[To be fair to Eleanor, she doesn't know Edna. The Earth seraph looks sweet and kind on the surface. Part of it is definitely her clothing. (Thanks, Eizen.)

But, honestly, she's pretty mean to those who annoy her. And Eleanor fits that bill.]

It makes you an easy mark and leaves you open to attack too. I'm surprised you haven't learned that if you've hung around Eizen any. And pirates.

[The Lord of Calamity is a different story. Edna still doesn't know what to make of her.

But that pout? Better that Mikleo's.]

Elly, your voice is like nails on glass. I'd rather listen to Meebo's screeching all day.

[Especially since she's usually the reason for Mikleo's screeching.]

( ooc; lets skip forward and pretend there was already a sad sibling reunion full of tears, apologies, and someone getting jabbed repeatedly with an umbrella. )

[ As protectively looming presence Eizen shrugs, taking silent not of the pair of fish that seemed to make her smile. Now, by her side, should he still thinking of giving her gifts? He has known for years that nothing he sent would ever make up for how lonely and sad he left her. But who can blame him for wanting to spoil his little sister because he can. ]

If they were selling them for food, or for a particular cruel purpose, maybe. Do you really think pets are slaves?

[ Edna please, do you really have to be cynical about everything? ]

[As annoying as she found Zaveid's hovering for years, spending this time with Eizen is bittersweet. His larger than life presence is just like she imagined it would be while she spent all her time alone on their mountain, awaiting his letters.

She is, understandably, nicer to him than the others, but not even he is immune to her brand of cynicism. He never has been.]

I don't see the point in them. At least not in pets like this. They're boring. It's not like they're going to chase down anyone, is it?

Besides, what do we have but their word that they don't eat these poor suckers?

[ Not once in his long life has he been immune, if anything her cynicism makes him smile as his shoulders rise once more. It makes him happy, spending this time with her, more than he can properly express and more than he has any right to deserve. He has missed her dearly. ]

Well no, it's a fish. They aren't predatory in nature so they had no reason to chase anything down.

[ Eizen, she knows this. She's messing with you. ]

Supposedly. [ He gives the fish a look over, cocking his head off to the side. ] They wouldn't make much of a meal anyway. More scales and bone than meat.

[ And whose fault is that? He could have spent years with her if he hadn't been trying to protect her from his stupid, broken blessing. She's not going to beat that dead horse though. He knows he's dumb.

She's told him so.

And the look she gives him speaks volumes about her opinion on her brother's intelligence at that moment.]

Do you and the nerds sit around and just talk until you pass out? Their enthusiasm for ruins is about as bad as yours is for treasure. Then, you have Dezel and the animals.

[ Poor Zaveid, she is never bringing him up in this conversation. She's not happy with him. (Status quo, honestly.) ]

So, you're saying we can rule out cannibalism. Not that it really has anything to do with us, but that means they're engaging in a form of primitive slavery. [She frowns and looks away, hiding behind her parasol so that Eizen can't see her look of disgust at the very word.] Typical.

[ Ouch, that look cuts deep though it does nothing to lessen the grin on Eizen's face. He's certainly not ashamed of his eccentricities, it's a part of who he is, a part of being a pirate. ]

Unlike Sorey I don't need to breathe. [ He can talk all day!! ] I enjoy comparing notes, the both of them know a lot considering how much has been lost over the years. It's fascinating.

[ And so far neither Sorey nor Mikleo has corrected him over something trivial. ]

Edna. [ He doesn't need to see her face to know that look, he can hear it in her tone, and he knows what she's like. Though he has to wonder if she is actually worked up over the fate of fish, or if it is something else entirely. ]

[Even his stupid grin is welcome. All of the "pretty" things he's sent her over the years, the objects of his obsessions, she has every one. The vase as big as her, the clothes, the toys, the ribbons, the Normin.

Well, she'd had Phoenix until recently. The set of Nor dolls are somewhere with the rest of that crap.]

You should've been the one to have to deal with them in all those ruins then. It was boring to me.

[This is definitely one of the few areas where the siblings differ. He's a nerd. She's a troll. But they work together, for the most part. Or they had before he left her on that mountain because of his curse.]

What? [They haven't talked about her general dislike of humans and how angry she'd become over the years because of the way things turned out. She hadn't seen a point and she still doesn't. It won't change anything. He'll still end up a dragon and she'll still have to help take him down to save him, to put him out of their collective misery.

And it'll still hurt her with every unneeded breath she takes.] Am I not allowed to sympathize with fish?

[ He has been doing his best to be somewhat less annoying, mostly because he's been avoiding her and any mention of himself, Eizen or what happened to them all before she arrived. ]

There's loads to do! You just gotta go and see it.

[ Ah, that frown... It's so cute... ]

You been to the Iskaulit yet?

Oh... it's a spread made out of peanuts. So... this stuff, probably isn't far off from actual peanut butter.

[He sniffed at it. Definitely smelled like it. And he tasted it. Yup. Probably the closest thing to the original there was.]

Yeah. Definitely peanut butter.

[Keith couldn't help the small smile at that.]

Man... you'd really get along with my friend.

Maybe I will next time we find some ruins.

[ He'd enjoy that, honestly, though he doesn't loudly admit it. Eizen has been enjoying the time he has spent with the Shepherd and Mikleo, those two are living proof that things between humans and seraphs can get better, that do get better.

Besides he knows Edna has never really been one for such things, not for the history behind some of the gifts he sent, or boring old ruins. And yet she still kept them, everything he sent, no matter how dull and boring she found it. He doesn't deserve her. ]

I didn't say that.

[ Eizen's hand reaches into his pocket, curling around his vessel. Those things that go unsaid sit heavily on their shoulders, those inevitable things that neither of them can do anything about. He might have accepted it long ago but that doesn't mean the people around he has too, it doesn't mean his sister has. ]

There's nothing wrong with living simply. No sin to just do the best we can.

Thank you. [Cas settles into a stool and pulls the mug toward him.] I am relatively new here.

Who said anything about sin? I'm just saying that being too simple is a hinderance. And you don't get much simpler than pet fish in a bowl.

[She gives him a sardonic smile.]

Except for maybe you.

[It's been awhile since she's gotten random parcels, and as much as she claims to hate it, she's actually missed it. While he wanted to spend all that wasted time with him, it was sort of sweet to know that he was still thinking of her.

And when he ate that Lord of Calamity and and turned into a dragon, he'd come back to her and their mountain.]

You didn't have to say anything. Everyone seems to have this idea that I don't feel things like others. [And the truth is that she feels it, keenly. Too keenly to be properly expressed.] I'm not some monster. I thought you'd know that better than anyone else, Eizen.

[As much as she sort of adores dorky Sorey and moody Mikleo, having Zaveid around to understand her feelings about her brother was nice back home. Here, however, he's been ignoring her and as much as she'd claimed she wished he'd done that back on Rayfalke, she hates it here.

Lailah is gone, though she'd been there before. Rose and Alisha are still back home. And she's never really been close to Dezel.

So, who is she left with that knows? Zaveid. And he's been treating her like she's about to turn into a dragon herself. It's irritating and she's done with it.]

Are you asking me out on a date? I don't think Eizen would like to hear that.

[Meaningless when everyone knows that all she has to do is stab him a few times with her parasol or punch him in the face. Doesn't stop her brother though. He's hopeless.]

Besides, I don't date deviants with long hair.

Alright, Keith. Bringing engines up to one-quarter throttle.

[There's a dulled sensation of acceleration as the ship jumps out of the shuttle bay and into the black. This doesn't surprise Kanaya, of course, knowing thanks to the implant all about the ship's inertial systems, intended to allow the shuttle to reach great speeds without pulping it's occupants. What is surprising, however, is the view. It's her first time out in real, normal space, and she's clearly a bit awestruck as she guides the craft in a long sweeping arc around the fleet.]

That sounds... very strange. Potentially delicious?

[He has no idea. It sounds weird, but pretty much everything he's experienced in the Fleet so far has skewed over to the 'weird' category, so he has to find some give somewhere.

He flashes a wide grin.]

I like to think I get along with most people. [He has to, it's literally his job. ] But it would be nice to meet someone with similar tastes to my own.

[She shrugs.]

They might not even realize its ugly.

[Isn't that how a lot of people were? They convince themselves what they're doing is okay, and even right, and become blind to the problems with it.]

[What the heck, Edna, is it really necessary to say it like that? ...is what he would ask, if it were anyone but her. At this point comments like that are expected, and he merely glowers at her, arms crossing over his chest.]

Selling them would create a market, if you have to ask, which would encourage breeding of the species. Anyway, of course I know it isn't that simple. I'm a water seraph, and this is a water planet. This isn't the first time we've seen it, though it was worse elsewhere.

[ Zaveid is doing his best, he really is, but it's hard. Having Eizen around, having Edna back, all after what happened with the others... It's not as simple as just accepting things for what they are and moving on. It's harder, complicated, and he doesn't really know what to do about it all.

He wants to reach out and help her, though. He's just not sure how to do it just yet. ]

Hey! I told him I was gonna marry you once. He seemed fine with it.

[ If shouting his name threateningly was being 'fine' with it, and Zaveid just grins, beaming at her.

At the same time, though, he puts a hand on his chest. ]

Damn... Good think I'm spoken for.

W-well, maybe that's a good thing!

[Eleanor can only stutter out a response. In five minutes, Edna had already managed to get her completely unhinged.]

[It should have been a harder feat, considering her travelling companions, but Edna has an edge that she's not used to. Her pout only intensifies.]

After all, it's better to fight nobly and keep a bright outlook, is it not? Even your brother has a creed he adheres to, does he not?

[Maybe she could come out on top still. But it was looking very, very unlikely.]

You know, the things you're saying could be taken as rather cruel.

Right.

[Keith glanced over as they came out and around, recognizing that look. Even with all the times now that he'd been in space, it still was a little awe inspiring to actually do it.

And to do it without any pressure around him from fighting or missions or anything else like that? It was almost strange. He could actually sit back and relax if he wanted to... enjoy it for the first time in at least a year. He wasn't exactly sure how long it had been, but wow. He sat back in his seat as the realization suddenly hit him.

He could enjoy this again.]

It's pretty popular. Well, for people who aren't allergic.

[He shrugged. He wasn't, so it was all good.]

Hunk imagines himself to be something of a gour... gourmet? [He had a specific word for it that was similar, but Keith couldn't really be bothered to remember it right.] But he's really good at it, too. Like, he's been able to take alien ingredients we've never even encountered before, and turn them into something that actually tastes good.

I'm Mon-El. [He offers his hand for a shake. Maybe not regular bartender behavior in the world, but they aren't in the world. They're in the fleet and Mon-El doesn't really know how to be regular anyway.] It's good to meet you.

[He may or may not have been going for the patented headtilt, yeah.

Oh, absolutely. Why wouldn't they be?

I used to read it all the time as a kid, and... Kind of a bad message, telling kids to eat food that isn't the usual color it's supposed to be, now that I think about it.
