Winter Test Drive


THE WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
(Or Summer Test Drive for you Southern Hemisphere folks!)


Got someone you want to try out before you app? Well this is the post for it! Feel free to use anything that fits in the setting of Drift Fleet! Want to play bumper shuttles? Want to go wild in a med bay? Play around with the current plot? Have at it!

Threads from the Test-Drive may be made game "canon" but DO NOT count toward AC!

FOR NEW PLAYERS: You DO NOT NEED an invite to participate in the TEST DRIVE! If you decide to APP into the game, ONLY THEN will you need an invite from a current player!

IMPORTANT!!! Per this post, Player Invites are not needed to app to Drift Fleet until the conclusion of the Calibrations plot.

    [Alfred can't help but tilt his head at the young man's approach. He's seen quite a lot in his time in Gotham and his services with the war, so the uniform wasn't something that surprised him. He was more curious to know what the story was behind it. There was always a story.

    Only most masked men he came across proved to be thieves or folk not right in the mind. The name given to him was one he didn't recognize.]

    Does one often hide behind a mask here, Red Robin? I understand that we are both new here, but I would prefer to speak to the young man behind the mask.

    However, since you introduced yourself and it would be terribly rude of myself not to do the same.... I'm Alfred Pennyworth.

    [He replied as he in turn took the other's hand and shook it with a firm grip.]

    [The handshake goes slack in surprise as the name is spoken. It's the wrong face, body and accent but the manner of speaking and demeanour is just right. It isn't his Alfred but it is Alfred. He doesn't know what to do with this information. He obviously doesn't recognise Red Robin.]

    I-um- sorry-sorry about the mask, it's a long-ingrained habit to hide my identity. I'm told it's not necessary here but I'm not yet ready to let it go. Being kidnapped by aliens for entertainment doesn't exactly put me at ease.

    It's-It's nice to meet you Mr Pennyworth. Can I ask what you do? Where you're from?

    [Alfred sensed the surprise easily enough form Red Robin's slackened grip. He offered a friendly smile in an attempt to offer support.]

    Please, Alfred will do. Such formality isn't necessary right now. Unless this is some sort of job interview you are posing with all the questions you have?

    [He spoke in a teasing manner, meaning to lighten the serious mood that had settled around the conversation. He did have a few questions of his own to ask later, but chose to wait to ask them. ]

    I have a long line of work. My current job is looking after young Master Wayne after his parents having past away. Where we are currently staying at the Wayne Manner in Gotham City. Prior to this I worked for the British Special Air Service.

    Let's go get some coffee and discuss this some more there instead of chit chatting in the corridor? I believe there is a little place near by where we can get some.

    [He was glad to see the young man relaxing and more at ease.]

    He's in his late teens, so not necessarily young. I would say close to your age? Old habits die hard. I feel that he is trying hard to grow up too fast and I often wish he would try to relax and be act like a regular teenager.

    [He merely shook his head as he proceeded to lead Robin toward the place he had in mind.]

    Do you know Master Wayne? You seem very keen to know about him.

    Oh yes, of course. Don't want to loiter.

    [Tim will start walking and talking, following. Thoughts much more interested in chitchat rather than coffee surprisingly. A young Bruce before Batman. Would he even become Batman in that universe? How much should he say? He could ruin a timeline. He could try and prevent so many things.]

    Ah, well we're not from the same universe I'm afraid so I don't know your version of Bruce. However, I do know the Bruce Wayne from my universe.

    [Alfred was far from surprised by the news. He had some kind of suspicion they were connected. Only he didn't expect it to be a different time line. He only became aware that such a thing was possible when he arrived in the Fleet. The problem is revealing alot of information. He assumed that Robin felt the same way.]

    I have to say I'm not surprised by this news. I was made aware that this could be a possibility when I arrived here. You'll have to forgive me if I'm more restrictive of my responses. They say that ignorance can be a bless.

    I can only imagine what the Bruce you know would be like and hope he still has the same qualities that the one I know carries.

    Well, he was still largely raised by our Alfred so I can only imagine that you'd be just as proud of him- and exasperated but his actions as our Alfred.

    And I can understand wanting to be careful with your responses, after all, I am the one wearing the mask here.

    I suppose in due time I'll get to see the face behind the mask?

    [He wasn't pressuring the kid to take it off understanding that it was fairly important to him. He only hoped in time he would earn that trust. Especially since he interacted with a variation of himself. That idea was a little hard accept, but for now he'll go with it.]

    Ahh perhaps, I don't want to make any promises one way or the other, to be frank.

    [There's an instant perk up as Alfred mentions coffee and then a look of suspicion.]

    If I choose coffee over tea am I going to get a lecture about how coffee is bad for a growing body?
