Don't sweat it. I'm mostly happy you told me about the pool. Carl.

I used to go swimming all of the time but it's been a while.

I can't say I've been to the pool since we got it. It's down this way.

[ He nods his head down the hall, leading Sora toward the pool. ]

[Sora follows easily.]

Then I guess we both better make the most of it.

Sounds about right, yeah.

[ Carl opens the door to the pool, letting Sora go in first. It's a little bigger than he thought it was going to be. ]

Wow!

This is pretty cool. [He really is going to have to find some kind of swim trunks or something soon. Right now, he goes over to the edge of the pool and starts to take off his shoes.]

It's really going to help keep active too.

There's plenty of that around here.

[ Carl chooses a spot at the pool's edge and takes off his shoes and socks and rolls up his jeans. The water is cool, but not freezing, which is nice. ]

So, what kinds of worlds have you visited?

Oh all kinds. There have been desert worlds, spooky worlds, an underwater world.

I've met a lot of really cool people. People I'm happy to call friends.

Like you. [Yeah, you're cool. And a friend now. Deal with it.]

[ UM. Well this isn't usually how things go. Carl looks around awkwardly.

I mean, you helped me out even though I just arrived. We started out strangers until you made the choice to reach out and help me. You deserve some credit for that, right?

The fleet is a community, if people didn't reach out, what would we be?

To start with, you'd have a lot more confused people around.

And I wouldn't know where this awesome pool is! Both of those things sound terrible.

[He grins at the admission.] It's not too hard to be with this kind of stuff. You just have to listen to what your heart tells you.

Listen to my heart, huh? [ It's something his mom has told him before, but sometimes it's hard to follow. ]

That's right. It's always been really easy for me to do, but I know others sometimes have trouble hearing what it says. That's why you need good friends around to guide you when you're lost.

I have plenty of family, but friends are something I don't have a lot of.

[ Which he doesn't really mind.. So long as he has family, he can survive. The last time he tried to befriend someone around his age, they ended up shooting him, so... ]
