Drift Fleet is officially three years old this month! As we have noted previously, the metaplot has been ramping up to this, the last major plot of the year. The culmination of players’ efforts over the past several systems and their actions in this one will have a major impact on the outcome of the plot as well as what will happen in the future.

Due to the intense nature of the upcoming event, we’re offering a variety of options that allow you to play in your comfort zone. We don’t want anyone to feel pressured or left out. If none of the options in this post suit you, please contact us via PM and we’ll work something out. ♥

TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR THIS PLOT INCLUDE:
  • Excessive Violence, Gore if players so choose
  • Cannibalism (implied in plot writeups, can be played with by players)
  • DEATH
  • High-Stress/Traumatic Situations
  • Torture/mutilation (implied in plot writeups)
  • Human Sacrifice

If that hasn’t scared you away - well, first, Happy Almost Halloween! Second, keep reading to find out what’s going on with this planet…

It's about to get real... )

Ever since the Fleet began raising warnings about some vague, red-tinted, death-themed, horrible planetwide event that would befall the poor planet of Lyuku, natives have been a little touchier than usual. Most are skeptical, but a still significant number of them are not. While some of the wealthier families have the option to board a spaceship and go somewhere else for a while - and a few are doing just that, thanks - most people hearing about this Prophetic Dream of the End are just plain scared and not sure where to go or what to do.

Experts study the planet closer, to make sure they didn't overlook anything they should know. Astronomers look to the skies, checking and double-checking and re-checking every last detail for any hint of danger. Unfortunately... they find it, having just barely moved within a range they're capable of reading. It's coming in fast. And it isn't stopping.

On the night of the 16th, the usual bustling night-life on Lyuku pauses for the first time in ten thousand years. The merrymakers fall silent, the music grinds to a cacophonous halt, and everyone looks upward. There is a rapidly-moving shooting star across the sky, but the problem is that it shouldn’t be there. No one said anything about a comet passing this close. Consult all the palms and tea leaves you want, but the spirits are silent about this.

After a few hours, the authorities send out an announcement over all channels, playing on every communicator able to pick up the signal and the yelling in the streets:
People of Lyuku, and visitors from elsewhere-- everyone who revels in the Prince’s warmth and life, who lives and explores this beautiful planet… All of us are in danger. A large object from outside our solar system has been caught in our planet’s gravity and it is on a direct collision course with our world.

There is hope as long as we stick together. Gather your belongings and your loved ones and follow the directions of your local authorities at the landing areas. We will need to prepare the Eynewa Space Station, but we are able to accommodate everyone, and sustain them until we find refuge. Supplies and hands are needed. Evacuation begins now.

    And on less official channels:
Oh my god. We’re going to fucking die here. Oh my fucking god. … fuck.

For all their technology, foresight, and fortune-telling-- they somehow missed the celestial object now hurtling toward their planet at a billion miles per hour. The only course available to the residents of Lyuku is to leave their planet behind.

    CALENDAR:
→ September 16th: A giant meteor is spotted within range of Lyuku, and it is headed on a collision course. Evacuation begins immediately. A mingle post will go up shortly.
→ September 22nd: The meteor collides with Lyuku. There will be an IC post for this event.
→ September 28th: Atroma pulls away from the remnants of the Eyuzi system. Drift begins.

After a long, intense month, the Calibrations event is now officially ending. Thank you to everyone for making this event such a wonderful experience! We simply can’t get over how creative all of you are, and your enthusiasm has just been downright contagious! You really are the best Drift Fleet Cycle a Mysterious Corporation In Space could ask for, you know that~?

Buuuut seriously, you are also the best players a mod team could ask for. Here’s to you, Flooters. ♥ You’re all wonderful. We hope you all had as much fun as we did.

We have a few things to go over, so please check out all of the details in this post to make sure you catch everything before we move forward! Click )

    ------------
The Drift Fleet is now officially drifting! We want to give ample time for people to continue to backtag without feeling like they need to focus on the next new shiny, so the fleet will stay in drift from today, July 9th, until July 21st. During this drift period, the Fleet will continue on its course as if it never got held up in the first place! Convenient! Feel free to refamiliarize yourself with the ships, the Iskaulit, meet your new crewmates, or find some way to cope with the fallout of what the heck all of you just went through. As always, there are your standard waystations now and then that are perfectly explorable, should you need to get out and stretch your legs for a bit.

Do try to have fun, yes? And, of course -- welcome home, dear Drift Fleet.

A couple days have passed, and there are still no clear signs of when (or even if) the Drift Fleet's passengers will get to leave this strange wing of the Marsiva. Calibrations continue during the "night" cycles, for those who can remember the experiences.

But one more strange thing starts happening during their stay! It's entirely opt-in, but if anyone wants a little more for their characters to investigate and chew on, it's here to be discovered!

Those who were a part of calibrations last year might remember some of these discoveries - if they remember anything at all about them… but this year, there are more surprises to find! So even if you remember this plot from last time, give it another read-through, there’s still something new for everyone!

Here we are again, dear Flooters. After many adventures across many, many more systems than ever before, this Cycle of the hit show Drift Fleet is shaping up to be one for the books! But as far as Atroma is concerned, not everything has gone entirely smoothly. There have been more rough patches and space-road bumps than they’d like, and they’re not about to let those go completely overlooked!

There’s also the matter of a special program everyone so very recently procured, and the need to protect some precious information…

And so, starting today (June 9th), passengers will suddenly find themselves no longer on their own ships. At least they’ll be somewhere very familiar - though, is that really a good thing…?

Grab your supplies and do one last lap around the ring. By the end of the day today (3/01), the Marsiva will be heading out of the system into parts unknown. The path they are following seems to be an established travel route, as there’s a decent amount of ship traffic along the way from Co’kal, Daisoe, and human ships.

Ships repaired and wounds mended, by the end of the day the Marsiva begins to move out of the system and into parts unknown. The standard waystations are along the way as usual, and interstellar traffic slowly picks up as to a medium crawl as the fleet travels this week.

The Drift Fleet has been drifting away from the Hotel Corona for a few days now. It must be following a lesser known route to tourists, as the space traffic has been downright scarce. There’s been the occasional blips spotted in the nebulae, but otherwise, it’s been quiet.

    Well that’s about to change.

The Marsiva and the fleet are still in range of the December System for another week, but those keeping a watchful eye to the skies will notice something unusual deep within the nebula clouds.

As the Marsiva finally pulls away from the clutches of the Lagan System (and drags the rest of the Fleet along with her), it nearly seems as though the mystery of the encoded message will remain a mystery forever. Through the Hosts' distracting lure of the party deck, the passengers race to put the clues of the message together, but a few pieces remain missing... until the very last moment.

Hello everyone! We're sorry again for the long wait before updating, but we're finally here with information about those terraformers that have been acting up on the toxic moon. Every passenger interested is welcome to pitch in and help with the problem... And for those who aren't likely to get involved, this will be the final week on the polluted moon before the Marsiva leads the Drift Fleet away from this star system and into the next drifting week.

Just as it’s starting to look like Atroma’s “associates” are never going to show up, the Starlight’s registries are updated with information on the arrival of a new ship! The HS Maldua will be in orbit for a short time, and all passengers bearing cargo are welcome to visit...

About a month ago, the Atroma representatives left everyone with a pile of bizarre cargo and told them that they're now contractually obligated to deliver it to the HS Maldua, a ship that was supposed to be found orbiting the Starlight station. The cargo in question was a bunch of crappy Floot Loop brand gumballs. Most people left them alone (especially after reading about the huge fines they could be landed with for tampering with it), but a few people have investigated and found out that the gumballs are... kind of weird.

Everyone's monetary accounts are still suspended, Atroma isn't answering anyone's calls (not that they ever do, really), and there hasn't been any sign of this "Maldua" yet. Is this whole thing a bad joke, or is Atroma really serious about this exchange?

The Drift Fleet left that little fleet of racer-ships behind a long time ago... But you won't be alone for long! This new Star System will be a little more involved than the last, but is also built to leave plenty of room for players and characters to work on personal projects, meet new people, or just catch up after the last month or so.

Since we got this out late, this September event will actually run into part of October. The Drift Fleet's first birthday is on October 5th (yay, us!) so we will also be giving you guys some details about the setting we have planned to follow this event, starting later that month! Since it will be a very focused event, we want to give everyone plenty of time to start planning for it now.

In the meantime, let us see what awaits our passengers on...

Hello everyone! Both mods are going to be away from the game for the next couple of weeks, so we're leaving the rest of August pretty low-impact and free-roaming. We'll have something a little more depthy for you in September, once we return.

So, beginning on Aug 16th, the Marsiva finally moves out of range of the blue planet and this system's population of space bugs. While there's not a whole lot to see in this sector of space, a few things are worth noting!

What's in store for the next couple of weeks? )

As always, if you have any questions about this system, you are welcome to leave them in response to the "Questions" comment below! Just... Be prepared for a bit of a wait if you ask anything between the 20th and the 26th, as the mods cannot promise enough time or internet connectivity to respond to things quickly. :(

We also encourage using the rest of the comment section for plotting! Ask for shuttle buddies, plan races, suggest projects for the Iskaulit, see who wants to come hang out on the stations, or whatever else comes to mind.

    and scene!

Thank you all for a fascinating and engaging June! As mods, we loved watching the passengers face such a complicated issue--both disagreeing and working together the whole way through.

July is planned to continue the story of the June events, for those characters who are invested--issues that have not been completely resolved on the bug ship will have time to reach a solution. We also intend July to provide plenty more peaceful and lighthearted opportunities for those who are looking forward to a break, or for characters who might not care so much about the ship. The post kicking off the July events will go up as soon as we can manage.

For now, here is a summary of the major happenings in June, and further discoveries available to anyone looking into matters around the end of the month. If you have further questions, please ask them here!

    The Details )

So, with this information, the fleet sails on. The way-stations in this region are just as wrecked as the ones all June have been, but a planet is coming into range up ahead, so the fleet won't be drifting through desolation for long.
