    [ Thump. Thump. Thump.

The device has no video feed, at least not initially, but there's a constant sound of thumping and a press of a body against something that's definitely metal. It keeps up until there's something like a growl of frustration, and even when it comes to an end it's with a rather large thud that sounds close to dangerous. What comes next is a series of scratches, and then, finally, the sound of the device being picked up and some soft, slightly laboured breathing.

Then it's thrown against the wall and ends up clattering to the ground all over again.

She makes no effort to go and pick it up again, but there's the sound of someone getting to their feet and flopping back down on the mattresses they woke up. ]

    ( B )

[ Later, on the planet, Silvana is wandering around a little, her hair a tangled mess around her as she stalks through the forests. Whenever she hears a noise she reaches for the sword that should be on her hip, but with nothing there all she can do is grip the blankness - and look as irritated as she obviously feels. When she pauses, she lifts her hand to brush the markings on her face, blue paint that is still there from the last time she pressed it on, her skin feeling sticky and uncomfortable.

She needs to wash, but she doesn't feel safe, and she certainly doesn't feel comfortable.

Eventually, she's stopped at the edge of the forest to strip down a tree, grabbing a thick branch and moving to wrap the twining pieces of bark around the top - where there's a sharp rock, and she binds it together. Only then does she move, pressing herself up to her feet, shifting a little and holding tight to the makeshift spear with a tight grip, her skin pale as she glances around, awkward and uncertain. ]

Are you trying to hurt yourself or are you simply an idiot?

[Lark wasn't always the kindest with her words on a good day and today was not a good day since she'd found herself in this weird place. She'd listened to the voices through the small device and then abandoned it in another room when she couldn't figure out how it worked.

But then her exploring brought her here and the tiny kernel of concern for the stranger's well-being annoyed her, as did the sound of the woman thrashing against the metal like a trapped halla.

Lark stood with her arms crossed, a scowling and menacing even with as short and slim as she was. What she lacked in build, she made up for in presence.

However, she got the distinct impression this woman would not be so easily cowed as others of her kind often were.]

I must be trying to hurt myself, for I'm no idiot.

[ The words come out bitterly, and Silvana shifts, rubbing her hand against the aching side of her body - throwing herself against the walls and doors hadn't helped, even though usually it might have been more than enough. Without her dragon here and with nothing to suggest that her partner was around she felt weaker and less able, somewhat... Broken and lost, something in her very mind missing.

She wanted to stamp down on the device she'd been given, and she wanted to snap it in half with her hands. There are no weapons here - her sword has been taken away and there's nothing that she has but her fists to defend herself - and she's on edge from it.

Looking over, she gives the other woman an equally twisting scowl before she huffs a noise and flops back. ]

I'm familiar with breaking down doors. I'm not myself.
    reflectedblight: (Stupid shems)

[The way the woman said that told Lark she might not be all bluster. When called out, idiots often only proved exactly how stupid they were. She did not, Lark had to appreciate that even if it didn't keep the distaste from her face.

Light eyes looked to the door that wouldn't budge and nodded to it.]

It is no simple wooden thing, it seems built like a fortress. And seeing as you are no battering ram, I'm not surprised you couldn't get through.

[She pauses, her hands aching to hold her twin daggers and feel at least a fraction safer than she did now.]

They're aiming to make us feel helpless.

[She just wished she could claim it wasn't working.]

[ It feels as though she has lost too much of her strength, and there's a strange, awkward exhaustion that wraps around her - and she doesn't know what to do other than to accept it. She can't reach out with her mind to find her connection, and she feels a rush of discomfort as she tries to wrap her mind around it... But she can't. None of it makes sense, and her teeth clench together as she breathes out a hard noise.

She doesn't like this, and the tension rolls over her before she snaps her head back to her companion. ]

Wood or metal, neither matters. I have done it before.

[ Turning back, she looks at her companion, glancing at her up and down before she huffs a noise. ]

I am helpless. My dragon is gone.

    [personal profile] reflectedblight 2016-10-26 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
    [Disdain turns Lark's tone sharper.]

You are only helpless if you allow yourself to be. I don't know how you 'have' a dragon, but it can't be all the strength you have.

[No one threw themselves against a door like that and could be called weak.]

Have you tried using something other than your shoulder to get out?
    curadh: (042)

    [personal profile] curadh 2016-10-26 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Silvana scoffs, shaking her head. ]

She is my partner. I have her strength, her mind and her eyes. I am unused to having my own power without hers to share it with me.

[ She feels helpless, in a way she hasn't for a long time. She has to wrap her mind around the sudden loss of her strength, and she purses her lips before she leans forward, gathering herself. ]

They have taken my sword and my daggers. There is nothing on the door for me to pick.

[Lark doesn't understand and she suspects there wasn't really a way for her to. Whatever sort of relationship this woman was talking about, the elf couldn't begin to imagine it.

That last bit, however, she completely understood.]

We are in the same situation there, they took mine as well.

[She looked around and went to one of the walls to run her hands lightly over the strange seams in it.]

    Maybe there's a weakness.

I won't sit idly by and wait for something else to determine my fate.

    [personal profile] curadh 2016-10-26 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's something that's familiar to her - the lore of her world is epic and widespread, and she knows it; she had seen how people accepted her word and her strength simply because of what she was. Now... Now she feels like nothing, and it's a struggle to grasp that.

Huffing an angry noise, she shifts forward. ]

    I'll destroy them.

[ As soon as she can get her hands on them, of course. Shifting, she pushes herself up and moves over, dropping to one knee by the door. ]

There are no traps here, at least. I examined the room.
    reflectedblight: (Smart remarks)

    [personal profile] reflectedblight 2016-10-27 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
    That's more like it.

[It was a more productive attitude for sure and she didn't feel like playing caretaker for someone's hopelessness right now anyway. Motivating was kinder for them both.]

They think they don't need them. Perhaps they think we wouldn't bother trying to find a way out or perhaps they think we simply aren't clever enough for it.

    Their mistake.

[As much as she believed her own words, finding something to actually work on would make her feel better.]

    [personal profile] curadh 2016-10-27 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they underestimated us more than they ought.

[ Silvana is used to people not thinking she was enough; before she had left on her journey she had been prepared for her entire village to think of her as a failure, a black name upon their records. She had come back a success, true, but... It had come with a price.

Now she shifts forward, running her fingers along the edge of the door, frowning a little before she huffs an irritated noise. ]

They will have upset a dragon. I would not wish that on anyone.
    reflectedblight: (I don't believe you)

    [personal profile] reflectedblight 2016-11-06 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Good. Then perhaps we can kill them and go home.

[She says it simply. Normally, she wouldn't wish a dragon's rage on anyone either, she has scars from the times she'd pissed off a couple herself. But, normally, she wasn't being kidnapped far far away from her friends with no hope of seeing them. For some reason that part just pissed her right off.]

    What about that?

[She points to a little square panel next to the door, set into the wall and fairly inconspicuous, but it was something.]
