[Shinjiro doesn't know whether to yell at the kid or just go with it. He actually, with that gung-ho attitude, reminds him a little of Iori...and that's not...entirely a bad thing, as long as Iori never shows up, or catches him thinking that.

And...honestly...Shinji does, too. He hasn't had much opportunity to try foreign food.]

Uh...sure. Why not? [Ha pauses for a second.] It's a sauce, kid. What do you want it on?

Well, what do people usually put it on?

[He takes the fact that Shinjiro is responding to him to mean that he can inch his chair a little closer. He doesn't leave his own table just yet, but it's easier to talk when you're closer to the person you're talking to.]

Salad.

[ Like he's an expert or something. He's not, but he does like learning about food. His favorite channel is the food channel, okay?]

Or things you dip in it.

[Sora can't help the slight face at a suggestion of a salad, though that's replaced by being perked up at the idea of 'dipping things.']

Uhh. Let's see. [He looks over the menu for any hint of things that would be easy to dip with.] Maybe with french fries?

[He thinks about it for a second, then nods.]

Why not? It works with mayonnaise.

Did you want to get some and share? Just in case we end up not liking it. [That would mean moving to sharing a table as well, but that might ultimately be Sora's goal. It's a good way to make friends.]

[He takes it back. This kid's not quite as obnoxious as Iori. He motions to the seat across from his.]

Sure. Whatever.

[Sora looks pleased with the offer and gets up to slide into the seat across from Shinjiro.]

I'm Sora, by the way.

[castoredux]

[Holy shit this guy is friendly. Almost too friendly. Nothing's keeping him here, though, so he could always leave.]

Aragaki Shinjiro.

[That is an accurate summary of Sora's character, yes. He offers Shinjiro a smile.]

Ara-gaki Shin-jiro [He tries, forming the words oddly but at least attempting them.]

Do you happen to have a nick name maybe?

Aragaki's too hard for you? [He scoffs.] Whatever. Use Shinjiro, then.

Yeah I guess. [Sora says in a self-deprecating sort of way. He offers Shinjiro an embarrassed smile.]

It's nice to meet you Shinjiro.

[castoredux]

Yeah, sure. Uh...you too, Sora.

[After their order is placed, he leans back in his chair, crossing his arms, but doesn't really say anything. He seems to be fully content to just sit is silence.]

[Sora lets there be silence for a while too. He ends up resting his head on his hand and sort of watching the happenings of the restaurant.

Eventually, though, he turns back to Shinjiro.]

So how long have you been out here?

[castoredux]

[Steel eyes more from his glass of water, which he's been sipping since the server brought it, to Sora, raising an eyebrow slightly before rolling his shoulder in a shrug.]

Week or so. What about you?

A little less than that.

Have you ever traveled through space like this before?

[castoredux]

[You know, until this very moment, it hasn't even occurred to Shinji that any of them have.]

...nope.

[He pauses before continuing. Look, a conversation isn't his strong suit.]

Have you?

[keythatconnects]

Oh yeah! My friends and I have traveled to all kinds of worlds before. We have our own rocket, but it doesn't look anything like the ships here. I think they are made from completely different materials.

[castoredux]

...what are you, space rangers? [Like in the action shows on TV?]

[keythatconnects]

I like that sound of that, but as I don't know what a 'space ranger' is, I can't say for sure.

[castoredux]

[Holy shit, this kid.]

It ain't that big of a deal. [And then they were saved by the arrival of food. Shinji picks up a fry, turning it around but not eating it yet. He's inspecting it, actually.] Is that what you were doing when you came here?

[keythatconnects]

[Sora is distracted easily, and even more so when it's food. He picks up a fry and experimentally dips it into the Ranch, though Shinjiro's question makes him pause before he tries it.]

Yes! [A pause.] Well....

[He sits back, thinking over how to word this.] Something... bad happened to me. It took away a lot of my strength and abilities. I was on my way to a friend's world where I could train and recover.

Instead of going there, I woke up here.

[castoredux]

[That got Shinji more of an answer than he'd been hoping for, and he distracted himself by helping himself to the french fries also. The way the kid hesitated over "something bad" happening to him. It was probably really bad, and considering how old this kid was, way beyond anything he should have dealt with.]

...that sucks.

[And Shinjiro was never good at comfort.]

At least you're alive, I guess.

Me and my friends. That's really what matters the most to me.

[He offers Shinji a little smile because the fact that he is trying to comfort is sweet.]

Any power I lost I'll regain. I just have to work for a while and I'll get it back. It won't even seem that bad with my friends at my side.

Yeah, sure.

[ Friends had a habit of forcing you to deal with shit you wanted to avoid, too...

...maybe the kid had a point. ]
