I had my team back home too. The X-Men. I'm guessing you've never heard of us.

No. Like I said. There aren't many superheroes around.

[ He still doesn't count himself as one. Not yet. ]

That's a big word. I realize I used it first, but The Vision has a "the" in his name and a cape. It felt appropriate there.

[anewhope]

[ He nods. ]

To be honest . . . I'm not even sure I'm using it correctly.

I don't know if there is actually a right way. I just know when I hear it I think about the people I didn't get to in time, and I don't feel so super or heroic.

...And that was a lot of realness to drop on a guy I just met who pretends not to break masks on purpose.

[The kills weigh on her too. There wasn't a lot of choice. The X-Men didn't have the resources to hold other mutants for an indefinite amount of time. No one did. Civilization had collapsed. There weren't laws or institutions anymore. To save innocent lives they took the lives of the attackers.]

Then what were you doing?

I just . . . don't know my own strength?

[ He's so good at secret identities, really. ]

So you were testing it?

Because you're the vigilante from Metropolis? [It's a bit of a leap, but sometimes you just throw a theory out there and see how people react to it and go from there.]

[ He sighs. Why was he so bad at this? ]

Not until you asked that. [Smiling.] Are your powers working differently here? [Since you don't know your strength and all.]

[anewhope]

I get my powers from the sun. They're a little weaker than what I'm used to.

[ And he's used to living in a world made of cardboard. Always restraining himself, always making sure he's applying the right amount of pressure. ]

Yeah? You don't have an adorable blond cousin do you? [Because the sun part is familiar, but it could apply to lots of people. A couple of Apocalypse's recruits had powers dependent on the sun too.]

[anewhope]

[ A cousin? ]

I'm the only one left from my planet.

I'm sorry. [That sound extremely lonely.]

[anewhope]

[ He shakes his head. He can't accept that kind of sentiment. ]

It had to be that way.

[She's not sure what to make of that statement. Is it just her or does it sound slightly suspicious?] Why?

But when you try to recreate the past, you leave no space for the future.

I'm pretty sure you're speaking in riddle instead of English. But I assume you're saying you're moving on, so okay.

No more than a few weeks.

[ A few weeks as Metropolis picks itself up the ground, while the army stews and decides whether he should be condemned or upheld. A few weeks to hold his breath and see if his father's prophecy would come true. ]
