[She likes you. You're okay. You know, for a Lord of Calamity and a hellion.]

That's what makes it so hideous. Hypocrisy at its worse, actually. When you can't even see all of the cruel and terrible things you do, you've truly fallen into an abyss.

[Edna knows her deficiencies and she's not afraid to stare them in the face and tell them to go to hell. But, she doesn't really like to see a lack of self-reflection in others so they can stay "perfect".]

Although, I suppose I have to hand it to them for being so open about everything. At least it gives me the opportunity to know where the ones that can actually see me stand.

[Eizen's little sister has a cynical streak. Velvet isn't entirely surprised. She was around when the abbey was tethering malakhim and taking their free will in the name of the greater good. That's the kind of thing that's bound to make a person jaded.]

Puts things in perspective, huh?

[When it comes to humans? Yes, she is extremely cynical. She's lived through so many cycles of "change" with nothing actually changing but how much malevolence is in the air that...well, it would be too much for even Lailah.]

I guess. If you needed it. Frankly, I'm just interested in how many people on this world have enough resonance to see me. For...reasons.

[Return of Ghost Edna? Return of Ghost Edna.]

Oh, I get it. You want to know how many people you can spook.

[It's not that surprising. Everyone's gotta entertain themselves somehow.]

[She can't help the almost vicious smile that crosses her face before she twirls her umbrella.]

It's interesting to see their reactions. Because mysterious voices that they can't explain always make them freak out.

I have to have some fun sometime.

Hey, if you're invisible you might as well take advantage of it.

[She'd sometimes scold Magilou about fooling around too much back home, but in this particular scenario, what else is there to do, honestly? Being stuck in space can be surprisingly boring sometimes.]

Well, I haven't always been invisible to Earth Dwellers, but sometimes it's fun to pretend I'm a ghost.

[Her smile turns into something fond as she remembers one incident in particular.]

You've met Sorey, I'm guessing. It's a shame that his Squire isn't here.

[Either one of them. They're both easy targets in their own way.]

[Yeah, it's kind of her fault most people stopped being able to see them again. She almost says something to that effect but is distracted by the mention of Sorey and "his Squire."]

Squire? What's that?

[Look, she's grateful for the whole "only people who don't completely suck can see her" thing. Well, them and hellions, but she can handle herself around those. No leather off her boots that the humans aren't special enough to see her anymore.]

What? Your Shepherd didn't have Squires? [She turns her lips up in a near sneer.] No, of course not. Why would the humans fight. I forgot.

Squires serve under the Shepherd. They have to make a pact with the Shepherd's Prime Lord and any and all Sub Lords. Sorey's had two, Alisha and Rose. And all the seraph here now, except my stupid brother, are Sub Lords to the Seraph Lailah.

They're sort of like mini-Shepherds, I guess.

Except Rose has a great sense of humor about most things and Alisha's pretty naïve about everything.

He's not my Shepherd.

[Her response is automatic and sharp. She's not sure if Edna was actually trying to get a rise out of her, but it's not hard where Artorius is concerned. She followed his teachings when she thought of him as a brother, when she was young and naive. Once he became the Shepherd she knew he was full of shit.

She calms down after a moment, though. Mostly.]

Sounds like they're similar to praetors or maybe legates. But with more hoops to jump through since they can't enslave malakhim any more.

He was never mine either. Didn't stop him from trying.

[There's a topic that Edna's avoided for a while. The tethering of the seraphim/malakim and the first Shepherd is a period in time that she really, really, really resents. Of course, two things came out of it all, but two good things doesn't negate the fact that the Abbey used her kind as tools for their own ends, even to the point of tossing them aside when they couldn't move anymore.

She's not really willing to revisit it with anyone else. But talking to a Lord of Calamity that she can actually sympathize with? When was that going to happen again?]

Such a pity, that. Can't say I'm going to lose anymore sleep that I won't be chained to someone who'd use me as a thing. As it stands, if I ever wanted to, I could dissolve the pact I made with Sorey and Lailah. I don't have to help them.

[She wants to. But she doesn't say that out loud.]

[Velvet isn't always good about being delicate about things, especially not when she's distracted by Atorius-related anger. She mentioned the enslaving of malakhim kind of thoughtlessly. She doesn't jump to apologize, though, and Edna doesn't seem to be asking for one.

But, still, it's kind of nice to know they have choices in the future. She focuses on that rather than Artorius. At least for the moment.]

Yeah. If you get to do what you want, a pact sounds better than tethering.

[And Sorey doesn't seem to be the type to force anyone into anything.]

[ Edna doesn't expect apologies from hellions, friends of Eizen or not. If she needs to give one, she will, but they've both said things to test the other out, it seems and neither is really sorry.

So, they're about the same level of rude. It's something the seraph can respect. ]

Well, it has its own annoying parts to it, but it's not so bad. I have my free will, a pure vessel so that malevolence doesn't hurt me and some entertainment to kill the time. In return, I help them fight and break down walls and rocks that are in Sorey's way.

It could be worse.

[And everyone knows it.

Besides, Sorey's too dopey to force anyone into slavery. He'd be offended at the idea. It's a great deal of his charm, if Edna's honest.]

Yeah, it could be.

[They'd both been around to see how bad it could be for Malakhim. Edna seems pretty pleased overall with her current arrangement, though, which is what matters. But Velvet is still kind of curious.]

What's annoying about it?

[As much as she complains, she adores Mikleo and Sorey. Even Dezel grew on her. The arrangement worked out fine for her, even if she sometimes had to put up with dumb.]

You mean besides the fact that Zaveid is around all the time now? And he refuses to wear a shirt?

[The expression on her face should be all that Velvet needs.]

Oh, yeah. That. I should have guessed.

[She's not necessarily in a good position to criticize Zaveid's clothing choices, but she's also not really inclined to rush to defend them. Zaveid has always been a little ridiculous, anyway.]

I guess I could overlook that if he stopped trying to touch me.

[For all her complaints, she doesn't really try to stop him unless he really irks her.]

I'm afraid that I might get his gross.

Zaveid is an entity unto himself. He's probably not contagious.

[Probably.

She's pretty sure Edna can handle herself, though.]

Are you sure about that? I've heard that stupid catches.

[And he can be pretty damn dumb sometimes. Honestly, picking fights with Shepherds? Who does....

Nevermind.]

[Shh. The Calamity Crew makes excellent decisions.]

Pretty sure.

[That sounds wrong. So wrong.]

I hate to break it to you, but gross catches. I just hope his fashion sense doesn't spread. No one needs to walk around without a shirt all the time.
