For humans? Yes. Cool powers are an alien-only thing.

[He doesn't blame the boy for being paranoid. It's a good thing in small amounts, to be careful in a new place with strange people. So he offers his best big brother smile in a comforting way, and his metal hand to shake.]

anyway, handshaking! he can do it. and also lift his brows, because hey there, that ain't skin. all thoughts of question-answering are momentarily on hold.]

Whoa, you have a metal arm?

That they truly are.

[That's fine, Shiro is a bit biased too. He tenses when Billy asks about the arm, but he keeps his poker face, nodding at the question.]

Aliens have impressive technology too. This isn't your first experience in space, then?

Yeah. far from it- I spent the better part of a year skipping through space and multiple dimensions. We saw some weird stuff.

[So it's from aliens, huh? That's pretty cool.

Oh, right, introductions.]

I'm Billy- and yeah, I'm pretty new. Nice to meet you.

Skipping through space and seeing weird stuff go hand in hand, I've discovered.

[And he doesn't just mean the fleet. Now, Billy is pretty common name. Very common. But this boy is flying around while glowing, comes from a world with humans with powers, has jumped dimensions... He has to ask.]

It's nice to meet you too, Billy. ...as in, Billy from Kate's world Billy, by any chance?

[His brow quirks, a clear sign that he's right on the mark.]

Aha, I'm famous. You know Kate?

[Jealousy is instantly forgotten now. He's finally getting to meet the guy!]

You kinda are. I've heard a lot about you. [He nods.] We co-captain the Blameless together. She's a good friend.

[...yeah, that's what kids call it these days or something.]

Was that, like, an assigned role? Or did you guys team up?

A captain is usually assigned to each ship by Atroma, we believe randomly. [He has not trouble with explaining this! No big deal, right? RIGHT? Helping the newbie to understand.] She was chosen, and she ask me to help.

[So yeah, team up. Billy is a smart boy.]

[ohoHO. so it is significant. Interesting, indeed. It usually takes a special sort to lead efficiently with Kate. Nothing against her, she's just that kind of independent person. When she and Eli did co-lead stuff they clashed frequently.]

You must be pretty reliable for her to go and do that. Congrats.

[padadin]

[So maybe, just maybe, that makes him smile like a goof. Again, no big deal. Ahem.]

I lead my own team of defenders of the universe at home. A reliable resume, if you will. [But hey, that means this is a good first impression with Kate's bestie, right?] You should visit us often at the Blameless, I know Kate has missed you.

[the plot thickens]

Defenders of the universe? Like some kind of heroic team?

[Guardians of the Galaxy-style!?]

[Nodding.] That's a fair description. Our universe is being ruled by an evil empire formed by an alien race called Galra, and we're fighting them.

[selfhelp]

Galra... can't say I've heard of them, but running around in space taught me that there's plenty of aliens who never made it as far as Earth, so who knows. That's pretty cool, though! No wonder you and Kate get along.

[He's assuming she told him about the heroic stuff, considering he guessed Billy's identity based on the powers stuff.]

[padadin]

My Earth doesn't know about the existence of aliens yet, so I think yours still wins this one. [And honestly, not hearing about the Galra is a good thing, Billy.

And that last comment! That's a compliment for him, and he smiles like the goof he can be.] Thanks. She's easy to get along with, but you already know that.

[He could probably say likewise about the Skrulls, the Kree, Thanos, Galactus, all the other alien villains who try to take over the world/galaxies... short version is that evil spacemen suck.]

Yeah, I did, but it doesn't hurt to show you feel the same way.
