[Wow, he can't recall ever seeing Kravitz that happy to see him, but he won't discourage it. They're both nabbed from home and he bets it's both nice to see a familiar face and doubly nice that it's a face as beautiful as his.

Taako saunters closer, shrugging as he goes.]

Just a little while ago. Thought I'd blow off some steam by having some fun. Nothing here had tried to eat, burn, freeze me in time, or crystalize me yet, so it's been pretty boring.

Yes of course - not having something actively trying to kill you is boring. I see.

[ A little exasperating, but mostly amusing, if his tone is any indication~ ... But then, he's serious. ]

Not that it makes this situation any less dangerous. The silence out here is rather... unnerving. I don't like it.

[ The Astral Plane can be its own particular kind of quiet. This place? Feels like a sterile kind of quiet. ]

I mean, that's how we met, isn't it?

[Could anything be more exciting than that? Almost dying is one hell of an adrenaline rush, even if Taako really fucking hates it when he's close to actually almost dying.

Taako glances around the empty ship, clicking his tongue against his teeth as the quiet settles back in. When he was burning through spells it was loud and busy, but now? Yeah, it's eerie.]

Probably 'cause there's hardly anyone here. No crew, nothing. I'd say it's like a tomb, but I've looted those, so it seems inappropriate.

Oh trust me, I'll never forget it.

[ He chuckles. Taako's, ah, habits and his particularly dangerous line of work might have worried him a little at first, but he very quickly realized that either through his incredible skills or just pure fucking luck -- or both, most likely -- Taako would always be just fine.

But this place is one big question mark, and so much unknown puts him on edge, admittely. ]

I'd almost rather be in tomb than here. I don't suppose you have any crazy ideas on how to get out of here? You've been on something like this before, right?

[ Says the man apparently from just a little bit into the future, after some key voidfish craziness happens. Whoops? ]

[Taako chuckles at that. Of course the Grim Reaper would prefer a tomb. He probably doesn't think anything of it, even if they generally give most people the heebies.

But as for getting out of here?]

Living on a moon base isn't quite the same thing as being on a space ship, y'know. This is all crazy new to me, too.

But I tried blasting the doors to the cockpit open and nothing. Magic doesn't seem to be doing anything to this place, weirdly enough.

[ Hmm. He looks confused for a second, because he could have sworn... Oh well, probably not as important at the moment. ]

I was afraid of that. I can't call my scythe to me, and trying to open any kind of rift doesn't work. These people clearly know what they're doing. [ Beat. ] In some ways.

[That was odd. But then again, maybe Kravitz just mistook Taako's ride in Lucas' lab as kind of being like a space ship. They had been doing a pretty janky controlled dive to the planet through space after all.

The more important part is how Kravitz can't access his scythe or his power.]

Isn't that kind of integral to the whole "grim reaper" bit? Do you feel any sort of block or is it just missing?

I mean, yes, it's... pretty integral. You know. Part of the whole deal. And yet, this is about as far as I can get.

[ Aaand there's the change! His cloak appears, his face turns all skeletal. At least that's still the same. But when he holds out his hand, no weapon appears. ]

I don't know about a block, it just seems gone, which... That can't be right.

[Yeah he still isn't used to that. Kravitz is one hell of a handsome man, but as a skeleton? 6/10. Maybe 7 in the looks department. 10/10 on the "Of right, this is terrifying" scale.

Taako frowns and tries to do a Detect Magic to see if the missing scythe is anywhere nearby, but to no avail. It's weird, like Kravitz says. It's just gone.]

Huh, no lie. It's like something stole it from you, but that shouldn't be possible. Because I would have taken that shit so fast if it were. No offense but it's a pretty bitchin' weapon.

[ He chuckles. ] You're not wrong. I'll take it as a compliment.

[ Poof! Back to normal, and the cloak goes away. ]

Thanks for trying. ... If we ever do find it, maybe I'll let you hold it.

[ Maybe. If you don't hurt yourself. ]

[Taako's eyes light up like they have never done before and he holds a pinky finger out.]

Swear to it.

[Because he is so going to run the halls of whatever planet or ship that have on Garyl brandishing that thing AND HE NEEDS THIS IN HIS LIFE.]

[ ... And of course he can't say no to that, even if he wanted to. He hooks his pinky around Taako's and nods. ]

All right, sure, I swear. ... Though now I'm both curious and concerned about what you're thinking.

[Still as clammy as the first time he touched Kravitz's hand. It sends a shiver down his spine but after a moment to compose himself, he squeezes their fingers together and let's go. A deal with Death and not the first one either.]

You don't need to concern yourself with the details. Just remember you promised and I get to hold it whenever you get it back.

[Hold it and terrify some people for sure. ]

[ He does notice that moment's pause -- between that, and the unexpected answer earlier, Kravitz is starting to feel like something's a little bit... off. Not wrong, this is still Taako and they are currently in a very strange situation, so maybe that's all it is? Still, there's some sort of feeling he just can't shake... And not really sure what to do about it, he just files the suspicion away for later. ]

You know, I probably should have specified when and for how long before swearing to it, but oh well, it's done now. [ He grins - he's joking, really. ] I guess just try not to actually scare anyone to death with it.

[Taako shrugs non-committally because there's no way he's making that promise. He can't control if someone dies of fright when he's galloping down the halls on Garyl wreathed in illusory flames and using Disguise Self to look like a punk rock Ghost Rider.

Truly, not under his control.]

Too late now, Krav. You already pinky swore and that's basically unbreakable.

[ Yeah sure absolutely not at all under Taako's control, not one bit. Of course.

He chuckles. ] I've made plenty of deals lately, I know how it goes. Besides, you know me - man of my word, and all that.

I'll just have to see how it all plays out then.

[He...sort of knows? Taako raises an eyebrow, but let's it go. If Kravitz want a man of his word, then Taako & Co. would be screwed considering how many times they'd just died. ]

Speaking of - we still got that deal with me and the occasional death thing going, right? I know we're not exactly on our Plane, but from what I've heard, death is a little wonky here, too.

[ ... Okay, that's... Kravitz looks a little puzzled. ]

I've heard about death here too, can't say I'm fond of the scheme they have going-- but... Taako, do we even need that deal? I mean, after all that's happened, circumstances are pretty different now.

[ But between this, and the other, smaller inconsistencies, something really isn't adding up. And it's starting to worry him. ]

[All that's happened? What's happened? The ol' Chug and Squeeze was a lot of fun, sure, but he didn't think he'd get out of a deal just made oh.... Less than a week ago?

Taako blinks and stares for a moment. This can't be a trick, right? Kravitz didn't strike him as the sort to resort to petty tricks. On Merle? Sure. On Taako? Nah.]

I mean if your Queen wants to forgo it all, cool. I can do with a free pass. I'm sure there's a lot more potential for unexpected dying in my future considering this line of work.

[ Well, yeah, she's forgoing all of it because they kind of saved the world. A bunch of worlds. All kinds of planes. Everything. But Kravitz can't even really find the presence to say that much, he's just... confused. ]

Right. ... Taako, what's the last thing you remember happening, back on our plane?

[That's a weird question. His eyebrow arches a little more and Taako inspects his fingernails as he thinks back.]

Major event? You and me. Non-major?

I totally pwned that Deals Warlock into trading a badass sword for a piece of crap knick-knacks.

...why?

[ Even if "you and me" might be kinda open to interpretation... yeah, no, he heard about that thing with the Deals Warlock and that... uh...

He hesitates before he answers. ]

Because, well, that was... a while ago.

[ Is this... some kind of amnesia thing? Or a time thing? Weirder things have happened, to be sure, but still. ]

[Kravitz's hesitance and his tone are weird. It's like he's bewildered at how Taako thinks time has passed. Sure, time might be different for an immortal grim reaper, but he didn't think it would be this different.]

Well yeah, I've been here since then, but it hasn't been that long. Oh, and I was totally going to call you, by the way, don't think I wasn't. But this whole thing happened and it's hard to get reception in a different universe.

No, I know-- it's... I mean, you-- uh, I guess did. You did call. Because it's been months.

[ Wow, that came out a mess. ]

What I'm trying to say is that the last thing I remember happened months after all of that.

Taako had seen the Chalice get destroyed, and besides that wasn't how it worked. It rewrote history, not stopped people from living it. Sure, June or Jane or whatever had trapped Refuge in a bubble, but that didn't... He'd escaped. He'd seen the relic destroyed.

There was no way he was trapped in a bubble because he was here, too.]
