Is this the only place they store food stuff?

[Maybe there was a fresh storage somewhere that had things that, well, weren't gel. He decided to explore a little further into the kitchen to find out.]

Well, we've got some... solid stuff in here. Not gel, but still apparently flavored or something.
servantnotserving: (Just for like two hours)

I believer there are taverns on the Iskaulit?

[Taverns. Yep. That's what he's gonna call them.]

I suppose we have to work with that we have.
    tempredmental: (Ugh)

    [personal profile] tempredmental 2017-03-28 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
    Taverns?

[His brain associated a "tavern" with something out of a fantasy movie, but he was pretty sure that wasn't what this guy was talking about. It was probably something like this, but with actual staff and upgraded facilities.

Keith went through what there was in the way of "solids" before finding some things that might fit the bill of what they were looking for.]

Well, we have chicken solid and gel, and mushroom gel... but we're a little short on the rest. It looks like most of the solid stuff in here is some sort of protein item... like a meat or something. The gels are apparently just about anything.

[Keith could just imagine the panic Hunk would be going through at such a selection.]
servantnotserving: (Yeah but that's just your opinion)

    [personal profile] servantnotserving 2017-03-28 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Qui, taverns! Where people go to drink?

[H absolutely means bars, but that's a dumb word for them, in his humble opinion. ]

That is a great tragedy. How do they expect people to eat at all? Prisoners are treated better.
tempredmental: (You Might Have A Point)

    [personal profile] tempredmental 2017-03-28 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
    Right. So, like... a bar.

[Because that was what they were called in modern times whether the talking magical candle person liked it or not.]

You got any other ideas? Maybe we should go through and see what we actually have, and then work from there? You know, instead of figuring out that we only have like, half a receipe's worth of ingredients every time.
servantnotserving: (So lemmie tell you how to get the ladies)

    [personal profile] servantnotserving 2017-03-29 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
    ...If you must.

[Come on, Keith, a bar is something you prop something else up with, come on. ]

That might be a better idea, mon ami. A half-made dish would be a very sad thing.
    tempredmental: (Blank Look)

    [personal profile] tempredmental 2017-03-30 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[It was also a place where people gathered to drink where he was from, so deal with it, Lumiere.]

Alright. So, let's see. Since you have all the gel things, you can look and see what's there. I'll check the rest of the solids.

[He started rummaging through them, grouping them by flavor so it was easy to tell which ones they had.]
    servantnotserving: (Oh you)

    [personal profile] servantnotserving 2017-03-30 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[It still sounds weird. The future is weird. ]

    Aye aye, mon capitaine!

[And off he goes, rifling through the gels, squinting at the words on them. Honestly, these are awful choices, how can people live with such basic flavours? ]
    tempredmental: (Mou...)

    [personal profile] tempredmental 2017-03-30 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Everything they had was extremely basic. This was going to be all about mixing and matching, and hopefully getting better selections from a planet later.]

Okay... not much to choose from here. I've got chicken, wheat, mixed vegetable, cheddar, spicy chili, teriyaki, peanut butter, cinnamon, chocolate, vanilla, banana, and... "unflavored".

[He said that last word an little uncertainly.]

Why would someone eat something that has no flavor at all?
servantnotserving: (I write tragedies not sins)

    [personal profile] servantnotserving 2017-03-31 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
    ...What is peanut butter?

[He looks at one candle hand, then the other, then slowly pats them together. Peanuts and butter doth not a pair make???? ]

A very sad and deprived individual. It's tragic to even think about it. A life without flavour.
    tempredmental: (I Got This)

    [personal profile] tempredmental 2017-03-31 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh... it's a spread made out of peanuts. So... this stuff, probably isn't far off from actual peanut butter.

[He sniffed at it. Definitely smelled like it. And he tasted it. Yup. Probably the closest thing to the original there was.]

    Yeah. Definitely peanut butter.

[Keith couldn't help the small smile at that.]

Man... you'd really get along with my friend.
servantnotserving: (So look this will be easy)

    [personal profile] servantnotserving 2017-03-31 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds... very strange. Potentially delicious?

[He has no idea. It sounds weird, but pretty much everything he's experienced in the Fleet so far has skewed over to the 'weird' category, so he has to find some give somewhere.

    He flashes a wide grin.
    ]

I like to think I get along with most people. [He has to, it's literally his job. ] But it would be nice to meet someone with similar tastes to my own.
tempredmental: (You're Cute When You're Flustered)

    [personal profile] tempredmental 2017-04-02 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty popular. Well, for people who aren't allergic.

[He shrugged. He wasn't, so it was all good.]

Hunk imagines himself to be something of a gour... gourmet? [He had a specific word for it that was similar, but Keith couldn't really be bothered to remember it right.] But he's really good at it, too. Like, he's been able to take alien ingredients we've never even encountered before, and turn them into something that actually tastes good.
    servantnotserving: (Teeny little waiter towel)

    [personal profile] servantnotserving 2017-04-02 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall make a note to try it, should I get taste buds again.

That is a skill to be really proud of. It is tricky enough to create delicious meals with ingredients you know well. You need to get them at the right season, in the right environments to make a truly perfect dish. To do that with alien foods is incredible.
tempredmental: (I Just Had a Thought!)

    [personal profile] tempredmental 2017-04-03 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Keith nodded. He'd always thought that about Hunk's abilities, but to hear someone else say it like that kind of made him feel proud for his friend.]

    Yeah, it's really something.

[He considered the statement about taste buds.]

You know... if the curse gets broken back home, wouldn't that apply to you here, too? So, you might still end up being human again even if you're here instead of home.
servantnotserving: (So look this will be easy)

    [personal profile] servantnotserving 2017-04-03 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's a very good point, and LumiƩre takes a moment to mull that over. If the curse continues to work here, billions upon billions of miles and light years away from home, it makes sense the breaking of it can work here, too. ]

You raise a good point, my friend! Perhaps it will be so, and I'll be human again before I know it.
    tempredmental: (Smiling Among the Stars)

    [personal profile] tempredmental 2017-04-04 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Keith smiled a little. Occasionally, he had good ideas and points, so he was kind of glad that worked out well.]

    Yeah.

    {OOC: Look like a good place to call it?}
