the deathtrap.
no subject
Good to know I was able pull that together. Getting stranded on that damn planet put a damper in those plans.
[Yeah, Mr. Sensitive over here had been planning that get-together before even setting eyes on Yorktown.]
no subject
[ Get ready for some fun, then, Bones, because there's another Fleet member here - a future Fleet member. Thankfully it wasn't all that difficult to avoid talking about the Fleet and thus the future. For now, though, Kirk stepped in again and clasped Bones' arm in a more masculine hello and nodded his head up the path. ]
Come on, I can fill you in on what's been happening here since I arrived and introduce you to my friends. Oh, and to my crew. You must have gotten a ship assignment if you're off the Marsiva.
And if you have questions I'll try to answer, but fair warning - essentially no one has the answers to the questions you are likely going to ask.
no subject
He nods slowly, worrying at his lip for a second before answering.] 'I don't know' seems to be a recurring theme around here.
no subject
[ He nodded, clearly disliking admitting that. But it was the truth, aggravating as it was, and Bones was the last person he'd lie to about something like that. He was sure Bones would share his frustration, probably have better words to describe it too. ]
Yeah and not in the way we like it back home.
[ He sighed and patted Bones again, as if still trying to assure himself that the man was actually here. ]
We can go to Crowleys bar up on the Fleet. He's got the good stuff, and then I'll give you the grand tour. Hint: most of the fun stuff is on the Iskaulit.
no subject
Thank God, there's a bar. I might survive this thing.
no subject
Come on Bones, you must be in it for more than the opportunity to be as far away from your ex as possible.
[ He thinks you like the challenge and the discovery and making the other biologists and medics back on Earth pull their hair out. ]
We've all been brought here against our wills and are likely being experimented on and are definitely spied upon 24/7. Of course there's a bar, Bones.
no subject
[He's a liar, but Jim already knows that.]
No recourse but drinking, huh?
