Post-human? I'm called a mutant.

My name's Kitty though. Shadowcat if you want to play with codenames, but Kitty's fine. [Her shake is solid too which is helpful considering the alternative when it comes to her.]

Post-human, it's a collective term for all of us with powers, whatever the source of them. Some are seedlings, some are millenial children, alien activity, human experimentation...

Post-human covers everything neatly.

Kitty, then. I'd use a civilian name, but I've been Apollo all my days. I sort of got used to it.

Apollo works fine. There've always been some people it just felt more natural to call by their codenames anyway.

And I'm not sure what seedlings or millenial children are, but the last two are easy enough to follow. Do any of them just get born with the DNA for activating powers later? Maybe at puberty?

Well, it's the name my husb- ex-husband used when we got married, so it's a good enough name for me.

Oh, um, yes? There are Kherans, and... probably others, I honestly don't remember, I tend to let Angie and Jack handle that side of things, I'm just around for the good looks and explosive capability, y'know?

[He gives her another bright smile.]

Millenials are born. Just... born with super powers. My little girl is a millenial child, Jenny.

[He reaches for his pocket, pulling out a photo wallet. You better stop him now unless you want to be regaled with stories about his little girl.]

[She catches that slip and sh glances away, not knowing what to say. She just met him so she says nothing.] Explosive capabilities can come in handy.

[The man lost his husband and is now separated—she assumes—from his daughter. If he wants to show her a picture, she'll let him. He seems like he's handling it well though. Bright smiles and all.] She has powers already?

[The separation is a bit raw still. But the photo wallet comes out, the topmost picture showing a little girl of about six, with distinctly asian features and a big grin. She's wearing a teeshirt with the union jack on it.]

Yeah... that's my girl, Jenny Q. She's nearly seven now. She's mastering flying, I'm so proud of her. She's not allowed to start teleporting until she can manage half an hour of sustained flight. I don't want her pushing herself too hard and fast.

She's cute. Must be even harder to run after a kid who can fly, but I guess it helps that you can too.

She's cute as a button and she knows it.

[He's one of those parents. Doting. Besotted. Prone to rambling.]

Oh, she can't fly anywhere near as fast as I can. Thankfully. She's a good girl, though, usually answers as soon as she's called. She's had to live too dangerous a life for such a young girl, she's learned to always do as she's told because it might be a real emergency.

Sure, until you need a babysitter. Unless there are lots of flying babysitters back home. [Which, maybe there are. What does she know?]

Is that why you're an ex-superhero? To protect her?

We don't often deploy the whole team. And when we do, usually she stays with Midnighter, since any time the whole team is involved, it usually means something is after Jenny.

I wouldn't want to try and go through Midnighter to get our girl.

Does he have the power of midnight? Which I would assume is darkness, summoning pizza, and watching questionable television.

[Apollo's smile doesn't quite make it bright and sunny this time.]

No, he's got several of the most advanced tactical nanocomputers in existence in his head. He can look at someone and he knows what they can do, how they can do it and every possible way to take them down.

[That's a shame because that was quality joking right there.]

Also impressive. [But now she just wants pizza which isn't possible.] Sounds like things are in good hands. [In as much as any of that is comforting when you're separated from someone you love or want to protect.]

[Apollo visibly bites back whatever he was about to say , takes a slow breath and then actually smiles.]

Whatever else, he'd tear apart the planet to protect Jenny.

[She notices all of that and well...] Have we been talking about the ex-husband?

[He nods, looking slightly embarrassed.]

Sorry. I'm still adjusting to him not, well... us not being together. We've been together in one way or another since the day we first woke up.

No, I'm sorry for the flippant. I get it. Those kinds of things are hard. Too hard.

No, it's fine, you weren't to know. I guess I'm sort of used to everyone in my world knowing us. "World's Finest Couple" and all that jazz. Turns out, being famous superheroes and coming out draws attention.

Sounds as if you were well liked at least. That's kind of hard to picture. [Kitty, repeat that back to yourself.]

I mean, the masses liking people with powers. You seem likable.

[He gives her a sad smile.]

Not quite the same in your world, huh?

We're... loved. Hated. Depends on the day. On the channel. On the playground.

My world was a little bit broken. [This is a growing moment, keeping it light, not going right for the most grimdark thing she could say.] Sounds like yours has a better mix.

It's a pretty good place, overall. Probably better now that Jack's not in charge. I love the guy, but I really don't know that he's cut out for presidency.

You knew the president? Wait, did your team have a president or is this the president of the United States?

... Jack took over as President of the US. It wasn't a great idea.

[He rubs a hand through his hair, then combs the silver strands with his fingers.]

I don't really do the thinking for the team. Leave that to others who are better at it. But overthrowing a corrupt government doesn't actually always fix things.

[It's making her think of Jack Harkness every time he says it and even with more information it still feels like it fits somehow.]

No, I imagine it's more like a beginning than the end at that point. [She hasn't heard that much from Kurt yet about their world post-Apocalypse, but it's hard to imagine anything being easy from there.]
