(Or Winter Test Drive for you Southern Hemisphere folks!)

Got someone you want to try out before you app? Well this is the post for it! Feel free to use anything that fits in the setting of Drift Fleet! Want to play bumper shuttles? Want to go wild in a med bay? Play around with the current plot? Have at it!

Threads from the Test-Drive may be made game "canon" but DO NOT count toward AC!

FOR NEW PLAYERS: You DO NOT NEED an invite to participate in the TEST DRIVE! If you decide to APP into the game, ONLY THEN will you need an invite from a current player!

SPECIAL NOTE!
Since June is a special month in which we'll be breaking from the usual plot to bring back the calibrations plot, the Test Drive prompts will come in two flavors!

Go ahead and treat the test drive as you normally would, using past plots or fleet locations as your setting! Here's some helpful info for some ideas.

OPTION B: Build-a-Calibration
If you'd like, you can use the info given about the Calibrations plot to design your own calibration room for any characters you want! Got a character you want to explore their inner psyche but isn't in the game yet? Go ahead and try it out! It can be a fully fleshed out room, or simply just a small part of it you'd like to play with.

Alternatively for any characters that are in the game, you can use this as a chance to either iron out, brainstorm, or test run any components of your calibration before the actual plot starts! We don't recommend posting the entirety of your calibration in this meme (as you'll have nothing new to post come plot time), but this can be a good chance to test out any parts to make sure they work how you desire.

Test drives are posted SEASONALLY, so the next one will be in September!

[Someone seems to be having the time of his life in Mafik, the water planet.

Granted, this entire situation is… a bit too much out of his control for his liking and if he pauses a moment to think about it he wants nothing more than to barricade himself somewhere and pretend none of this is happening. But as it is, this is actually really damn cool. He understands going through decontamination- he appreciates it, really, a good idea to take care of your local flora and fauna. But once the floor opens all bets are off.

You can find a really excited Thomas just swimming all over, exploring everything he can gets his hands off. The water, the wild life, he seems to be taking mental note of everything (since anything he can use to write would definitely not work underwater). He even goes explore the depths a little bit… but he really can’t find a way in.

And, of course, shopping. All the shopping. May-need-help-carrying-all-of-this kind of shopping.]

[John has been here for some time now. Time enough to get used to the communicators, which he is using to take pictures of various creatures! Man, this modern technology is so cool. He'll probably draw them later when he gets back aboard ship, but for now he's following around a turtle, taking as many pictures as he can.]

[Jennifer Goines has always had a relationship with time, but space...well, even with time and space's natural connection, this is new. Really, really new. She can be found wandering around her assigned ship with a frantic sort of intensity, trying to figure this shit out.]

Oops. I think I splintered sideways.

B.) Asteroid art

[Art. Art is her favorite outlet. Honestly, it's a favored outlet of a lot of people like her. So as soon as she finds the art scene in the asteroid system she buys as many supplies as she can afford. Soon she's found herself a nice blank wall and she starts to paint. Obsessively.

It's not long before the wall is covered in monkey faces and ouroboros symbols. She's currently working on a particularly large serpent tail, and sort of muttering to herself.]

C.) Musicality

[Performance is great. Performance is awesome. And music is a great stress reliever. So, look, she can't resist. She's given this opportunity and she's going to take it.

It's time to rock out.

Is it a good performance? Well, in her head it sure as hell is. But it's hard to know what other people will think. But, hey, at least she's having a good time, right?]

Which is why it's so freakin' weird to see someone painting in the middle of space of all things.

Especially such weird stuff as snakes and monkey faces. He stops behind the artist, sticking his hands in his pockets as he stares up at the...whatever this is (graffiti? mural?) and lets out a low whistle.]

Man, Yusuke would probably love this.

[ Rose has been here for a few hours now. Truth is, she spent a great deal of time upon first waking up scouring the entirety of the Hospitality Deck for anything even remotely useful. Of course, that pretty much resulted in big ol' goose egg nada, so she then spent some time trying to get her bearings and collect her thoughts... trying not to scream... you know...

And now? she's finally spotted the communication device, and she turns it on with surprisingly little effort. (??? weird, not like she's seen something like this before.) And hey, it's recording! Not that she's noticed. She makes a scrunched-nose face at first, squinting, trying to puzzle what exactly is going on, and then "Hmmmm..."s thoughtfully as she taps her chin with the hand not holding the thing up. ]

[Duo was having a bit too much fun racing ATVs around. In fact, he was just going to walk his way over to random people who looked like they were into the idea of racing, and challenge them. Will you accept?

[Having built up enough credits, Duo was enjoying a nice meal on the Iskaulit at The Melting Pot. There was an open seat at his table, and he was willing to share! Provided you didn't touch his mac & cheese. That said, there was a large amount of food on the table, as if he was spoiling himself or something. Quite the variety... mac & cheese, pizza, shepard's pie... looks yummy.]

[Being a little bit of a thrill seeker, Duo was enjoying riding the shuttles up and diving out into the water below. It was actually pretty epic and breath-taking. Either he was now climbing into your little dive craft to hitch a ride up, or he was offering you a ride in his own. Who can dive faster?

Or were you watching from the sidelines and curious about who he was? Duo was pretty friendly and talkative. He'd talk to anyone who seemed nice.]

[ For all of her frustration, Gwen was definitely working hard at keeping things maintained on the ship. Having a engineering augment was one thing, but with her natural tendency for technology as well as curious intuition, Gwen had fit right in. It reminded her that aliens were a thing, and she should really stop scanning them.

However, getting close to someone not of Earth will have the Omnitrix on her wrist leap to life and begin a scanning sequence. ]

2. Melting Pot

[ It was either cook, or starve. And considering Grandpa Max's tendency towards food was more akin to giving a angry swede viking a kitchen, Gwen was quick to produce food for people.

Right now, she was settling down with a slightly halfway done greek salad and if she notices you over there, she'll wave to you. ]

So I gotta know something. We're on a ship, out in space. Currently for the entertainment of an alien race, right out of the weirdo zone. So I need to know if anyone has heard of the Plumbers yet.

I know it's a weird name, but the Plumbers are an intergalactic police force.

In any case, if someone could call Max Tennyson, if its even possible, let him know I'm uh, indisposed for a while and I dunno when I'll get back. Even the dweeb must be worrying about me, considering he keeps yapping on about Vilgax and stuff.

And that's not an invitation for Vilgax to suddenly come pay me a visit. Really. I'm 100% totally fine with that.

[Gil doesn't need a lot of explaining to understand his situation. The whole 'waking up in a different galaxy' thing shouldn't feel like an old hat (considering he's only done it once before) and yet the whole thing seems almost boring in comparison to the traumatizing welcome Andromeda had had for everyone.]

Not that I'm complaining about no longer huddling in the dark waiting to die, but I did have plans back home. They were all on hold, of course, but they were still plans. [He looks around, but the motion is all for show. He's not actually expecting a response. Also, if someone pushes him about what his plans were they'll probably just get a noncommittal hand wave. Plans aren't actually his forte, no matter what he says.]

After a bit, she notices the communicator and activates it. Her skin is pale, flawless, and when she speaks her voice is almost like music already and she's gazing out the window for a moment.]

She isn't upset, taking in her new surroundings with a mixture of curiosity and bewilderment—if there's annoyance, it's minor and vanishes in a furrowed brow and incredulous smile as soon as her eyes fall on the bridge.]

What is this? [She reaches for one of the consoles without waiting for an answer, running a finger over one of the flashing lights.]

B. Iskaulit - Gym

[As soon as Diana hears about the gym, there's no question what her next stop will be. She's not entirely sure what she'll find—what does a training field even look like when it's on one of these monstrous ships?—but she's curious.

It is not something she has seen since she left Themyscira.

What she finds is interesting, most of the equipment understandable if unfamiliar.

She pokes at the superhuman heavy bag.]

C. Asteroid Life

[The bar is a rough one, located in one of the more lawless asteroids on the frontier.

Diana has heard that a nearby settlement has been harassed by bandits who come here to spend their money. The story came from a young family who told her about how their farm had been destroyed as a warning in a recent raid. The pair had been frightened, one of the young women carrying her arm in a sling, the other holding a small boy by the hand. Diana didn't second guess coming to investigate.

Now that she's here, though, she's not sure where to begin. Pushing back her hood, she scans the crowd.]

Well, not quite that long - he's felt he's been of some help and they've made good changes to some of the worlds they come too. But honestly, it's not the same. To proud, but in a different way from the lunks at their pool tables and nursing their beers (shut up and forget the fact he has one too).

Pushing away from his seat, he makes his way towards her, his usual smile falling into place oh so easily. ]</sub>

[Cue a very large and angry Klingon getting up from the floor, after seemingly falling over or being knocked unconscious. Worf unceremoniously picked himself up off the floor and instinctively went for his phaser or Klingon knives, his Mek'leth, but found none. He growled in annoyance but then noticed a glint of metal in the far corner of the room. His Mek'leth knives. He picked them up and sheathed them behind him, grateful they had only been displaced during transport. Now, to realise what the hell had just happened.

Had he been kidnapped by Jem'Hadar? Cardassians? Or worse, the Borg? If anyone entered the room he was in, he would kill them. What coward dared take him from Deep Space Nine?! He would surely demand an honourable fight with them. He still had his communicator on his chest, as he tapped it once.]

This is Lieutenant Commander Worf of the space station Deep Space Nine. If anyone can hear this I am stranded aboard an alien vessel alone. If anyone can hear me this is an urgent message.

[Perhaps there would be some sort of communications device on board the ship he could use.]

[ Throughout the past couple of months, Rick had lost count of the amount of times he woke up in a strange place with blurry or nearly non-existent memories of how he arrived there. Awaking in the current sterile room he found himself in not being any different. Low groan on his lips, Rick stumbled from the bed, wild eyes taking in all his surroundings.

He moved through the room, trying to find something, anything to give him insight. Trembling fingertips pressed all over the walls, tipping over things and shifting everything in sight. The quest only halted when he noticed a device out of the corner of his eye.

Quickly snatching for it, Rick had little trouble powering it up (oddly enough); a battered and worse for wear looking face met the broadcast. ]

What is this place? What's goin' on? [ A hard look filled his face as the reality of the situation washed over him. What happened? Blood, screams and sobbing filled his mind and the cold dread only worsened the longer time went on. ] Where's my group? [ They were his family and he couldn't leave them with such a monster. ] My kids. Where are my kids?

[ Looking down for a moment, he held the device tighter in his hand, knuckles turning white from the grip. ] Are the walkers contained?

[ Space travel never really occurred to Rick as a true possibility for his life but then again he never imagined any of the turns his life took before they happened. Letting out a breath, he walked along the ground (thankfully solid) and tried to take stock of everything.

Along the way, he stopped to help those who needed assistance or looked at all troubled.

Once a Sheriff Deputy always a Sheriff Deputy.

The longest pause in his trek being the sight of the glowing trees? Radiation? He still didn't trust anything and knew there were dangers lurking everywhere. He just needed to figure out the information and then form a plan.

Eventually, he made his way to get a drink and maybe just maybe pick up a guitar to see if he remembered playing. In his youth, he rebelled against playing the violin with the guitar; a secret only his younger brother knew at the time. ]

[ The voice that comes through the network is one that Carl honestly never thought he'd hear. Had hoped he'd never hear. Rick shouldn't be here, he should be at home with Judith. There's no real way to know for certain that time stops. What if they're all alone back home? Not that the group can't manage without his dad there, but they're certainly better for it.

He's working on repairing one of the faulty electric panels when it comes through, but immediately stops what he's doing and flips the feed on. When his face comes into view, he's in a very industrial-looking hallway, the lights a little more dim than they probably should be. ]

[Despite the whole 'fantasy elf wizard' look at Taako has going on (wizard hat, long ears, etc), he seems pretty comfortable using the network device; there's no fumbling or awkward angles that might be expected from someone who still uses gold pieces as currency. Instead, the camera is set at a good spot so his face is nicely illuminated, and he's sitting cross-legged on his bed in the Hospitality Desk of the Marsiva.]

So, kinda bummed about this whole kidnapping thing, could not have come at a worse time for cha boy, but I'm gonna guess that complaining won't get me anywhere, so let's cut to the chase.

[He holds up a finger, counting:]

One, all you chucklefucks who've been here longer have got to have some advice for getting those sweet ratings, and it'd just be rude to not share with the class. What are the creeps watching us into, if I'm stuck here I might as well enjoy it.

[Which means sucking up to the system, apparently, and he can do that.

He holds up a second finger.]

If anyone's seen a rowdy human fighter with sick sideburns or a shitty dwarf cleric, hit me up. I don't like, want them back, you can keep 'em, but it'd be super great to know where they're at.

[Now he's not quite sure with this technology, since he has no idea the appropriate way to end a broadcast, which means he just - turns off the feed.]

[Discovering the shitty dive bar aboard the Iskaulit is the best thing that's happened to Taako so far. He's had a hell of a week even before the whole space reality show thing, and there's a lot of new (old?) information that he needs to digest, meaning that a drink or several is all he's really been after.

He doesn't even care what the drink involves, his only request to the bartender is that it's strong, and then he finds himself a spot to sit, opening up his spellbook so he can start looking for a solution. He's about 99% sure he doesn't have a spell for this situation specifically, but maybe he'll be struck with some kind of inspiration.]

[The room, oddly enough, appears to be the kitchen of a spaceship, although it's.. nicer than those found in the fleet, the design is bright and clean, with a lot of silver accents, and the entire kitchen is well fitted out, with a comfortable dining table. The table is laden with food, savory dishes and sweet pastries set out on mismatched crockery, but everything looks delicious, and the smell is enticing.

There are two figures at the counter, heads bent together as if they're sharing some grand secret, though no one could be blamed for wondering if there's simply a mirror in the middle of the room; the two elves are so similar, down to the bright red robes they're both wearing. The only difference visible from a distance is that one of them is tricky to discern, almost like a magic eye image.

It's this figure who speaks first when someone enters the room, You've got company, bubbeleh.

Taako looks up, away from the other figure, and regards the new arrival with a hint of disdain.]

Hate to break the bad news, but the kitchen's super fucking closed, you better run along.

[ Nish has sharp eyes and a good nose, and a penchant for one drink this particular bar makes that tastes like the ocean. It's crowded this evening — she's on the stool next to Taako. ]

[ admittedly, Ren was expecting something more...impressive when he found himself on a space station headed for a planet.

Not that the settlements inside the asteroids weren't impressive, just... He'd imagined an actual planet, flush with greenery and life instead. That's how it was in the movies.

Nonetheless he's left the ships to look around. It's been...a long time since he's been around so many people, and dodging through all of them isn't so easy when some seem to want to stop and touch his ears or tail-- something he darts away quickly from before they can do. The problem is he's not really paying any mind to if he's bumping into people or not.

Later, he can be found eating. But it's not the roasted meat or veggies everyone else seems to be carrying around.

In fact, it looks like a raw heart.

Don't worry, it's an ung heart. ]

Despite the initial alarm at the sudden change of location, John would be lying to himself if he said that this situation wasn't both fascinating and incredible. Though he most certainly wasn't impressed with the notion that they were a 'reality show' for intergalactic entertainment. The communications specialist rubbed absently at the small bump behind his ear as he wandered the halls of the SS Iskaulit. The implant wasn't something he was fond of either.

The other thing that worried him deeply, was what would be happening back home with his family. He was confident that they would keep International Rescue going smoothly, but he still worried about them. Though he spent most of his time up in the satellite, he was accustomed to being connected to his family 24/7. This separation was strange for him and more than a little disconcerting.

The first chance he was able to, John left the confines of the small ship he was assigned to, so that he could explore this much bigger one. He had heard about various things that were located on it, and was interested enough to check it out. Besides, he was appreciative of the larger and quieter spaces. No, he wasn't claustrophobic - but he was still trying to get used to the idea of being in close quarters around a group of people constantly.

The Melting Pot

John had been surprised to find the small but cozy restaurant. He had heard about it in passing of course, but it was still a strange sight to see on a spaceship. He would be able to be found in a corner to people watch and enjoy a cheeseburger. It had been way too long since he had one. Every so often he would absently touch the inoperable holo-comm on his wrist, missing the connection with home.

Anti-grav chamber

It had taken a little bit of exploration and searching on his part - but it was to John's delight that he found an anti-grav chamber. If it was one thing he missed it was floating in Zero-G. The room was spacious, and it was easy enough to fiddle with the controls to enable the International Rescue dispatcher to float in peaceful quiet.

Areas outside the room retained their gravity, but as soon as anyone would step into the door of the chamber, they would start to drift. John always found Zero-G comforting and anyone would be able to find him having a light nap while floating in mid-air in the center of the space.

Later, he even found a soccer sized ball in one of the gym spaces. He would be back in the anti-grav chamber, drifting and smacking the ball against the wall, hitting it on the rebound. Hangball was always better with a partner...

( A ) APRIL/MAY STAR SYSTEM | TELLURIA

[ The great wide somewhere that Belle had always craved seemed to be being more than adequately filled in this very moment. After the small town she'd come from, the large, fast paced city of Telluria was almost overwhelming, her eyes wide as she tried to take it all in. She had never seen so many buildings, so many people, all shuffling about, not knowing one another's names or personal business. There was something lonely about it, in a way, but the excitement of something so fresh and new was enough to cause her heart to race and ignore the sadness that lingered for the people living in such crowded isolation.

She's made up her mind to explore everything, but some things don't change, and thus Belle is most likely found buried in books, either in a store or a library if she managed to find it, trying to learn as much as she can. The pile around her seems to almost be swallowing her, teetering just slightly, but hey. She's in her element. ]

( B ) INITIAL BROADCAST | VIDEO

[ She's been here for a while now, trying to sort of absorb this new, strange world. She feels like this could be a dream, but how could her brain come up with so much craziness as this? Besides, there are words she doesn't understand, and she's pretty sure that some of them are just plain made up on the spot. ]

I've read a few astronomical works, but I don't think any of them ever imagined all of this. It's... massive.

I guess I have a lot of questions, but firstly; what's a - [ Her nose scrunches as she tries to fathom what the words mean together, speaking them fairly slowly. ] - re - al - i - ty sh - ow?

[There's a dude in a nightclub, or rather there is a dude who previously was in a nightclub, but just got his ass kicked right the hell out for... oh it's a long list. Inciting arguments, inciting fights, inciting possible open rebellion against the local law enforcement- which even he's a little concerned by how easy that last one was. Point is, there's this 50-ish man in colonial-era clothes, and he's got one heck of a shiner that's starting to form.

He's also got a few things that are literally shining, bits of currency from the different asteroids, none of which are the same. He adds a new addition to the small pile, before squirreling away the whole mess somewhere underneath that black cloak of his. He takes a second to rest on the nearest building, the light of the paint making him squint, before he takes a few deep breaths and starts walking again.

Six bars down, a whole bunch to go, a wallet that needs cash, a collection that needs filling out, and a bunch of people who think a man like him can't fight. C'mon Telluria, show him what it's got.]

OPTION A: march star system

[ Aerith is, of course, instantly curious about the illness that the people of this planet are suffering and she goes on her way to see what she can do to help. Healing is second nature to her now and there's a warmth inside of her as she wanders around, leaning in here and there, learning and listening and basking in being part of the outside again. It's not that she was particularly against being part of the Lifestream, or that she was irreversibly upset with what had happened, but she knew there was more she could do here.

She wasn't just part of a Planet anymore; she was here, and alive, and breathing.

There's a sense of happiness and giddiness that comes from being around people again and it shows on her face the more she wanders - she can't seem to stop anywhere for too long, too enthralled with the idea of seeing and embracing everything. There's no real fear, not right now, because she feels as though, somewhere, someone is looking out for her. She just has to find him. ]

OPTION B: calibrations

[ The calibration room feels far bigger than it can possibly be - it's the center of a church, toned with greys on the outside and a wide circle of flowers in the middle, green and yellow and beautiful. Sitting amidst the flowers is a young girl, her hair plaited behind her and a pink ribbon sitting at the top. She moves around the flowers slowly, tending to them, careful with the soil and the roots, never doing anything that might really disturb them.

The flowers seem odd in the midst of the crumbling wreck of the church itself, but the girl doesn't seem to mind. If anything she seems more than happy to be going back and forth between the flowers in the shape of a circle, as if it's all routine to her now. She goes and sits and checks and repeats it, over and over, despite the monotony of it.

When she hears footsteps she frowns, turning her head to look at the visitor. ]

Don't step on the flowers, okay?

[Ahh... this is familiar. Zack walks down the center of the cathedral, between the broken pews, moving in a slow circle as he goes. He looks up to the ceiling - to the mended patch, to the rafters - and looks for the Angeal clone, but he's nowhere in sight.

[ There's nothing quite like being an Earth's Greatest Thief during an alien gold rush, it's the kind of thrill Parker could only dream of. Not that long ago, she'd pack up as much of the shiny stuff as she could possibly carry on her person, and get the hell out of dodge (granted, a little tricky considering her getaway spaceship moves at an unpredictable timing, but what's life without a few risks?). She has every intention of doing just that - when she runs into a farmer getting beaten up by one of those hoodlums she intends to burgle. A while ago, maybe she walks away, maybe she kicks the guy in his special place then walks away. But now...now she has to figure out how she runs him out of...the asteroid with just thievery.

Getting rid of his arsenal feels like a good first step. Working for that gang? Oops, your armory seems to be empty now - sorry! Had a similar idea about stopping them? It's pretty crowded in this vent, don't you think? Oops, did she get spotted? Almost like having intel and a team makes this job easier! Wanna give a girl a hand? Or, getting all these crates of arms up on the shuttle (to be disposed of in the void of space, she's really not into any of those ending up in her face. Arms dealing really isn't her cup of coffee!) is a lot of work, and while she's strong, from an outsider perspective she is pretty skinny-looking...offering help is only the gentlemanly/ladylike thing to do! ]

[ There's a lovely lady sitting at the bar, all on her lonesome, poking curiously at the dish set before her with a look of complete concentration. Does she like it? Does she hate it? She's not really sure herself. The bartender puts a shot in front of her, and she sniffs at the liquid curiously - new, or just odd? Who can tell in this place, right? - before giving it a curious sip, and finally downing it and putting the glass back down on the bar. ]

yeah, if he's sent back he's not going to be able to take all this stuff back with him, he's heard the whole shtick, but if they manage to break out scott would never forgive himself if he didn't at least try to bring back souvenirs for cassie from every system - or, at least the ones that have some funky looking toys.

[If you want to get to know a people's culture, Diana believes, start with their art. It always says much about them.

Diana finds solace in a local art gallery. It's no Louvre, but that atmosphere of quiet contemplation that could be found in such places back home exists here, too. She stands amongst the other visitors, admiring the paintings, sculptures and other artwork this world has produced. She finds it fascinating that their themes revolve around the sky and the symbols of freedom. These people seemed so grounded in their roots, but perhaps there is more to it than that.

And sky pirates. They're everywhere. She wonders if they're a kind of folk hero, or just a popular subject that would fade with time, like the Renaissance and its fascination with ancient Greek and Roman culture. So much to learn, so little time.

As she takes a step back, she realizes she's bumped into someone.]

[Diana wouldn't be Diana if she didn't go where help was needed, especially the kind of help that involves fighting. She's bereft of her weapons and shield, but, well, Diana's a weapon in and of herself

She doesn't look like much of a fighter, admittedly, in a slim trench coat and her hair hung loosely around her in curls. But she exudes a calm confidence as she walks through the streets. It's not long until she realizes she's being followed, someone having made her out for an easy mark.

Unfortunately for them, that's her plan.

Soon, more men appear, cutting off possible alternative routes. They corral her into an empty alleyway, no doubt to spring their trap. Diana stands in the middle and waits for the gang to appear. Judging by their clothes and weapons, they're the ones she's been asked to help put a stop to.

[If one happens to walk near that alley, they might hear sounds of a fight. Or perhaps they'll see some unfortunate gangster get sent flying down the alleyway, his back colliding with the wall of a building.
