Attention, attention!
IMPORTANT PLAYER PLOT INCOMING, LET'S GIVE ATROMA THE MIDDLE FINGER

So!!! This month the mods are allowing us to make some crazy projects, including our own updates for our ships. They want us to circumvent the Atroma. Do you know what that means? We can finally make something the characters have talked about a couple of times: A PRIVATE NETWORK OF OUR OWN.
Here is the thread chatting about the idea with the mods, but let me put the important stuff here under the cut.
----
-I remember asking you once if buying tablets would give us an alternate communicator, that was an understandable no. Now I'm reading that you want us to use this planet "for circumventing the Atroma". So would this be the chance for the crews to start their own network? Something simple maybe like just emails? To keep files? Or just texting and calls.
Here's a suggestion for how we might make that a reality, just off the top of our heads: A few characters could volunteer to use their "crazy project" opportunity and/or their reward credits to establish the new network and encrypt it - which will be $$$expensive. It's going to have to cover all ships, any devices y'all put on it (now or in the future), and make up for times when everyone's literally planets away from each other (larger systems, etc).
Something else driving up the price: encryption. To keep something as powerful as Atroma out, y'all are going to want like... some crazy powerful protections. Atroma is going to know the network is there, and like the current line y'all have with the Interceptor Fleet, Atroma is going to be trying really hard to get into it.
But once the network is up, y'all could put whatever devices on it that you'd like - it's y'all's network, after all. Y'all can buy new tablets/phones/phablets and dedicate them to the new network, and/or y'all could figure out how to get devices from home onto it... Or y'all could even use your Atroma-given devices! (though that might open you to some risk of breaching by Atroma, realistically speaking, but we'd cross that bridge if we got to it.)
-So the characters that put their reward money into a network wouldn't be able to do another project? Even if they've been saving money for a while now?
Oh, no, nothing so severe! Go forth and do more projects! (To a point, of course - our limit might be nebulous in this system, but it does exist.) We're just asking that people remain conscientious of things like this - that it's not free, and you're putting time, effort, and resources into something. Maybe next system they finally have to get a job after not having to in the past? Small things like that!
There are other ways, too! For instance, the more people willing to put in for the cost, the less everyone has to spend individually. That's more relevant for characters' IC discussions on fairness of cost, but it's worth mentioning.
Though, again, money is going to remain handwave-y and vague -- and also, we're more concerned about letting everyone create something awesome while they have the chance.
---
Tldr: we can do this with the power of TEAMWORK. So if your character would be up to add their share of money to the idea, please comment! Also feel free to use this post to chat about all kinds of ideas you may think for this. If you're character is communications/engineer, that's also a plus, and any knowledge from home can also be of help. Anything you think may be of use for this plot please add away to your comment!
There aren't real dates for this except we're leaving this planet at the end of October, so that's a whole month to talk it out. ICly we can put up a mingle/discussion post when details are hashed out with the mods. Let's rock, DF!

Heck yes! Let's break some rules
I'd say he could either: A.) Help put together the devices or B.) Help forge a compartment for holding the transmitters (Ex: If we're mounting some kind of device on the outside of the ships to act as a relay so the network is shared) Trust the guy who makes nuclear bombs for fun to know how to protect your satellite dish from getting vaporized by the vacuum of space. ;>
Flug however builds tech for supervillains, in addition to talking him down from adding ten more buzzsaws to a contraption, if you come at him with the whole hero-schtick he's going to be too wary of you to want to help. All that said, he is a practical man and wants to get home as much as anyone else. If you present the situation as something that benefits him, you shouldn't have too much trouble convincing him. Even if hand-waved, it's something we should ICly work out. (I am of course all for butting heads with this, if desired.)
He probably won't put forth much money, he'll consider working for free enough compensation.

The Vision will be spending some of his own reward/time on a project for his ship, but will happily donate the remaining credits toward this effort. He's got the Engineering augment, and also he used to be Tony Stark's main AI and handled all kinds of Avengers encryption and lived on a network and stuff.
Besides, he's going to be looking for salvage anyway thanks to his other project, so he might as well try to scavenge for parts for this as well.

After he helps with some of the costs for Shiro's arm. LOL

Second: If she hears about it, Lup can contribute scientifically/magically! Like I said on plurk:
-Lup's secondary class is artificer, meaning she can infuse magical energy into an object to give it specific effects. She's created very powerful and advanced magical items in her world, and she's a high-level wizard, so she knows what's up.
-where she hails from has objects called Stones of Farspeech, which act as long-distance communicators across a magical network. They're basically treated like cell phones in canon.
-there's a gag in TAZ about adding "apps" to the stones, but the appearance is far more ambiguous, lol... but they're pretty cheap to buy so I can't imagine the enchantment is very complicated. Once a device is made and attuned, it needs no connection to the person who made it OR their magic, so it's completely independent.
Lup's not an engineer so making the actual technology is better left in someone else's hands if they want something more complicated than voice chat, but linking the devices magically wouldn't be too difficult! Just time-consuming, I imagine.

BUT he still has the augment and is considered a multi-purpose genius in the 23rd century spacenerd community, so hopefully those things are still helpful!
