[He smiles, trying a bit of confidence for the sake of his crewmates.]

There's not much use worrying about what we can't control, though, is there? All we can do is stay alert and assist each other, and we can do that, right?

How have you been settling in?
    musicalhost: (hopeful)

    literally my favorite ranger <3

    [personal profile] musicalhost 2017-03-13 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
No, I guess not. I could probably ask Beverly if she knows anything extra about the augments later, she's been here awhile.

[Confident or not, Ezri appreciated company and conversation, meeting new people. This was the entire point of living so many lives.]

Better than most people, but I'm used to space travel. I used to be assigned to the USS Destiny. [The space sickness is still there though.] What about you? I know a lot of people here have never been on a starship before.

[Billy laughed and shook his head.]

Wow, that sounds incredible! I'd love to hear about your adventures if we get bored and you're ever inclined.

But anyway, no. I lived a fairly ordinary life on Earth, if you're familiar with it? I was still in school. But I've always dreamed of coming up here and seeing the stars up close. Relatively speaking.

I only have a few stories but you're actually in luck, I have eight other lives to draw from! [Her face drops immediately, hands coming up slightly.] I mean, if that doesn't bother you. A lot of people can be uncomfortable around joined Trill.

I do know Earth though, one of my oldest friends was born on Earth. And I went to Starfleet Academy, in California.

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-13 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm from California! I'm sure it's changed across the years and across dimensions, though. But why would I be uncomfortable around Trill? People are wary about your multiple lives?

[It's not what he's used to hearing about, but that's just an excuse to listen more often. He leans forward, attentive.]
    musicalhost: (well...)

    [personal profile] musicalhost 2017-03-13 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Really? That's amazing, I loved my time on Earth. And I'm sure it has, I've seen some historical records.

[Slowly, she lets her hand hover over her stomach and her pouch.] And it's because Trill are symbiotic. My other lives, they're all here. In Dax. I'm just one host. And some races think our symbionts are just parasites. It was a big secret until a few years ago.

[Billy listens politely, taking a moment to try to wrap his head around the concept. He can't really think of an appropriate analogy that he's familiar with, but that's all right.]

We're often intimidated by what we don't understand, or what we perceive to be smarter than us. I'm sorry you had to go through that.
    musicalhost: (well...)

    [personal profile] musicalhost 2017-03-13 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, don't be sorry for me. It was Emony, my third host, that really had to deal with it. A Tessma tried killing her at a gymnastics competition.

[She's glad that she hasn't had that much trouble. And that incident did cause discussions to be opened to heal the rift between Trill and Tessma.]

I wonder how much time is between us. It's about... 2375 when I'm from.

[Gymnastics competition? A memory of Kimberly twirling flashes through his mind, but he dismisses it with a gentle smile.]

I'm from 1994. Assuming we're using the same calendar, of course.

But now you have me wondering. Do you retain all the skills from your...past incarnations?
    musicalhost: (smile)

    [personal profile] musicalhost 2017-03-14 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
    [She just gapes a little.]

That's definitely a bit of a jump. I mean, I think the calendar remains the same, we use stardates now as well. Wow, you're just a couple decades away from when Dax was born. [She knows it's not possible, but she's sure she can feel the symbiont react to someone so close to when it was born.]

And more or less. I don't take as much pleasure from their hobbies now though. I'm pretty sure I remember how to do some of Emony's routines. And I definitely remember Klingon martial arts, mok'bara, Curzon was a lifelong student. It's kind of like Earth's tai chi?
    morphitudinous: (conversed)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-15 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[He has to smile at that.]

I know a little of tai chi. One of my best friends was a serious student.

Do you have a favorite athletic pursuit now? Not that we can really pursue it currently, but...
    musicalhost: (hopeful)

    [personal profile] musicalhost 2017-03-22 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I could show you a bit, if you ever want.

And, [hmm] I suppose it would still be mok'bara. Some of the gymnastic Emony did give me headaches.
    morphitudinous: (smile)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-22 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
    I think I'd like that.

And...actually, I'm not familiar with the term?
    musicalhost: (smile)

    [personal profile] musicalhost 2017-03-22 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Klingonese is a little strange but it's a pretty decent meditative and defensive technique. We'd have to do hand-to-hand, of course. I doubt anyone here has a bat'leth or mek'leth.
    morphitudinous: (Default)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-23 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think I could handle that. I'm not as good at that kind of thing as most of my friends are, but I've learned.

    What are the basics?
    musicalhost: (well...)

btw if you need an invite, I'll be hapy to be yours

    [personal profile] musicalhost 2017-03-24 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
That's alright, I'm probably not nearly as good as Jadzia was but to start, instead of slow fluid movements like it tai chi, mok'bara uses clawed hands and fast, rough movements. Klingons are a warrior race so their combat will be a little more... ruthless.
    morphitudinous: (conversed)

that'd be perfect, thank you! i can whip up an app tomorrow :D

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-25 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not like what I know, but it's undoubtedly useful. We're not doing much else up here...I don't know what of value I have to share with you, but if there's any other way to compensate you I'll do it.
    musicalhost: ("Hi I'm Dax")

    awesome!

    [personal profile] musicalhost 2017-03-25 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't really owe me anything, I'm glad to do it. I'm no Worf but I'm sure I can teach a bit. If you really want, we can figure something out but it can wait awhile until you're settled.
    morphitudinous: (Positive)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-26 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You won't need to wait long. I'm used to training every day, I'll feel uneasy if I go too long without staying sharp.

    But thank you.

So long as you're sure. My job is ensuring the well-being of other people. At least back home, I'm trying here too.
