I know. I know we were running out of time - now at least.
[His hold on her hand tightens a fraction, squeezing only slightly for a moment. It was enough to convey just how helpless he still feels about that particular situation. In the end he was still being forced to go on without her. That seemed to be their destiny in all this.]
Yeah... I wish you could have gotten to meet them. The guys - they're pretty great.
[His free hand moves to the back of his head, almost as a mark of embarrassment at how sentimental he feels when talking about his friends. It hadn't been the easiest lately: Ignis was injured, Gladio was upset with him for his inability to make a move, and Prompto was completely helpless in the face of it all.
Sure, he'd talked to her about them in the book on occasion, sending pictures and telling her about how Ignis had tried to replicate the pastry from Tenebrae, but telling stories didn't do justice to it. They were his brothers, as Cid had so eloquently put it.]
What's it been like...? Being here. If you're not- if you're gone back home, how is it possible you're here? It's not like this is some kind of afterlife or something.
[At least he doesn't feel dead, though he really had thought he'd freeze to death when confronted with the Glacean.]

[ She trails off, because she wishes she could have done so much more than what she'd done. But she can't go back and fix things or change them, neither one of them can. All they can do is move forward; at the very least, he's not completely alone in his journey and that's something she's grateful for.
His grip tightens, and she knows. She knows that he hasn't had a chance to properly mourn -- not for Insomnia and his people, not for his father, and now not for her. Noctis hasn't had a break in all of this, and he probably won't get one for a while until everything is over. Her hope for him is a bright future full of love and life, because if anyone deserves it it's him. ]
I wanted to meet them, too... I always enjoyed the stories and pictures you would send me. [ She smiles fondly, recalling the words written on their shared pages. She'd read over them enough time she's pretty sure she's got every last letter and word memorized at this point. ] It brings me great comfort and joy to know that you have them. They all seem wonderful. I especially wanted to meet Prompto.
[ She's had dealings with the blond before, after all, when he'd helped Pryna. She pushes that thought away for a moment, focusing instead on his question. She's got no idea how any of this is possible, but right now she's grateful that the Gods have seen fit to pull her from the afterlife and into this crazy place, especially now that Noctis is here, too. ]
It has been a bit of a challenge adjusting, but everyone is very nice and extremely helpful. I've no idea how it's possible, because I was in the beyond. I remember that very clearly. When I woke up here, I was in the same dress I was wearing that day in Altissia, except I had no wounds and... I don't know how to explain it. I've only got one scar from that day out of everything.
[ She doesn't understand any of it, how this place works or why anyone is here, but she's not going to look a gift horse in the mouth either. She squeezes his hand reassuringly again, lips curling up into another smile. ]
Do you know something wonderful about this place, though? Not a single soul here knows who we are. Right now, you and I are just normal people... we are not King and Oracle. We are just Noctis and Luna.
[ And that's something she can appreciate, not having the weight of the world on her shoulders and something to worry about all the time. No one calls her princess here, no one even thinks of her as royalty or treats her as such and she's glad. ]

Must be nice - not having people put so many expectations on you for a change. Getting to just be here and just be.
[He honestly would have liked that back home but with the need for her to keep awakening the Six for him and for him on his whole save-the-world quest - well, they really had no future together that spelled out anything remotely normal.]
I think I could get behind that. This place isn't bad either - no daemons, that I can tell, no Imperial soldiers.
[And the thought occurs to him - they could do whatever they want, right? Like some normal couple. If she wanted to, at least. He wasn't going to push that, at least. He was content with the two of them just being here together. No need to bring up their arranged marriage (did it even count as an arranged marriage when both parties were so agreeable to the match?) or any of their political obligations back home.]
What do you do? I mean... we're practically free to live how we want. What would you even begin to do with that?
[Part of him may be hoping that since the two of them are together she might choose to spend this newfound freedom they both had with him.]

[ It's been nice, because it's almost as if she's been given the chance to just start all over again. She's sure that even though it's peaceful now there will be times of crisis even here, but that's something she can handle and live with. She's pretty sure that if they can handle the situation at home, they can handle almost anything that pops up here, too. ]
It's good to hear you say that. I've yet to see daemons as well, and I can say for a fact that there are no traces of the Empire here. That isn't to say they couldn't show up, of course... but for now, there is none.
[ It's a concern of hers, of course, that Ardyn could show up. If she can be pulled from the dead, if Noctis can be stolen from his quest... yes, there's a good chance that someone unsavory from home could also eventually be dragged here. But she'd rather not dwell on that for now.
She hums a little at his question, tilting her head slightly in thought. ]
The place we are currently docked in has sick people. I've been doing what I can to help and take care of them. [ That much hasn't changed from home -- her powers are useless here because the inhabitants of this particular planet are not affected by the Starscourge. But she can at least offer a hand to hold and kind words.
Her smile widens, though, as she peers up at him to meet his gaze. ]
We are very free to live how we want here, yes. The only true obligations we've been given are those of our assigned tasks aboard the ships. With this in mind, I believe that you and I have twelve years that desperately need catching up on. As much as I enjoyed our journal, I think I'm going to enjoy spending time with you instead of just through pen and paper. If you'll have me, that is.
[ She doesn't want to step on his toes or get in his way, of course, but she most definitely wants to stay at his side. She can only hope he'll want her to do just that and allow her to do so. The last time she'd seen her elder brother, she'd been in hysterical tears after he'd denied her request to deliver the Ring to Noctis for her, but he'd told her to show Noctis the truth of her heart.
She's not sure how her King feels about her, at least in that aspect, but she knows that her own feelings for him will never change. Silently, she asks her brother for forgiveness because she doesn't have the courage just yet to spill to Noctis how she really feels. There's a time and place for everything, after all. Soon. ]

[He holds up their joined hands, feeling as if her smile is contagious. He doesn't exactly showcase his emotions so easily in front of others, but Luna definitely had earned a smile in return.]
It's still good that you're finding a place here.
[What would he even do here? He's not able to help these people any more than she is, but he wouldn't mind trying to help her in helping them. That, he could do. Even if it was something small like granting her wish to spend time together.]
I, uh, I wish things hadn't been such a mess back home... I wouldn't have hated spending time with you then too.
[He tries to think of what exactly he wants to say here, to get off his chest. All he can think of is that little girl in Gralea asking how he'd felt about their engagement, telling him about Luna's worries that she was a burden to him.]
Maybe we could fix that now? Since we have the time.
[He smiles a bit, thinking this place might even be perfect. Even if it was just them sitting around catching fish
even if it's illegal here, Noctisor catching up.]this is too cute i think i'm gonna die <3 <3 <3
[ When Noctis smiles, it makes a warm, pleasant feeling spread through her chest. She's only ever really wanted for him to be happy, and to see him smiling like that... now she knows that she has a new purpose here. To make him smile as much as she can, because after everything he's had to deal with at home, more than anyone Noctis deserves happiness.
She also thinks that their hands look nice like this, that they fit perfectly together and she's not sure if she ever really wants to let go of his hand period, even though she knows it's not physically possible to remain like this forever. Even still, she reaches to lightly take his other hand as well, slipping her fingers between his as her smile widens even further. ]
I'm trying... admittedly, I feel that most of the time I mostly get in the way. But no one has complained yet, so I have been fortunate in that aspect. Everyone that I have met so far has been extremely kind and welcoming.
[ Of course, she's got a new job now too -- to be at Noctis' side as often as he'll let her be. They've got a lot to catch up on, after all, and there's still that tiny shred of fear within her that they'll be ripped apart again. ]
I wish that had been the case, too. I would have loved to have been able to be with you at home.
[ She internally cringes at her own words, because she knows that probably came out wrong, but she's not going to try and stumble over them to attempt to fix it and make it sound... well, better, and so she decides to just go with it. ]
I... I also want to apologize for everything at home as well. For the Empire springing a surprise wedding on you, for Insomnia... for everything. I would give anything to go back in time and fix everything for you so that you would not have to be in such a situation. I know the weight of the world is on your shoulders right now, and if it were in my power I would do anything and everything to make things right again. I just... want very much for you to be happy, Noctis.
[ She would, too, if she could. To be able to go back in time and beg Regis to ignore the 'treaty' of peace, to not give up. To hide the prince and his friends until things smoothed over... but she can't go back in time and do those things, as much as she wishes she could.
His next words drag her away from her weighty train of thoughts, and she looks up at him again, realizing suddenly just how tall he'd grown over the last twelve years. When they were children, she was the one having to bend down slightly to be more at his height... now he's taller than she is, even while she's wearing heels, and the thought is suddenly extremely amusing. ]
I would love nothing more than to do just that. I want to hear all about your friends and your life, just... everything, really. Being here with you is a blessing and time that I do not wish to put to waste.
[ She smiles again as well, fighting the urge to shift nervously as she suddenly leans up on her toes and presses a light kiss against his cheek. ]
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to spend time with you, Noctis.
Noctis is so awkward Luna how do you put up with him xD
[He might be talking about more than just this place. Still, he listens to her just get her feelings out. He knows it must have been hard for her too: to be separated, to be only able to do so much with what time she had, and desperately wishing they could go back to when they had been children who could laugh and play together. Her apologizing to him was almost the icing on the cake. It was funny how the two of them couldn't help but blame themselves when everything about their situation made them both victims of circumstance.]
Luna, you- [Her leaning up to kiss his cheek surprised him, but his hands move instinctively to her sides to steady her. He wanted to reciprocate and worried still he might be pushing his luck. She had wanted the engagement too, hadn't she? ]
It was a surprise. All of it just happened so fast, but... Luna, I didn't just agree because of some peace treaty. I agreed because it was you.
[Pushing down his embarrassment, he wraps one arm loosely around her waist. He wanted to explain himself properly and also make some attempt at being comfortable and confident enough to show her physically that he wasn't put off by their engagement.]
I meant what I said at that time, you know. All I wanted to do was to save you. I wanted to get you away from the Empire, no matter what it took, but I wasn't strong enough to do that. Neither of us needs to apologize for anything here, though. Things might be a mess, but being able to see you again and know that maybe I get a chance to actually follow through - that makes me happy.
[And, almost as if realizing he's making quite the public display of himself, he lowers his arm back to his side and avoids direct eye contact.]
We've got time now. We can catch up, right?
[Awkwardly, he runs his fingers through his hair at the back of his head, ruffling it slightly.]
Maybe you can show me around... we could sit and get something to eat. Just hang out or something.
Noctis is the cutest dork she knows ok :>
[ She does pray to the Six that something can be done, because seeing people suffering and not being able to do anything about it hurts her, too. She's heard stories from mothers who have lost their children to whatever god forsaken disease this is, have held the hands of those sick and dying to try and provide at least a little comfort, to take away the fear of death and instill a sense of peace within them, as much as she can in such a situation.
When his hands move to her sides, and then she feels his arm around her waist, she can feel her cheeks heating up. They're not children anymore, after all, they were adults and had things not gone completely to hell at home, they'd be married right now. It's still a pleasant thing to think about, to be married to Noctis and to be held by him all the time, to be able to hold him in return.
The mere thought has her blush deepening, and she lightly rests her head against his shoulder for a moment to hide that little detail from him as she listens to his words. ]
Your kindness never ceases to amaze me, Noctis... I... had very much looked forward to being your wife. [ Her voice is slightly muffled against the poor man's shoulder as she struggles to get control over the heat in her cheeks again, but she finally forces herself to lift her head once more so that she can properly look up at him again. ]
But you did save me... and continue to do so by fulfilling your duty, as hard as it might be. [ Still, she knows it's time to drop that subject now. They can talk about duty and things about home later, after all. ] I'm happy to be able to have this time with you as well. Being here with you right now... I cannot even begin to put into words how happy it makes me.
[ She doesn't protest when he lets her go, though, as disappointed as she inwardly is to lose the contact. She won't push him, after all, and she merely nods her head. ]
Of course we can. [ Humming, she moves to stand at his side instead, looping an arm through one of his with a playful smile, hoping to lighten the mood once more. ] Come, we can walk and talk... I'm positive that there are far more interesting things to look at.
no subject
[And everything she's done for him has been more than enough. She'd spent her life helping sick and dying people infected with the starscourge. Selfishly, he thought maybe she deserved to have this small bit of a normal life, even if nothing about either of them was really normal by any specific standards.
He isn't quite sure how to articulate the rest of how he feels, but he's fine with just holding onto her even for a moment. Feeling her resting against his shoulder, trying to hide how embarrassed she is.. it reminded him of himself. They were always on the same page, it seemed. He didn't need to say much to know she understood, or so he hoped. Part of him wished he could do more, but this was enough. They weren't rushing off to get married or save the world any time soon. Going at a smoother pace wasn't so bad either, when it came down to it. They'd never had the opportunity before now. Doing something normal like linking their arms together and walking together side by side was fine by him.
It was almost as if they were going on a date.]
You know - they really like seafood around here. It's not the same as the stuff Ignis makes, but I bet it'd be good? What do you think?
[Sure the subject was shifting to something lighter, but he was glad they could just have something normal and mundane to talk about. Her skin was warm to the touch and somehow he felt hyper aware of it, having their arms linked together like this. He shifts slightly, holding her hand in his, as she'd done so on her own before.]
no subject
[ She wishes she could honestly agree with that, but she can't. In her mind, there's always more to be done, more that COULD be done, but she keeps that to herself. Right now, she has no idea what else she can do for the citizens of this planet, and so what little she's able to do will have to be enough for now.
This is honestly like a dream still to her -- just the fact that Noctis is here, and they are chatting and walking together still seems unreal. She's been fighting the urge to childishly pinch her own arm to make sure that this is actually happening, that she's not going to wake up and be disappointed. That urge is quelled, though, when he takes her hand again, and she's quick to wrap her fingers around his once more as well. ]
Ignis is practically a master chef, isn't he? [ She peers up at him as they walk along, recalling very much from one of Noctis' many letters that Ignis had been attempting to recreate those pastries from so many years ago... not that Luna had been of much help, because she had no idea what went in them as well. ]
I think it would be delicious. From what I recall, there is a restaurant not that far from here, if you'd like to try it.
[ She can only imagine that right now, they look like the most normal couple in the world, just like any other couple at least. No one is giggling or giving them looks... as a matter of fact, no one is really paying much attention to them at all. If this is what being normal feels like, she's not sure she ever wants to go back to the way things had been before.
Having Noctis at her side is another feeling she can most certainly get used to, and quick at that. She enjoys how they've been able to easily just fall into step and let the chips fall where they may, as though twelve years haven't come and gone, as if this is just an every day thing and they've been together this whole time. ]
Perhaps it's a good thing the specialty here is seafood... if memory serves me correctly, I remember that you are not fond of vegetables.
[ She sounds amused at the thought of a plate of vegetables being placed in front of poor Noctis, and she nudges him playfully, not even bothering to hide her humor. ] Or perhaps we can find one that even you will enjoy?
no subject
[Since she brought it up, he's going to pout just a little. Darn it he can't believe she remembers things like this about him-!!]
Besides - I got taller than you, didn't I? Guess I didn't need them that bad.
[His free hand rests above her head, closer to his actual height, as if to demonstrate that, yes, he is in fact taller than Luna. Once his point is made, it goes to his empty pocket while the two of them walk together in the direction she leads them. Subtly, his uses his elbow to nudge her right back, smiling a bit more. Dare he say he hadn't felt this light and happy in such a long time that he was beginning to wonder when the other shoe might drop. Was this even real? He wanted it to be. It was too good to be true.]
no subject
[ And somehow this vegetable thing has become a challenge now. Except she's got no idea how to cook to save her life... but now she's determined. This is a huge galaxy, and so help her they will find ONE vegetable he likes.
A brow arches up as he gestures to the height difference, and she tilts her head slightly, as though considering this fact. ]
This is true. But how long did it take for you to get so tall, hm? Perhaps you would have grown faster and even taller had you eaten a vegetable or two.
[ No matter what world or universe he's in, Noctis will never escape vegetables. She laughs as he nudges her in return, and she feigns a huff, using her own free hand to place itself dramatically against her cheek, but she's not even attempting to hide her smile at this point. ]
You know what must happen now, don't you? I will have to purchase taller high heels. Or perhaps a step ladder... it simply isn't fair. The last time we were face to face, you were at least three inches shorter than myself.
no subject
You know, all I have to do is lean a bit and we'd be eye to eye.
[Which he does so, only to realize leaning in close to her like this was just too intimate for their current confusion over their relationship status. Leaning in like this made it so they were close enough to kiss, should either of them choose to do so.]
no subject
True enough. Even still, would that not hurt your back from leaning all the time?
[ When he actually demonstrates, she can feel her cheeks heating up again, because this is... definitely the closest they've ever been. It wouldn't take much just to close the gap between them, she notes, and if she had the courage to do so, she would. But she doesn't want to push her luck with him, or worse yet make him shy away, and so she flashes him another smile despite her inner nervousness as yet another kiss is quickly pressed against his cheek, although it is pressed closer to the corner of his lips this time around. ]
You can't walk hunched over all the time, you know.
no subject
[His heart skips a beat when she kisses his cheek again, this time closer to his lips. For a moment he thought she'd actually go for it, but then he couldn't help but remind himself that Luna was definitely better behaved than him in that regard. Or at least he thought. Her kissing him and touching him definitely made him look like the more shy of the two.
Nerves making him more restless didn't help as he reached to tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear. He didn't take his gaze away from hers and damned if he wasn't sensing the mood right now to be a little more than just the two of them being playful with one another. The best he can muster is his own kiss, pressing his lips against her forehead before straightening again. He hadn't wanted to pull away and that might be more obvious by the fact that he lingered for a moment longer when compared to her chaste kisses.]
I know we keep apologizing, but I'm sorry. It had to have been hard on you too, right? Waiting around for me to hurry the hell up and be a King already.
[He hadn't gotten there yet, but he might actually try now that a part of him was at ease with knowing she was okay. It still hurt more than words could do justice but she was here and he was here. They didn't have to worry about all of that other stuff.]
no subject
[ She's got a nice view to look up at, after all. Her smile widens as he tucks a piece of her hair behind her ear, and she finds that she can't really take her gaze off of his, even as he leans in further to kiss her forehead. It takes her a split second to remember that breathing is a thing she needs to do, and she's not exactly wanting him to move away just yet either, so when he does start to pull back she's quick to lean up to press her own forehead to his, her free hand resting against his cheek again. ]
Noctis... there was no waiting. You were, and still are, already a King in my eyes. Everything takes time... the hardest part for me was not being able to do more to help you, and not being able to stay by your side. There was never any doubt in my mind you would take your rightful place.
[ Her eyes have yet to leave his, and as playful as they've been, she's serious about what she's saying. She believes in him and knows that when the time is right, he'll do what needs to be done. She lets her thumb slide across his cheek gently, before she finally, slowly, pulls away to allow him his space again. ]
You need never apologize for anything. You are perfect the way you are, and no matter what you or anyone else thinks, you are most certainly a king. You are my King.
no subject
Sure, they were playful with one another and trying to get on some sort of even ground, but part of him wanted to throw all of that out the window in this moment. He felt as if his heart might stop beating when her thumb brushed across his cheek. This was the girl he imagined being completely, blissfully, happy with in marriage for the rest of their lives. Sure, he wasn't so sure he was the best choice as far as guys - he was a picky eater, he liked video games far too much, and he napped like nobody's business - but she chose him and was choosing him, arranged marriage aside.
Before she can pull too far away, his hands slide up her arms, one of them making the rest of the journey to the side of her face to cup her cheek. He felt like he was starving for air and in his mind the only logical thing seemed to be to bring her on his level and make her feel the same too. Impulsively, his lips press against hers. For all she knows he hadn't heard half of what she was saying because he was too busy staring at her face, drinking in those soft yet stern features while she tried to reassure him. That had made him want to kiss her, more than anything.
So much for trying to find some sort of direction to their relationship.]
no subject
This has been a long time coming, after all, and she's not going to waste this opportunity. His kiss is enough to tell her what she's been wondering to herself this whole time as well; he feels the same way as she does, at least she thinks he does -- it gets her hopes high and makes her feel as though there is no wrong in the world so long as she's with him.
That thought, along with his touch and kiss, is enough to send a pleasant shiver crawling up her spine -- if it were up to her, she'd stay like this forever, because right now all is right in the universe. It's only when she hears another couple who are passing them start giggling at them that she's dragged back to the realm of reality, and very slowly she pulls her lips away from his, but she doesn't go far, smiling happily and burying her face into the crook of his neck as she struggles to think of something that doesn't sound absolutely stupid to say. ]
Wow. [ Because that's not stupid, right? She doesn't mind, though, as she absently continues to play with his hair and trying to ignore how breathless she sounds when she speaks. ]
...You're wonderful, you know.
no subject
[He'll take it. He can still feel her lips on his, marking him with a sensation that lingered like little sparks against his mouth. What had they been about to do before? His brain can't quite catch up because he feels like he's floating, but at the same time there's a sense of grief that still lingers. If he'd saved her they'd have been able to do silly impulsive things like this back home, right?
Even so, his arms are around her torso, though he still keeps his hands to himself. He's able to hold her close like this now, able to close and open his eyes again and have her still be here. He doesn't want to take that for granted. He can ignore giggling couples, as much as it makes him feel like denying anything intimate was going on out of embarrassment, because Luna is here and she kissed him back just as earnestly.]
Sorry if I, uh... if you want this to slow down I'm fine with that. I just feel like I'm kind of making up for the last week or so.
[Making up for the time he's spent struggling to sleep and struggling to reconcile that she's gone and no longer able to send him notes in their book or talk to him in that sweet voice of hers. Their home had hyped up this whole wedding thing, sure, but the feelings behind it were real for the both of them.]
no subject
[ She's glad for this, for the fact that he's not letting her go just yet or stammering to make excuses to the people around them. As per usual, Noctis is so very genuine, only this time it's not pen to paper but instead up close and personal. She can't really remember the last time she'd been so happy -- the past few weeks before her passing it seemed like she'd done nothing but be sick and cry. She hadn't been able to find as much joy or happiness lately, mostly because she knew that her time was limited and things were spiraling out of her control. She wasn't sad about her inevitable death, though... she was sad for Noctis, because she'd known that it was going to hit him hard. She'd been sad for her brother, too... they didn't see eye to eye, but she loved her elder brother and knew that though he was encouraging her to continue on, he didn't really want her to.
As cold as Ravus could be, she knows he loves her just as much as she loves him, too.
Noctis' words have her humming and lifting her head again, her content smile still blissfully in tact as she leans in to lightly press her lips against his again, allowing the contact to linger just long enough to let him know that she is, in fact, perfectly fine with this, and that he doesn't need to worry or be nervous. She lightly pulls away but remains close, her eyes practically sparkling with the happiness that she's feeling right now. ]
I don't think you understand how happy you've just made me... but you've nothing to make up for. I'm just glad that you are here. I know that you are needed at home as well, so please forgive me for being so selfish.
[ But really, while she's got the chance, she definitely wants to keep him all to herself, even if it's just for a little while. ]
no subject
[Because damn it every time her lips touch his he feels as if everything else could very well melt away. Just as she lingers, when she tries to pull away he follows, going in for another kiss. It was more than he could have dreamed of, to have a chance to be with her again.]
I mean... sure. Everything back there is important but I'm thinking it might be a while before we figure out how to get back there, right?
[Yup. Definitely still distracted by the kissing thing. Forget going to eat food or people gawking at them. He'd gone from swimming in grief to feeling like he was floating in the clouds. Let him float a little longer. Duties be damned.]
We'll figure it all out. I promise.
[And he's not exactly in any rush to go where she won't be.]
no subject
[ She's not being very responsible right now and she knows it -- her job is to inspire Noctis to continue on his journey after all, but she's kind of doing the exact opposite right now. To be fair, though, it's not like he could go gallivanting off right now even if he wanted to. His kisses and touches are more than enough to push any thoughts of home or duties aside; as a matter of fact, as she meets him half way for yet another kiss, she could care less about what's happening at home right now. In her mind, all that matters is the here and now and him. ]
Agreed... we can worry about that later.
[ She can't quite recall the last time she felt so incredibly content, as though everything was right in the world. Everything is certainly right in this particular world, at least she thinks as she smiles against his lips.
