Matthew. [Leans companionably into her before leaning back out, smiling.] Is the Vanquish lacking in your own brand of creature comforts?

Oh, I wouldn't say that. More like... [She pauses, making a thoughtful sound, mostly just a beat in the conversation, buying her time as she considers how to respond. Natasha doesn't like to questions much.] We're never one place all that long. Have to get out while we have the chance, and stock up when we have the chance.

Otherwise, risk running out of coffee or food that isn't protein gel. Things like that.
    echovocation: (Heaven knows)

Now that's a necessity. [The coffee, that is.] Natasha, do you mind if I ask you something about your time here? [Because you've been very neatly substituting general information for personal, so maybe a more pointed approach is better.]

[No one wants to face Black Widow when she hasn't had her coffee.]

Sure. I don't know how good my answer will be, but you can ask.

[There's a difference between agreeing to let someone ask a question and agreeing to answer it.]
echovocation: (And I guess it was enough for me)

    [personal profile] echovocation 2017-09-10 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. [It's not like it's an interrogation, after all. He does still lower his voice a little bit, just in case that makes her more comfortable with the questioning.] In all your time with this... [he gestures,] setup, the fleet, have you ever known anybody to stay behind when the ships moved on?

No. [That's actually an easy one, and not too personal.] Not as far as I know, at least. The augments, they bring people back when it's time to move on.
    echovocation: (unless they're madame gao)

'Bring people back,' what do you mean? [He doesn't like the sound of that. Granted, he was already pretty pissed about this thing being here and is trying not to think about it anyway, but if-] It compels people to return? Like mind control?

I mean if you get out of range of the fleet, you get teleported back. I figure it's the augment that lets them know where to find you.

[Could be she's making assumptions, but also seems a safe one to make.]

Or so I here. I wouldn't rule out mind control either, though. That's happened before too, under different circumstances.
    echovocation: (I think there's something)

    [personal profile] echovocation 2017-09-11 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't sound very pleasant. [Nice. Well, he already knew this was going to be in the vicinity of a shitstorm, so it's not much of a shock to know they're actually right in the eye of it.] This- teleportation, I imagine it's similar to how we're moved from the Marvisa once the processing period is over?

Pretty much the same, yeah. Same thing happens if someone tries to pilot one of the shuttles away from the main fleet. You get too far away, they bring you back.

[Unsurprisingly, Natasha isn't a fan. It's subtle, but there's a distinguishable snag in her voice, just a little more smokey and whiskey than normal.]
echovocation: (You've gotta give for what you take)

    [personal profile] echovocation 2017-09-12 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well. I suppose that's not any different from what I expected. [Trying to keep this light, as light as it can get.] Imprisonment with the illusion of freedom.

[Sigh. What an inconvenience. Who can he punch to fix this, or maybe just to feel better.] Any luck on those sheets?

The illusion is pretty shoddy, all things considered. Maybe a little like house arrest?

[House arrest would be so much easier to get out of, though. A tracking ankle band? Natasha can handle that.

She redirects them a little then, going into a store? Somewhere that smells of linen and detergent.]

Home goods store. I can't swear they'll have silk, but it's worth checking out.
