Summer Test Drive! (Calibrations edition!)


THE SUMMER TEST DRIVE MEME
(Or Winter Test Drive for you Southern Hemisphere folks!)


Got someone you want to try out before you app? Well this is the post for it! Feel free to use anything that fits in the setting of Drift Fleet! Want to play bumper shuttles? Want to go wild in a med bay? Play around with the current plot? Have at it!

Threads from the Test-Drive may be made game "canon" but DO NOT count toward AC!

FOR NEW PLAYERS: You DO NOT NEED an invite to participate in the TEST DRIVE! If you decide to APP into the game, ONLY THEN will you need an invite from a current player!

SPECIAL NOTE!
Since June is a special month in which we'll be breaking from the usual plot to bring back the calibrations plot, the Test Drive prompts will come in two flavors!

OPTION A: Standard Test Drive
Go ahead and treat the test drive as you normally would, using past plots or fleet locations as your setting! Here's some helpful info for some ideas.

    OPTION B: Build-a-Calibration
    If you'd like, you can use the info given about the Calibrations plot to design your own calibration room for any characters you want! Got a character you want to explore their inner psyche but isn't in the game yet? Go ahead and try it out! It can be a fully fleshed out room, or simply just a small part of it you'd like to play with.

    Alternatively for any characters that are in the game, you can use this as a chance to either iron out, brainstorm, or test run any components of your calibration before the actual plot starts! We don't recommend posting the entirety of your calibration in this meme (as you'll have nothing new to post come plot time), but this can be a good chance to test out any parts to make sure they work how you desire.

    Test drives are posted SEASONALLY, so the next one will be in September!

    [ Rose is pretty stoked to get back into the swing of trading, buying, and selling things - just because she's in space doesn't mean she can't keep working! There are a few differences, of course, most of which involve interstellar accords and trade laws and blah blah blah, but she's getting the hang of it, she thinks. But also? Some things really do stay the same. And counterfeiting is definitely one of them.

    She takes the bowl from him, and she's already turning it over in her hands to find the signature as he's telling her to do so. Better safe than sorry, after all. Sure enough, it's ever so slightly wrong - a single stroke out of place, only noticeable to anyone pointedly looking. Good thing she is. ]

    And there we have it. [ Sigh. She hands the bowl back to him. ] Well, that's that, then. No deal. Time to break the news to the seller.

    He won't be happy. He might even ask you to talk about it elsewhere.

    [Dezel's posture is completely relaxed, but he isn't about to be caught off guard. He gets up and edges just a little closer, not close enough to invade her space but to let her know he's noticed something. He keeps his voice low and calm.]

    He has guards posted on the street behind us. I can hear them.

    [He lifts the brim of his hat slightly, showing off his teeth. He doesn't care for being outnumbered even if he can take a bunch of mooks. Violence is bad for maintaining a low profile.]

    What are you going to do?

    [ Her tone remains casual, with the usual bounce - unaffected. It wouldn't be the first time something like that's happened, after all.

    Just so it doesn't look too much like she's talking to herself, she lowers herself beside the crate, pretending like she's investigating - transportation inspection. Sure. She nods when Dezel mentions the guards, thanking him for the information without words while she takes a second to think consult her gut feelings... ]

    Hey, talk is cheap. I'll start there. And if that's not good enough, then I'll just have to put my foot down.

    [ And you know she means every implication of that. ]

    [There was a time where she would never have accepted advice over her shoulder from an invisible voice, but Rose has been tested by her duties as a Squire. She's journeyed around with these weirdos enough to see Dezel and perhaps work side by side without... panicking. He wouldn't be surprised if she was a little cold; he never told her he'd been there her whole life, never wanted her to feel like she wasn't strong enough to do these things on her own.

    But he is here, beside her, regardless. He lifts the brim of his hat.]

    Let's go, then.

    [He windsteps out of sight. He finds a better vantage point crouched on the corner of the roof. Dezel can feel out the pathways with his wind, hear all the conversation taking place, and he can intercept the merchant's bodyguards if they happen to come running.

    All that's left is for Rose to speak to the seller. And look, there he is.]
