Summer Test Drive! (Calibrations edition!)

THE SUMMER TEST DRIVE MEME
(Or Winter Test Drive for you Southern Hemisphere folks!)
Got someone you want to try out before you app? Well this is the post for it! Feel free to use anything that fits in the setting of Drift Fleet! Want to play bumper shuttles? Want to go wild in a med bay? Play around with the current plot? Have at it!
Threads from the Test-Drive may be made game "canon" but DO NOT count toward AC!
FOR NEW PLAYERS: You DO NOT NEED an invite to participate in the TEST DRIVE! If you decide to APP into the game, ONLY THEN will you need an invite from a current player!
SPECIAL NOTE!
Since June is a special month in which we'll be breaking from the usual plot to bring back the calibrations plot, the Test Drive prompts will come in two flavors!
OPTION A: Standard Test Drive
Go ahead and treat the test drive as you normally would, using past plots or fleet locations as your setting! Here's some helpful info for some ideas.
OPTION B: Build-a-Calibration
If you'd like, you can use the info given about the Calibrations plot to design your own calibration room for any characters you want! Got a character you want to explore their inner psyche but isn't in the game yet? Go ahead and try it out! It can be a fully fleshed out room, or simply just a small part of it you'd like to play with.
Alternatively for any characters that are in the game, you can use this as a chance to either iron out, brainstorm, or test run any components of your calibration before the actual plot starts! We don't recommend posting the entirety of your calibration in this meme (as you'll have nothing new to post come plot time), but this can be a good chance to test out any parts to make sure they work how you desire.
Test drives are posted SEASONALLY, so the next one will be in September!

[ okay no, he didn't think he would rot and die in space jail for jaywalking, it was mostly the oh-god-cops-no gut instinct and the whole I-can't-afford-a-fine thing, but still if they go after you for every tiny transgression, can you imagine the size of that fine/length of his jailtime once they get a sample of what comes out of his mouth? because he can.
neither is a particularly appealing figure. ]

[ -- because both sides of the coin are terribly aware of that risk, she suspects. peggy tilts her head. maybe, just maybe, she's playing with a few more cards up her sleeve than mister lang has. the perks of having already pumped steve for intel on those individuals who'd helped him in the wake of the sokovia accords. ]
no subject
Uh - thanks for the assist. [ but now he's starting to feel like maybe he was better off with that cop, at least he wouldn't be continuing on the journey with him. he's definitely feeling grilled here. no, not principal's office. warden's office, that's what this feels like. ]
I'm gonna catch a shuttle now, but it's been great, really, awesome, not a criticism of your social skills at all -
no subject
but the drink never mattered. not in the end. instead, she's quick to reveal at least a portion of her game. ]
Mister Lang. I assure you there's no need to rush off. [ ... ] You'll get no hassle from me.
[ well. not any legal hassle, at least. ]
no subject
...are you psychic? Cuz, that's a real possibility these days - [ and he doesn't mean 'in the fleet' these days, though it does make it even likelier. is it less creepy than being internet stalked? maybe, a little bit. she could also be from home, from the future, maybe ant-man becomes a big deal like the avengers - that would be pretty cool. yeah, yeah that's definitely his favorite option. ]
no subject
[ -- some seventy years later, by her reckoning. peggy does the decent thing and holds out a hand. ]
Steve's told me a bit about you. I do hope you'll pardon me my curiosity.
no subject
[ sorry, he has to make sure. captain america is telling people about him? ohmygod! he can't hide the smile and isn't even trying, that is just straight-up awesome. he takes that hand and gives it a warm shake. ]
Consider it pardoned, any friend of Steve's - [ there's a delight in calling cap by his real name, like it's something naughty, like breaking a little rule (that would probably getting his arrested around here if it were a real rule). he still can't get over captain america even knowing who he is, getting to call him steve like they're friends or something, it's mind blowing. ] I'm sorry, I don't know your name - I'm sure he'll tell me I just - you know - just got here -
no subject
[ -- she ducks her surname. just in case. she rather prefers that steve might not have mentioned her, but that's her own hang-up. much like his and the inevitable march to the warden's office.
her grip is firm. friendly, almost. ]
no subject
[ firm and friendly he will take! it's not like he's inexperienced with tough, strict women. heck, they're his type. he's not making any sign of having recognized the name, and it's because he doesn't. he's really only been in the fleet a short time - fresh off the marsiva here, and his stay there has been on the short side as well - and steve has had enough to cover with him without introductions. he's getting the feeling they're nowhere near done. ]
no subject
and, frankly, it's charming to go unrecognized. almost a relief. ]
As I said, you can thank me properly when we get back to the Iskaulit. [ ... ] I like whiskey.
no subject
Fair's fair. [ he said it, he'll own up to it. he does have enough credits for a round of drinks. ] Still going to head there now, if you wanna come, Meston hospitality isn't really working for me.
no subject
Evidently not. [ a flash of a smile, and then she's walking. ] Frankly, very few of the asteroids have been all that welcoming.
no subject
Which are the welcoming ones?
no subject
[ which steve rather keenly supplied. but she doesn't say as much. ]
no subject
[ he's game with bartering work for real food and lodging; he's not exactly a farm boy but she doesn't look like a farm girl either, so it shouldn't be anything out of his depth. and hey, everyone always needs machinery fixed, and he can definitely do that easily enough. maybe he can even earn a little pocket money. ]
Point a guy in the hospitable direction?
no subject
[ she speaks the name with a soft huff -- perhaps a touch of already-created nostalgia. she and steve don't get many 'vacations' off the ship, and so it's difficult not to feel some affection towards the subject matter. ]
It's worth being careful. There may be fewer coppers to bother you -- but the asteroid's got plenty of organized crime willing to fill the vacuum. Be careful goes without saying.
[ and yet she says it anyway. ]
no subject
So tons of cops on minor municipal violations and none on Yakuza-roid? Yeah, that sounds about right.
[ he's going to end up doing something stupid, isn't he. if you look close, you can see the first domino falling. ]
no subject
while she walks, she glances over her shoulder. ]
I suppose it's nothing an Avenger can't handle. [ a beat; she considers. ] Former Avenger? You're one of the lot who've gotten yourselves into a bit of hot water, aren't you?
[ she knows quite a bit about the ordeal she now downplays. ]
no subject
avenger. he didn't think of that, it didn't feel like a possibility - him? an avenger? he's just a guy in a...seriously cool suit! besides, he can already picture hank's response. work with a stark? ha! (and to be fair, he has very much the same reaction when it comes to stark. but the leader of the avengers - at least in his mind - is captain america. and he'll work with him any day.)
but he helps them out, he works with them, captain america said so himself. that's...he's at least like an honorary avenger, right?
that's so cool.
he clears his throat. ]
Oh yeah. [ hot water, definitely. he may not know what he does with the avengers but he's definitely got himself in hot water all on his own (okay, hank had a hand in it). ] I don't mind that as much as the cold air. [ because he hasn't literally been in boiling water (hopefully that sentence will never require a 'yet') but jumping out of a plane in nothing but the ant-man suit is not an experience he's looking forward to repeating.
you know how hard it is to take on a real avenger when you can't feel your toes? it's hard, okay! ]
no subject
and in that respect, she harbours a bit of worry all on her own. it's hard not share those feelings -- they cloud around steve on a near-daily basis. ]
Well, whatever the temperature. [ ... ] I'm grateful he's got support. By all accounts, 2016 sounds like a damned miserable year.
no subject
he's got enough to worry about right here without worrying about what's gonna happen the year after he gets back home. ]
He's Captain America, not supporting him is treason. [ or it should be. ] Besides, what year isn't crazy these days? [ take 2015 for example - he got out of jail, turned tiny, took on an avenger on his own and won, rode on an ant, commanded an ant army - his daughter now keeps a giant ant for a pet -
and that's just the stuff in his life. ]
no subject
[ -- all that talk of treason. but there's a jovial glint in her eye, as though she understands it's hyperbole. peggy has a strange relationship with steve's heroic persona. she doesn't much care for the cult of personality surrounding captain america.
they 'round a narrow street corner and head in the direction of the shuttle port. ]
Steve's as capable of making a wrong call as the rest of us. Lord knows, I've witnessed a few.
[ she's steve's biggest supporter, but also his quickest critic. ]
no subject
after prison, he thought he was done with that, but life didn't work out that way. he gave up and had greatness happen to him despite it. captain america hunted it down no matter how many nos he got on the way, no matter how much it hurt. he doesn't know the man under the suit, not yet, not really, but he respects the hell out of that attitude. ]
I've always been a believer in the importance of cause and aftermath reaction. [ because, you know, he makes a lot of wrong calls. ]
no subject
peggy leads them weaving through the crowd to where one of the starstruck's short range shuttles is docked. ]
-- The ends justify the means? [ a sly glance. ] Oh, he must like you. Anything for a good cause.
