THE SUMMER TEST DRIVE MEME
(Or Winter Test Drive for you Southern Hemisphere folks!)

Got someone you want to try out before you app? Well this is the post for it! Feel free to use anything that fits in the setting of Drift Fleet! Want to play bumper shuttles? Want to go wild in a med bay? Play around with the current plot? Have at it!

Threads from the Test-Drive may be made game "canon" but DO NOT count toward AC!

FOR NEW PLAYERS: You DO NOT NEED an invite to participate in the TEST DRIVE! If you decide to APP into the game, ONLY THEN will you need an invite from a current player!

SPECIAL NOTE!
Since June is a special month in which we'll be breaking from the usual plot to bring back the calibrations plot, the Test Drive prompts will come in two flavors!

OPTION A: Standard Test Drive
Go ahead and treat the test drive as you normally would, using past plots or fleet locations as your setting! Here's some helpful info for some ideas.

OPTION B: Build-a-Calibration
If you'd like, you can use the info given about the Calibrations plot to design your own calibration room for any characters you want! Got a character you want to explore their inner psyche but isn't in the game yet? Go ahead and try it out! It can be a fully fleshed out room, or simply just a small part of it you'd like to play with.

Alternatively for any characters that are in the game, you can use this as a chance to either iron out, brainstorm, or test run any components of your calibration before the actual plot starts! We don't recommend posting the entirety of your calibration in this meme (as you'll have nothing new to post come plot time), but this can be a good chance to test out any parts to make sure they work how you desire.

Test drives are posted SEASONALLY, so the next one will be in September!

Yeah, I do. [Mostly because he's... pretty sure he heard news of Henry's son dying. But honestly, in a place where they get to visit other planets this isn't so far out. Weird, definitely, but not impossible.]

It's been pretty interesting. Are all the planets this... [He looks around, trying to find the right word. Looks at the turtles, at the water, at the corals and all the sea plants moving...] ...beautiful?

I hope so. I ain't seen this one before; last month we were at an asteroid and it was real barren. These animals are wonderful, though!

[Well. A barren asteroid doesn't exactly sound welcoming, but maybe Thomas just got really lucky with this planet. But the thought that it won't always be this beautiful takes a bit out of his enjoyment. Still, he decides to focus on the good things.]

They are, aren't they? I'd study them for hours if I could. What are you doing with that apparatus, though?

Takin' a photograph. [He pulls out the comm and offers it to Thomas -- assuming it's like a smart phone, in this case.] See? Even though the turtle's gone I still can draw it when I get back on ship, I got a picture of it.

[Thomas had no idea cameras could be so… small, quick and efficient. It looks like a portrait. But even though he’s been here a very short time, he’s seen so many new things already he’s learned to just roll with it and figure out how everything works, later on.]

Those are beautiful! I wish I had known before, I’d have taken a lot of pictures myself. [He glances at John.] Did you say draw?

[unbridles]

[He looks a little embarrassed, but nods.] Yeah. It ain't much more'n doodles, but --I like doin' it.

We all got our hobbies. [Thomas has like, 20 hobbies at once every time so he's definitely not going to judge John for liking to draw.

Figure you can't really draw in here though. Maybe you can show me when we get back to the ship?

Oh, yeah, I got a notebook back onboard. You can look at it whenever you like, just gotta come find me. [For the sake of easiness, assuming they're shipmates.]

I'd like that. [A bit of a grin. He only heard a few things here and there about John Laurens, so he has no reason to think they can't get along. And he can already tell people that recognize him are going to be a rare thing in this place, so he might as well befriend the ones that do.]

I draw, as well, but nothing artistic. Mostly buildings, really.

I like drawin' plants and animals, mostly, but I'll sketch pretty much anything. [His notebook, actually, has more than a few pictures of Alexander in it.]

Now I definitely gotta see that notebook of yours.

[Thomas grins, the kind of grin he always gets when something has caught his full interest. It's not a weird occurrence, to be honest. What's weirder is that things hold his attention for long.

He's probably gonna have a rude awakening when he sees all the Alex doodles.]

Well, we could head back to the ship right now if you wanna. We can always come back here later. [Yeah, enjoy those, Thomas. ....Well, he'll probably enjoy the flowers and animals, at least.]

[He hesitates for a moment as he looks around, because there's just so much to see. So much to investigate. But he figures he can always come back later, and it's always good to have an ally. Particularly one that actually knows who he is, a little.

He grins at John.]

Sure, let's do that?
