    dog

[ The new planet is... Interesting, but not the most dangerous she's been on. The magic sings to her but she ignores it for the most part, doing what she can to gather things up and make sure she has the supplies she needs for the next time they're adrift. Everything would go as easily as that if she didn't come across an achingly familiar dog, her eyes widening as she stares down at it.

Stepping away from the foot stall, Hermione pauses for a moment before she shakes her head. Grabbing some cooked food, she pays for it quickly before chasing after the dog - conscious that she might be running after a stray animal but not being entirely prepared to not trust her gut feeling. ]

    ... Padfoot?

[He heard and smelled things better this way, could tell when someone was approaching or just passing by, it was safer and far easier.

The dog was trotting along at an easy gait...at least until the breeze changed and a familiar smell drifted to him. There were too many other smells to pinpoint the one, but he slowed and stopped to look around.

His name finally drew his attention to the source of the smell. Whatever approximation of dog-shock likely crossed his features, but then his tail was going a mile a minute and his ears flattened to his skull as he rushed to meet her.]

[ As soon as she realises that Padfoot was exactly who she thought he was - there's no mistaking the way he was bolting towards her, and there's no way a stray dog would be this trusting or excited - Hermione's face lights up. She doesn't even consider how vastly different she probably looks from the last time Sirius might have seen her (a teen and afraid and not entirely sure what she was doing with herself, trying to protect Harry from Death Eaters and feeling like an idiot compared to the older, scarred woman she was now).

All she can think about is seeing her friend again.

Bending down, she reaches out for him - and as soon as he's close she's pressing her hands against his fur, stroking over his head with all the gentleness and tenderness she can muster, her face breaking into a wider smile. ]

Is it really you, Sir- Padfoot?

[ It's not as if he has to be afraid about his identity here, but... ]

[He gives a small huff of a woof but then does his best to cover her face in wet kisses.

He shouldn't be so relieved to hear her stick to his nickname, but it rushed through him all the same. They should talk, he should turn back and accept the slight discomfort of being himself over the dog in favor of trading what information they can. Is this his Hermione who'd done her best to understand and accept him without fully knowing everything and made herself into a friend he'd valued? Or was this a different Hermione, perhaps one who knew a different him or a different reality altogether? There was no way of knowing until they could actually talk.

He pulled away from her after a moment and gently pulled on her clothes with his teeth to indicate the direction they should go: an alley not too far off the main square.]

[ It's so easy to laugh even as her nose wrinkles at the dog kisses on her face, because it feels sharply like coming home again. It's like going back in time years and years and she wants to embrace the moment, basking in it before she breathes out and shifts, tilting her head up.

Right, privacy so he can transform. People might be concerned if a man appeared out of a dog.

Making sure to pass the food on before she does anything else, Hermione picks herself up and heads towards the alley, stepping through and casting a quick spell to make sure no one can overhear them. It's then that she turns back to the dog, expression soft and gentle. ]

Alright. It's safe to come back.
