Culture is a prominent field, especially when it comes to discovering new planets and locations.

Listen, James and I didn't see all the different cryptids. If you run across the one that supposedly drowns people, will you document it for me?

Of course. I was planning on doing so, regardless.

What's your ship like? I've only heard stories about the Enterprise.

The Discovery is a science vessel. As such, many of the technologies implemented there are newly tested. We also have a spore drive which allows us to jump to almost any place in the universe instantaneously.

A spore drive?

In my world, there are a lot of stories of space travel, but none of them included a spore drive.

The theory, recently proven, is that we are all linked through a mycelial network. It is a subspace domain that only we can access so far.

So I'm guessing you're the lucky testers of this technology. And if enough ships find out you're not teleporting yourselves into black holes and the center of suns, they'll start using it, too.

Unfortunately it is not a convenient technology to use. The only expert is located on my ship and there are a great deal of variables that must be accounted for.

That sort of traveling always looks impressive on screen, but in reality, I bet it involves a lot more careful planning and calculation.

I think I'm all right with hyperdrive and going at light speed.

Dilithium mining also has consequences as well, doctor. It has been a reason for conflict among many planets.

We should never settle for what feels comfortable.

Yes, I know. Science has a price.

Comfortable? No. I've taken my share of risks in my life. I'm just more careful what risks to take these days. Nothing wrong with that.
