[Natasha doesn't often notice the stars. Sometimes it takes someone else to make her think to stop for a moment and take it in—look up and appreciate the view instead of just seeing the fact there's a vast stretch of space between her and anything she knows. Most effective prison walls she's ever seen.

But the most beautiful, too.

She doesn't rush to speak at first, waiting a few moments in thoughtful quiet before she finally speaks up:]

[ He's been assigned for a few days, but he hasn't really introduced himself fully to the crew. They tend to come and go at various hours, and he's got no issue keeping to himself until there is a better time. The hour is most definitely late, though there is no visible passing of days.

He misses the sun, but the stars? They're beautiful and serve as a reminder. He turns his head to look at whoever has decided to join him, humming softly. ]

Certainly not as vast as this one. This is.. extraordinary. I'm not familiar with any of these constellations.

That makes two of us. [Her arms fold over her chest as she considers the expanse of stars for another moment before lowering her gaze.]

As far as I know, no one in the fleet recognizes any of them. Which is probably intentional.

[ He sighs, shaking his head. ]

I can't say I'm not surprised. Why take us someplace we may recognize? Chance gives hope, and hope breeds motivation.

[She raises her chin, tilting her head as she answers.]

Oh, there's hope. There's always hope. But... even if we got away from the fleet, there's nothing to navigate home with.

Assuming home is even out there somewhere.

I suppose that is true enough, isn't it?

[ He looks back out to the stars for a moment, thoughtful. ]

If this place truly is what we're meant to believe, we're out of any of our own times. The thought, I will admit, is rather unsettling.

[ He's traveled through time before, it was less than fun. Seeing the future of what should pass if he fails? He certainly has motivation. ]

That much is probably true. Other details... more room for suspicion. But you can run into other people from home here, but from different points in the timeline.

[Among other complications.]

Or different timelines. You start getting used to it.

I have yet to run into any of them, but I try to remain optimistic. Perhaps it is best that I don't.

[ There are only a few of them who could possibly enjoy this situation. It's better that they are safe at Skyhold- though there is still no evidence that time is truly interrupted. ]

All depends on the context. It's hard to hope too hard for people you know to join you in prison though, isn't it?

[The conversation seems to have turned in a bittersweet direction quickly. Natasha offers a sympathetic smile and tries to course correct.]

How are you finding it so far?

As relieving as their presence would be, yes.

[ He considers the question with a glance around the bridge, then back out to the endless stars. ]

It is strange, but not terrible. All of this.. [ he makes a grand gesture to the ship, ] will take getting used to.

No one's going to try to rush you. Believe me, this is pretty shocking for most of us.

[Even those of them who came from more modern worlds.]

Only a few of us are from worlds with this kind of travel. And I know I'm not one of them.

How long have you been stuck here?

[ It does put a rest to the worry that there was a need to adapt quickly. He does take most things in stride, but all of this technology is a little unnerving. ]

Eight or nine months, something like that.

That's unfortunate, you have my sincerest apologies.

Don't be. I'm not. I'm not exactly happy about it, either, but... it just is what it is.

That is true enough. We cannot help the situations that come to us sometimes, though we can curse it in the moment.

We can. I try not to waste the energy on it. [She offers a little bit of a smile, as much for the stars as her newest shipmate.] It's not all bad.
