[Discovering and drawing new creatures? That is totally John's jam. Unfortunately, he can't really draw too easily underwater, but -- for lack of anything better to do he's out exploring the wildlife and plants that can be found under the sea. He's gotten himself one of those rainbow fish, too, and it's following him around quite happily. Maybe if he stares long enough at this jellyfish-thing he'll commit it to memory and draw it when he gets back shipside.]

    Shipside:

[So yeah. The thing about dying in 1782? Is that you have a lot of stuff to catch up on once you get to the future. Sure, the augment helps up to a point, and he's managed to get over most of his culture shock. (Sometimes he still looks a little shocked at electricity, though. What? It's awesome.) As it stands, though, he's always had a passing interest in the medical field, so his lab augment came in particularly helpful. He can still be found brushing up on everything he's missed in the past -- however many years he's been dead; most often in the common room. That's where he is today, surrounded by a bunch of tablets and making notes on his comm.]

Captain Jack Harkness | Doctor Who/Torchwood

    [personal profile] faceofbeau 2017-03-10 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't the first time Jack had been to an ocean planet before, but it was certainly the first time he'd been to one where there was no need for any kind of assistance when it came to breathing beneath the planet's surface. So he'd been a bit surprised by the initial drop into the water of course, without being offered any kind of filtration or breathing system, but as soon as he'd realized he could breath just fine? Well, he'd taken to the planet beautifully, and had begun to explore.

It hadn't taken him long at all to find a place that served the local version of 'drink'; kelp infused with alcohol. He'd had stranger things, and after trying it, he'd certainly had worse tasting things. It wasn't bad at all, really. He could be found partaking of the drunken kelp more than a few times; visitors might find him in moods that were somewhere between happily cheerful, flirty, and drunk, and- if he gave himself too much time to think- beginning to drift into silence and a familiar emptiness.

Are these really the only beds they have here?

    (B: In Person, shopping)

[Even traveling with pirates doesn't prepare you for living under water. Clearly the best way to adjust is to focus on what you're already comfortable with. Velvet is heading out to do some shopping. You might find her checking out the available local foods. But more likely you'll see her browsing whatever weapons she can find. [It should've been Billy's dream come true. He could set aside the forced kidnapping. He could disregard the alterations to his brain. There was a lot Billy was willing to accept in order to have the chance to explore the wider universe.

But being dropped right into the middle of an underwater civilization was a bit much for someone who'd shied away from the ocean for most of his life.

Fortunately, fish no longer terrified him. Unfortunately, the years of fearing the water didn't leave him with extensive experience swimming, so he spent much of the first day floating in a ball, looking at a 'how to swim' explanation, and working on improving his technique. After a quick frog-stretch, he shook his head and laughed.]

I've never been so relieved to be unable to drown.

    On-ship
[Billy was by far more comfortable exploring the tiny ship he'd been assigned to. He occasionally prodded at the back of his neck, frowning at the implications of the augment, but he ignored the discomfort by throwing himself into learning everything he could.

Sure, he was a communications-augment now, but he'd dabbled in piloting, engineering, and lab work at home and he longed to do it all. His crewmates of those specialties would often find him in the next room, reading a related manual and willing himself to understand an auxiliary engine diagnosis. The difficulty of the other specialties was unexpected and frustrating.

Finally, he tucked the data pad away in defeat.]

    A.Network: [Voice]

Aren't there star charts available for pilots? Or at least the communicator officers? The scans have been good enough not to fly blind, but I admit I'm surprised such an organized fleet doesn't keep track of its trajectory.

Would an engineer be able to program something for it? [Usually that would be out of the question, but if he understands correctly, limitations work a bit different here. Which is frustrating to say the least.]

    B. Planetside: Air-diving

[Shiro isn't sure when it was the last time he flied for pleasure, but he knows he misses it. A lot. So as soon as he hears there's a popular tourist attraction that is all about flying, well, he's there faster than you can blink. He watches a couple of divers before he finally joins without hesitation, and boy does get into it. His first dive is moderate, but the more he tries it the higher he goes. It's obvious even for a stranger to notice how much he enjoys it - he looks the most relaxed he's been since he's arrived to this "show" and there's a delighted smile on his lips.

If you approach him during one of his in-between-dives breaks to ask him about his flying, pay a compliment or call him a lunatic, he'll keep the same smile as he answers with his own question.]

    A. ( PLANETSIDE / EXPLORING & SHOPPING. )
[ It is a common know fact that Eizen and water don't mix. Being an earth malak he lacks the ability to swim, or even float, sinking like a literal rock straight to the bottom. It made his initial entrance to the planet somewhat interesting, bringing for a moment of panic rarely seen in the pirate, ending only when realization hits that he could still breathe. After that... Well it wasn't so bad, he could live with sinking instead of floating.

He makes the best of it exploring his surroundings with determined purpose, learning what he can from the idle chatter of the locals or whatever catches his eyes. He even uses his inability to swim to his advantage, jumping off one or two high ledges to get somewhere lower more quickly - without any warning to the poor people below.

And when not exploring he is found not so subtly shopping, examining weapons, coral pieces, jewelry, garments made of sea-silk, little plushes of various sea life, and of course their selection of colorful flying fish. Shopping for someone? Or maybe he is shopping for himself? It's a little hard to tell. ]

    B. ( SHIPSIDE. )
[ Eizen shouldn't be allowed to be left alone in a room full of machines he does not completely understand, it is a recipe for disaster. Because curiosity can be dangerous when it comes to him, curiosity can cause him to try to figure out how said machines work, and curiosity can inadvertently make one spark viciously after Eizen tried to turn it on. ]

The constant noise and hum are vastly different than the sounds of Skyhold or even the forests they find themselves in. Certainly nothing like living creatures.

He can be found in various parts of the ship at any given time: the kitchen attempting yet again to figure out the contraption that dispenses what passes as food. No matter what anyone says these are not vegetables, the hallways familiarizing himself with the layout, or in the bridge staring out at the vast blanket of stars. ]

    [ Planetside ]
[ As strange as it is being underwater and being able to function normally, the cities of the planet truly are something to behold. Vast buildings that seem alive and as much a part of the wildlife itself are interesting to navigate, but the locals are quite helpful. The illness that seems to plague them is troubling, so the Inquisitor can be found using what healing magic he does have in order to aid them. There's little else to do, and he has no coin to really speak of. This is merely an extension of what he's trying to do in Ferelden, though at a much smaller scale. ]

[As a rustblooded troll, Aradia is pretty much the opposite of a seadweller. So she was a wee bit concerned when they got all the way to the decontamination room and there was still no sign of how they were expected to breathe. Ultimately she'd come to the conclusion that the station must be air-filled, too, because ha ha, what other explanation could there be?

(She was wrong about that, obviously.)

So as the party gets dumped in the drink, there's a loud SPLASH followed by a bunch of goofy-looking panicked flailing. Enjoy that. Or, I mean, alternatively you could help, it's up to you.]

    B. Bleetzboll

[Although Aradia's not nearly a good enough swimmer to play blitz- buoya, she is fine with watching! By now she's gotten her impressive volume of hair wrangled into a couple of braids, so at least no one will be yelling "down in front".]

Woooo! Yeah, go team! [-she cheers along with the crowd, as somebody presumably scores a score. But then she'll turn to you, nearby, grinning widely.] I have no idea what's going on.

    C. Did somebody say ancient ruined temple yes please

[Not one to let a little thing like barely being able to swim stop her, Aradia booked it for a temple the second she heard someone was going. This one's located in the midst of a vividly-colored coral reef, but (following a moment's genuine appreciation of the view) she's much more interested in what's to be found inside. So yeah she's just gonna poke her head right in there.]

Hellooo! (hello! hello!) Oh wow, that's a great echo. I've got a good feeling about this one.

[This is actually not entirely true. There's an undercurrent of worry in the back of her mind that she can't quite shake. Something about this planet's combination of ancient ruins and deadly viruses... She's getting the weirdest sense of deja vu, for some reason.]

( quick au explanation here )

[ shipside (assuming an assignment) ]

Zell was not having the best few days, let her tell you about it. And she would, to the first person that she saw on this damned tin can.

Everything leading up to this wasn't exactly sunshine and puppies, either, but this - this had really taken the cake. Zell was convinced she'd been time compressed, or gone insane. First she wakes up on a eerie, silent and sleek looking ship. She can't find Squall, Ellone, or Quistis, and no one here seems to know who the heck they are.

    And the food sucks.

    It really sucks.

Then she gets put on another ship, decidedly less sleek looking, and people still don't know who or what her friends are, what a Sorceress is ("No, not that kind!"), and she may have yelled at some of them and stomped off. She promptly gets lost, and then finds her way to the food dispensers, which leads to this.

Zell, poking morosely at some wheat protein arranged lengthwise, with a layer of chicken and cheddar gel on top. It is the saddest attempt at a hot dog.

    Zell could cry.

    [ planetside ]

After a few dramatics about breathing water, Zell manages to adjust to the planet enough. If by adjust you mean propelling herself about like a champion swimmer with a bit too much flailing, yes, she's... adjusted.

She can be found hanging around the food courts, trying everything in sight, and also playing with the poofy fish in the tourist traps.

Her real interest is in one of the underwater ruins. Maybe there's a GF inside! (No, not a girlfriend, a spirit monster bigger than your head that's more complicated than your relationship status.) That would make her day, so she's definitely asking literal passerby if they're interested in taking a traipse around.

    A. Fishing! Of course he will probably get arrested

[If there was one thing about this weird place Noctis could enjoy it was that everywhere one looked there was water. Eventually, Noctis finds himself a nice space to settle himself down for the moment, making a makeshift rod as best he can, and zone out into fishing.

He was still worrying about the rest but he didn't want to make waves trying to sort out where his friends are. The locals didn't seem to have the answers he wanted anyway. If anyone decided to try and explain to him that fishing was generally in poor taste, he would definitely consider not doing so. For now, it was his way to forget his problems.
    ]

Hmm. At least it's not hot.

[For now? Who knew if that would change. He's fine where he is at least.]

    B. Shopping District

[Noctis stops at various places, exploring and trying to get a look around. Anyone who spots him can find him picking up and examining trinkets like the fossilized sand dollars and even the plushies. Everything was so different from home and yet some things felt the same. The clothes left much to be desired and he had no intention of changing into something else, but the trinkets would make for fun things to collect if he desired to do so.]

at some point, he can also be found circling a structure in the city. it is clear that he's looking for the door, and also that he's absolutely frustrated at not being able to find it -- which probably sucks for him, since he's circling a natural structure and not a real building with an actual door. whoops. ]

[Shipside] Kanaya: Try to not think about catastrophic crashes full of flames and death.

Suddenly appearing in some other universe, subject to the whims of who knows what entities doesn't worry Kanaya. That's literally the story of her life. Suddenly being in space doesn't frighten her. She does come from a spacefaring race, after all, and besides, she once spent three human years trapped on a space voyage before this.

No, it's somethign else entirely that's filling her with trepidation as she stand in a shuttle bay. Sure, the implant has given her all the knowledge she could ever need in how to operate the SR shuttle before her. That's fine. It's just that... technology and her haven't always been the best of friends. And now, for some reason, she's been given skills as a pilot. At least if she were a cook a screw up would only get people sick.

[Planetside] Kanaya: Figure out this whole "swimming" business.
The sudden drop into water after decontamination causes Kanaya a moment of panic. Not because of any troubles with breathing, but simply with figuring out how to move. She grew up in a desert, and while she did spend a few days on a watery planet once, she never had a chance to really figure out that whole "swimming" thing.

Her immediate flailing at least calms quickly, as her panic turns to annoyance. Perhaps someone could help her figure this out?

[Planetside] Kanaya: Sample the local fashions.
Finally, something to get excited about. After finally getting acclimated to life below the waves, Kanaya can be easily found in one of many clothing shops and fashion boutiques. She's already dressed in local sea silks, swirling around her in black and a vivid crimson. Still, one can't just have a single outfit, now can they?

It's not that he'd come to much harm if he got wet, but it's not exactly easy to swim when you don't have legs. He's not about to try, either. No thank you.

Instead, he opts to stay in his ship, happily shuffling around the kitchen, setting the table- a task much easier when the cutlery can set itself, honestly. But he puts in a valiant effort all the same. Just because people are in space doesn't mean they can't have some fancy place settings while they eat. They're not animals. If you happen to pass by him on his task, he'll wave you over with a little candle arm.

He was aboard some sort of spaceship. How he got here caused him to wonder. Getting up, he felt the back of his head and grimaced. Definitely a headache. Was he knocked out upon arriving here? He had questions for sure.

Ardyn began to wander down the corridors, taking in the coldness of it all. If anyone decided to bump into him they could find him near the kitchen or the bridge. There were stars outside. Lots of them. He found himself just gazing out into the black nothingness of space. Were the Gods punishing him once more?]

Why did you bring me here? Am I to be punished a second time?

    [To boldly go....
    Planetside:]

[Ardyn had never been one for swimming or being submerged in cold water for a long time. Here he was, exploring this alien world, meeting locals and visitors alike. He had already eaten some seafood at one of the local restaurants and enjoyed it. Not bad. It even matched the quality served up at Galdin Quay's fancy restaurant by the beach. Altissia even.

Why, you could say he was even starting to enjoy himself. The dampness of his layers of clothes almost forgotten, as he walked through the new world just admiring the strange sights. It was then he decided to partake in some clothes shopping. Why not? Ardyn had always enjoyed wearing fancy clothes and his fashion sense could leave something to be desired.]

[ If they thought that Chris wasn't going to willing just jump on into the water, then they were right. But once he's dumped in and acclimated to the fact that he is not drowning and that the wet suit and flippers server a purpose other than making him look ridiculous before he dies, he's... kind of okay with it.

It's kind of cool, at least. Not the sort of thing he could do back on Earth. Nothing compared to swimming with the dolphins or whatever overly expensive attractions they tried to sell at aquariums these days.

He doesn't really know where he's going but he's careful to not stray too far from the familiar. It's one thing to walk unfamiliar streets that you could then back trace. Adding a third dimension, though. He finds himself attracted to a nearby bank of coral, not to far out of sight of where he dropped into the water to start, and he gets up close, admiring all the different kinds of sea life. He comes face to face with a parrotfish-looking thing that strobes colors slowly. ]

Hahah. You look friendly. What are you...?

The first person to pass by will see the fish swarming around him, and the pathetic look as he mouths the words help me.

Nevermind that he could just shoo them away. He doesn't want to upset them... ]

[Usually, Ignis has no trouble with finding new and interesting ways to make his ingredients into masterpieces that rival the kitchens of the best restaurants and the castle of the Crown City. He's made meals out of nothing many times while on the road with his friends. And even if they didn't find them the best thing ever in his three friend's opinions, they were nutritious and still good.

However, this? This is a conundrum. He's been given blocks of... something. And they don't even smell like they should be edible. No matter that the people... or beings responsible for his being somewhere other than Eos, fulfilling his duty had given him enough knowledge to use thes protein blocks to cook with, he still feels like it's an insult to food itself to have to use them at all.]

I cannot actually think of a thing to use these in to make them palatable. It's impossible.

    [Option B: Planetside Espionage]

[Intelligence gathering is one of his strong suits. So, when he's given the opportunity to get out and stretch his legs, he jumps on it. The novelty of space has definitely worn off, especially with the constant feeling of being watched and the threat of being a form of entertainment for complete and total strangers.

Walking through the jungle, with its thick foliage and strange fauna is oddly comforting. It reminds him of the many treks through strange woods and ruins in search of arms and gods. And cars.

Had he been alone, it might have been fine. However, he was paired with another and they were trampling along the brush like a pack of garula. With a look that could murder behemoth, he turns to face his "companion" and whispers:]

We're supposed to be moving silently. Are you aware of what that entails?

[ Signy isn’t completely opposed to having a drink and a good time, but this isn’t an environment that she things she can relax in. So instead her patrol of the area can’t be seen as anything else.

If she spots someone getting a little drunk and recognizes them as part of the fleet she won’t hesitate to approach. ]

I think it might be time for you to come back to the ship.

[ She has an attitude of authority that she doesn’t hesitate to try to use to be listened to. ]

    Shipside:

Elena is in no way adjusted to life in space (seriously she flip-flopped between being awed by that and being panicked by it) but she's no longer weirded out by it. Honestly, as weird as her life in general has been, she's not sure why she was ever weirded out in the first place. The only explanation she's got is there was never space.

She spends a great deal of time in the medical ward using both the knowledge the lab augmentation gave her and the knowledge she gained via medical school back home. She loves her job and is incredibly grateful she gets to do it here, but it does take up a lot of her time.

    Planetside

After working some overtime in medical, planetside is a welcome change, even if breathing water does take a little bit of getting used to. Once she does become accustomed to it, ever curious, Elena sets out to explore the place. She doesn't stay much of anywhere for long, there's far too much to see. She'll enthusiastically try the new foods and activities, talking to people both natives and ship mates alike. She works hard, but to be cliched, she's learned to play hard as well and she's not about to let new experiences like this pass her by.

[Of all the things to see and do under this sea, Castiel goes and finds pet fish. He doesn't buy any -- yet, give him time -- but he does spend just about every waking moment staring at them.

They're fascinating, okay? And pretty. He likes the colors.

Sometimes, he even talks to them -- with open-ended questions and then he waits and listens like they're speaking back to him. That's not weird at all, right?]

    Iskaulit/Space Bar
[An angel walks into a bar. No, there's no punchline. Cas goes to the Space Bar. He rarely drinks anything -- that only happens if he's drinking with someone else -- but he does just... hang out. And read sometimes.

Sometimes just sit there like a statue.

Occasionally, he'll take it upon himself to start cleaning the table in front of him -- which becomes the tables around him and that becomes just straightening up everything in the bar. It's not slight against the current management; he just does it without even thinking.

So if he's reaching across you to wipe some imaginary dust off the bar, you'll just have to pardon him.]

[Oh, shit. Mother. Fuckin'. OCEAN PLANET.

OCEAN PLANET THAT PEOPLE CAN BREATHE IN THE WATER? DUDE.

Jotaro, for one, is not going to want to leave for a long, long time. Thankfully, he's got applicable skills for a number of the things to do here. Today, he's simply exploring some remote areas with some others, trying to find some kind of clue about this plague - and with his Stand's help, he's got the vision to really get down to business for finding things.

He's a rather odd sight in the water, though, still fully clothed in his ridiculous outfit and half-a-hat. If he can breathe, he has exactly zero compromises to make in regards to his aesthetic.

He's also rather...involved in his work, not terribly observant of any dangers he might wander into. Or any conversations directed at him.]

    [On the planet]

[An underwater planet, full of weird music that sounds like it belongs in the echoes of one of Sorey's ruins. Despite the bored look on her face, Edna follows every motion with alert eyes. Her clothes and parasol are completely drenched, of course, but she doesn't care. She doesn't bother with flippers or a shuttle. She's walking around by herself, letting it all sink in.

This is what Eizen chose over her for a long time. Water and the things in the ocean had seemed more important to him than her for so long, despite the numerous gifts and letters. Despite the fact that she knew he loved her the most.

She hates it. All of it. It reminds her of too much she doesn't want to remember.]

When are we leaving this dumb place? There's water in my boots.

    [Shopping]

[Things are the same, no matter where you go or who you're with. When humans—or humanoids, she guesses—gather, they have to trade. And she's just bored enough to go through the market, parasol opened despite the slight drag she has to put up with as she moves.

Some of the clothes look like some of the things she's received over the years from her brother. Ribbons and lace and flowers, dresses with elaborate fish patterns, gloves that look like they belong on dolls.

She passes by all of them and stares at the pets for sale. The colors are amazing and she almost smiles as she sees a pair—one bigger and the other smaller—that look alike swim together.

When someone she vaguely recognizes as one of the people on the space ships passes by, she puts out a hand to stop them. Maybe they can see her or maybe they don't, she doesn't care.]

Fish are selling fish. Isn't that a bit like cannibalism? Or is it slavery?

[Cue one very confused little thing currently covered in bruises and her skirt is ripped to bits. The last thing Kristen can remember is being slammed out of the path of bullets before she found herself on a ship that reminded her of something from Nygma's movie collection. So she does the one thing she can do, Kristen is going to explore and see just what exactly the latest puzzle turns out to be. But on a hunch she blasts out a quick message.]

Does the name Gotham City mean anything to anyone here?

(Coming in from the GCPD shooting in early season 2 (has no idea it was Nygma who saved her from bullets) and will match style and head for any locations!)

[There is a lady with some weird face art(?) prying open a bulkhead and poking around in there. Does she know what she's doing? Maybe someone should stop her before she disconnects that important-looking bundle of wires--

    Too late.]

    [Planetside]

[Do Borg implants survive being submerged in water? Apparently, since Seven is currently swimming around a shopping area fairly aimlessly, though she has a somewhat discomforted look on her face. She mostly seems to be browsing at the moment.]
