On-Ship (the Twin Roses in this case)

    [personal profile] passingthrough 2017-03-11 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Only all the time. [Kitty is sitting on the arm of the pilot's chair instead of the part where the sitting is supposed to happen. The ship isn't flying at the moment since they're underwater and all. What's a pilot and co-captain to do? Actually, she'll just watch the newbie doing some of the same stuff she did when she arrived.

Computers had always come easily to her. She didn't want to brag, but she has some brag-worthy skills in that area. The genius word has been thrown around. This is also not her first rodeo when it comes to utilizing completely alien technology. In the past she's always picked it up relatively quickly. Here...? She spent months trying to learn the ship inside and outside and she could get to a certain point and no further. Even when she consulted with people who had the appropriate augments and did get it, she just couldn't. It was unbelievably frustrating. At this point, whether it's true or just the thing that helps her sleep at night she's fairly convinced that the augments don't just expand knowledge in some areas, they limit it in others. It's really the only thing that explains to her why someone with medical training and experience would be worse at treating someone than some random person that's never applied a bandaid but who happens to have a lab augment.]

Good rule of thumb not trusting the thing that controls your mind that was implanted by mysterious kidnapping overlords. Just a little tip from me to you.

[Billy can't help but smile a little. It's completely absurd, yet here they are. He leans back against the wall, fiddling with his glasses.]

Of course. What kind of malfunctions are we talking about?

I woke up in a guy's body one morning and stayed that way for a few days. [Just one example, but definitely a memorable one. But there are a variety of mental and physical changes it can make happen. Of course...they might be less a bug and more a feature.

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-12 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[It's not appropriate, but Billy can't help but find himself smiling at that.]

I've been in that situation with a friend before...but in our case, it was mostly my fault. At least I almost know what to expect.

Does active danger tend to happen often?

[Tilting her head.] You can change people's sexes? [That's new. Not that she knows much about him at this point.]

Uh, and no. There was one raid since I've been here. Two before that.
    morphitudinous: (looking up)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-12 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Not precisely. It was more of a personality displacement...meaning my mind occupied her body and she occupied mine. We made a mess of each other's lives that day.

[It's hard not to smile, now that he has some distance from that event.]

I'm not sure how reassuring that is. But we're equipped to handle raids, right?
    passingthrough: (Cool - Relaxed)

    [personal profile] passingthrough 2017-03-12 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I've done that too, but it was back in prison. [Not that kind of prison.]

So much of it is dependent on who's on the crew with what augments. We have trouble keeping security to give the ship weapons and engineering to give us shields. We're a capable group hand-to-hand though.

[He takes a note of that, with a slight raised eyebrow at the prison mention.]

When I've earned enough credit, I'll look at strategically switching. I'm sure I could manage any of the tasks. And I've had some...recreational martial arts training too.

[Well. It was a little more than that, but he'd keep his mouth shut.]

[She sees that eyebrow raise. She gets it a lot or a full on, "You were in prison?"]

It was another place like this. It just had a more honest theme. [After all, the fleet is a sort of prison too.]

What kind of recreational martial arts? Something with classes and belts and demonstrations? [Trying to ask without mocking!]
    morphitudinous: (invention)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-13 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, actually. And a side of gymnastics.

[He has the grace to look embarrassed.]

I know it sounds pretty useless, but I've scuffled with a few bullies. And I'll work on my aim.
    passingthrough: (Smile)

    [personal profile] passingthrough 2017-03-16 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't know. I was in ballet before I was in battle. I've heard stranger. It does sound like you'd be good in my dance classes though. I'll go ahead and sign you up.
    morphitudinous: (conversed)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-16 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[He tries to picture what Zack would say about that. Undoubtedly, he'd laugh and encourage Billy to remember all he'd learned of hip hop.]

Are they strictly ballet classes, or do you teach other disciplines?
    passingthrough: (Thoughtful - Gentle)

    [personal profile] passingthrough 2017-03-20 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
As much as I'd like to get everyone on the ballet wagon, I'm opening it up to other styles I don't know as well too. Like ballroom.
    morphitudinous: (Positive)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-22 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
...I might be a little better at that. There's a certain rhythm that I'm finally starting to learn.

    I'll look forward to it!
    passingthrough: (Curious - Interested)

    [personal profile] passingthrough 2017-03-23 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Good to hear. Have you had dance classes before?
    morphitudinous: (Positive)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-23 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
My friends were instructors. I learned some pop, some breakdancing---but neither well enough to really teach it.

Do you expect we'll attend a ball at some point?
    passingthrough: (Smile)

    [personal profile] passingthrough 2017-03-23 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
We have once already since I've been here. It was on the poison moon. The only highlight from that moon.
    morphitudinous: (Default)

    [personal profile] morphitudinous 2017-03-29 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine a poison moon would have many highlights...not that my Earth's did, either. It was a festering hive of evil.

But I'm glad I'll be prepared.
