there in the clearing, we gathered close...
It's the Fleet's final day in the system. The Marsiva will begin drifting onward shortly, all of the ships automatically preparing for regroup and departure.
It's also been a full week since the meteor crashed into Lyuku, forcing a planetwide evacuation of its people and destroying anything that remained behind. Almost daily, scientists and higher-ranking officials have been attempting to reach the planet's surface, only to have to turn back. Still, with each passing day, it got a little bit easier - just enough to give people a glimmer of hope.
Today, news travels through the space station (and the fleet) that a crew has made it to the surface. They're reporting traces of breathable air... stable ground... faint readings of humidity to indicate water...! If things continue at this incredible, should-be-impossible rate, then it's very likely that within a generation or two, Lyuku could maybe, possibly be made home again!
It's a blessing - a wonderful omen, full of hope! They all knew it, they knew their planet was strong, they believed in the power of the Prince and the tenacity of his guardian huntress! This is a sign, it has to be! Not even a meteor from the far reaches of space can keep Lyuku down forever. The people could not be more proud of their home, and they cannot wait for continued good news. They're sure it's coming. They're sure that one day, in the not too distant future, their people can return home.
And from the still-charred planet, a faint and tired song begins - just a low hum, barely above a cosmic whisper, but full of hope and joy and gratitude.
The Marsiva floats away from the system, taking her ships along with her - but the fleet can leave on a hopeful note, at least.
------
As of this post, the fleet is now pulling away from the Eyuzi system, full speed ahead and without looking back. We will be drifting from 9/28 to 10/13.
Your usual garden variety waystations can be found along the way! Of note during this two-week drifting period: The first few waystations the fleet happens across will have many Lyukite families holed up there - ones that escaped on their own ships, or somehow found a ride away from the space station. Perhaps they're on their way to start lives elsewhere, or maybe they haven't heard the good news yet - feel free to let them know!
Later into the second week, the waystations become more and more deserted. Run-down. Almost flat-out abandoned. A few even look like anyone there may have just dropped everything and left in a hurry.
Happy Drifting, dear fleet!!
