I know you will. [and he means it, he knows she'll tell him. And it makes his heart skip, knowing she wants to see him as much as she wants to see her. He may have fallen for her the moment they met, but she was one of his first real friends, too. Someone who understood, truly understood how difficult it was to be what they were in a world that didn't know they existed. He wants to preserve that the most, and if more comes of it in the end, then so be it. He just wants Raven in in his life again.
He leans back against the wall behind him, slumping into a more comfortable position]
Is there . . . anything else you want to know? [he asks after a moment. Like he's remembering that yeah, he should be explaining the important things she needs to know] I know you've - heard a lot already, but -

Maybe I'll shout it at everyone so they know not to get in my way. [ She can imagine it, too, barrelling through people so she can make her way over to Hank and talk to him properly. Maybe, eventually, she'll be able to find Charles and come face to face with him too, but that would take it's own time and she's not sure that she's prepared for that just yet. Hank is easier because she had seen him in the time between Erik and Washington, knowing that he still trusted and wanted her.
Now they just stare at each other, sitting comfortably, and Raven finds she doesn't want to think about hanging up the phone. Instead, she just watches him. ]
Is there anything else I need to know? There's no space bugs or giant monsters that are going to eat us, are there?
no subject
Maybe I'll just go over them. [and what a sight that would be, a giant blue-furred beast quite literally jumping and swinging over people to get to one person. He can only imagine the heart attack he'd give to anyone unfortunate enough to be around at the time. That thought and Raven's comment make his smile grow, just a little more]
No, no space bugs or monster. [he huffs out an amused sound] There's nothing really . . . threatening at all. It's been nothing but safe so far. [but there's a tone in his voice that says he's just waiting for it anyway, that as soon as he lets himself stop believing something will happen, everything will hit the proverbial fan. He'd already had a healthy sense of paranoia before, but his time in Kyriakos had taken that a step further - always expecting something bad to come along to ruin the good]

You could do a somersault. I'm sure you'd be able to make the jump easily. [ Her eyes are wide and bright as she looks at him, lifting a hand to push her hair from her face so she can lean forward and look at him all over again. Oh, Hank is still so stunning and she can't deny that - the way that he is, as a person, the brightness of his features and how he seems to be growing more comfortable. It makes her happy in a way she's never really felt before.
Breathing out, she nods her head. ] Okay. If any giant space bugs do come for us I'll make sure they don't touch you, don't worry. I can be pretty scary when I want to be.

I can jump pretty far. [it's a mild comment, more thoughtful than any manner of bragging. Like he's seriously considering the merits of this hypothetical situation] A somersault would make it look a little more impressive.
[now it's his turn to laugh, a huffed out noise full of amusement. He shakes his head] Are you saying I can't handle a couple of giant space bugs? I've dealt with worst.
no subject
'Pretty far' might be an understatement, Beast. [ She raises her eyebrows, as if she's really trying to figure it all out. ] Do you think you could make it over a crowd? Would I have to meet you half-way?
[ Her legs cross under her and she huffs, shaking her head. ]
Just because you've done it before doesn't mean you have to do it again.
no subject
I like to make understatements. [he counters, the grin briefly widening] I could, maybe? But it depends on the size of the crowd, and we won't run into one on any of these ships. [the moon was a different story, but he hums, thoughtful] Down on the moon, though - mm, those crowds would be - easy. [confidence in his powers are hard without him trying put a scientific explanation behind it. But he's trying]
I can't let you have all of the fun. [he raises both eyebrows, grin threatening to break through again] It wasn't space bugs, though. It was giant candy bears.
[and there it is, the first tentative drop of new information, that he's been elsewhere. Mixed in with the joking to ease her into what will be one hell of an explanation]
no subject
Understatements is definitely your strong suit. [ His confidence, however wavering, is charming to her and Raven brightens, staring him down with a fond expression that she just can't hide. There's a softness there and it warms her head to toe, letting her eyes drag over his features before she relaxes and settles, just taking him in. ] I bet you could do it too. You're amazing, you know, I bet you could do anything you put your mind to.
[ ... Giant candy bears. Her expression stills, pausing for a moment, before she tilts her head up and watches him, uncertain and careful. She doesn't want to ask, but curiosity gets the better of her as it always has. ]
Giant candy bears?

If he wasn't sitting already, he'd be shifting from foot to foot, awkward in the face of Raven's honest confidence in him. As it is, a hand comes up to rub the back of his neck and he glances away from the screen, not quite flustered but almost there. He doesn't fluster easily anymore, save for here and there, and yet Raven manages it easily] I think you're giving me a little too much credit. [he manages after a moment, peeking at the screen from the corner of his eye] There's plenty I can't do.
[it wasn't baiting, not really. But it was a long story, part of what Erik and Charles would tell her later. He nods at her question, lips quirking]
They were more annoying than dangerous. This . . . uh, this place isn't the first one I've been to. I - ended up somewhere else, a few months ago.
no subject
One thing hadn't changed, however, and that's her true and honest faith in Hank and his mutation. She knew that he was incredibly smart, and strong, and fast, and all of that came together in a package that she believed in. Raven knew that he struggled with that, so she knew she had to be the one to remind him, as often as she could. He was beautiful as well, and he had to remember that. ]
I think you're far less limited than you think you are. It might not be a bad thing, but - you never know.
[ Her voice doesn't waver, but he does continue and she feels strange and out of place all over again. Bowing her head, she breathes in and out before she nods, once, sharp and sure. Okay, she can do this. She has to - she doesn't have a choice. ]
Where? [ And, then - ] It was where Charles and Erik reconciled, right?
--> private;
But it isn't as bad as he once was. It takes a bit, to get through the slowly crumbling defenses of who he was to who he is now, and he manages something close to a genuine half-smile and a shrug. He can accept that much]
Mm, you never know. I guess we'll see.
[he debates for a moment, before he switches the feed over to private; this explanation was going to be far more personal than what he's told other people until now, and at least the private feed would keep it between them. A part of him feels bad, knowing that maybe Erik or Charles were watching the conversation, but - he's sure they'd understand, too]
It was where it allowed them to - mm, set it in stone? So to speak. It was called Kyriakos. [he forces a small smile, albeit one that's lopsided] I can save the full explanation for when we're - together, if you want. It's . . . long, and it's really unbelievable.
[it's up to her if she wants to do this now or not. He'll let her decide]
no subject
She had learned the hard way how damaging that could be to whatever tentative thing they shared.
As soon as she notices the change to private Raven sits up, leaning forward so she can pay attention. A part of her is desperate to know, desperate to learn whatever it is she missed, whatever her brother and Erik had been through that had pushed them together after all the years of being apart, all the broken promises and all the betrayal, but another part of her wants nothing to do with it.
Another part of her wants to pretend that none of it's happened and it's all some strange, stupid dream.
Hank's smile doesn't do much to reassure her and soon as she gets the chance she shakes her head, frowning and glancing away. ]
No, I don't want to know. Not yet, I just - I don't.
no subject
He won't push her. In fact, the sigh he lets out almost sounds relieved, that he doesn't have to get into that for now. It can be saved for when he can work up the nerve, for when she's ready]
That's fine. Whenever you're - ready, it's on your terms.
