The Handwaved CR Meme!

Our characters live in close quarters, and it's impossible to thread out the minutiae of each and every day-to-day interaction! That's what this meme is for: helping establish some of the less "exciting" details of what our characters are up to and what acquaintances they might have!

Examples:

• Folks on the SS Bishop with Tadashi might frequently see him in the kitchens, desperately trying to recreate a mixture of protein gel that tastes ANYTHING like a Reese's cup.
  
• People on the SS Blue Fish probably hear Katara and Sokka arguing loudly about something REALLY dumb at least every three or four days.

I'm going to put up headers for each ship, for general ship-related things (like what I've listed above), but please feel free to just take those as jumping off points, and don't at all feel like you're restrained to only commenting on your own ship (e.g., Jade has probably been lurking around the Wonderduck for the past week despite being currently assigned to another ship.) Make your own top-levels, build some handwaved CR, and let's smush our characters together!

SS PATHSTONE

Duke usually sleeps and eats regularly like a normal person. But every once in a while he's up for like, three days straight, working on something.

Also occasionally mixes like, veggie gel with water and drinks instead of eating something that looks vaguely like food.

Crowley is usually found at his workstation, definitely NOT working. He's often got his feet propped up on the comms console, drinking and offering sarcastic commentary on anyone unlucky enough to live there or step foot on the ship.

He also talks to the plants they own. And by talk I mean 'threaten'. I'm not kidding.

Instead of attempting to keep something like a normal sleeping or eating schedule, Tek tends to skip entire days of either thing, and then gorge himself and sleep for more than twelve hours at a time. So, he's just as likely to be found up all night reading, as he is sleeping through the entire day.

And aside from watching the network, reading, and occasionally writing, he seems to be working on exactly zero projects. Who knows what he even does around here.

Also... I am so very sorry to all the plants on the ship. As soon as Tek gets back to the Pathstone, the growing things are going to suffer, until he can get a ward put up on his room.

...And he also just likes to reach out and spitefully kill pieces of plants, so. There's also that. :\

This is not Cole's ship, but he's here on a semi-regular basis, usually visiting the Tams or Manolo.

Mahna would like to institute family meals where they all sit down together and eat as a crew and tell stories and etc. Especially since he's in charge of cooking.

Manolo always keeps the door to his office open, to make sure he's always available for those who want to talk. He's pretty amicable towards everyone, and he plays that guitar of his a LOT.

SS THREE TWINS

Sooo Tadashi is probably hanging out on the Three Twins a lot, cause he's dating y'all's captain. He's not super duper nosy or anything, but he can probably be found hanging out occasionally in the kitchen area or w/e, just sort of, you know. Existing in your general vicinity, hahaha.

SS RED FISH

Nunnally really really really cares about the Red Fish and everyone on board. Huff puff. She also has a tendency to spend a lot of time on the ship, and while she explores planets and waystations to some extent, her chair doesn't handle off road terrain very well... So staying on the ship is often easier than asking people to fuss over her.

AND SPEAKING OF FUSSING, ever since they upgraded the rooms, Nunnally doesn't use her little room bunk. Ladders are a no go for her, and she certainly isn't going to ask for help every morning and ever night. For most nights she parks her chair in a corner, and keeps a pile of neatly folded blankets and pillows. She leans her chair back, stuffs a pillow behind her head, and gets a pretty good night's sleep most of the time. She also recently took the Lull ability, so anyone who chooses to sleep in the bunk rooms during the night while she's around might find that they get a better night's sleep than normal :3

Also, Nunnally has set up a kind of... job board of sorts in the kitchen, since she assumes that everyone will pass by there at one point. She does a lot of the figurative leg work for setting up jobs for everyone, so she'll have contact information and job descriptions posted on the board, and she highlights them with certain colors if she thinks that certain people may be interested in it (pumpkin orange for Zhas, forest green for Coil, gold for Iroh, purple for Cassandra, and bright red for Syeira). So if characters are ever looking for work, they can either look there or ask Nunnally directly and she'll have some hot tips.

Katara.... probably tries to spend a whole lot of time in the med bay, helping out where she can since she's 1) a teenage overbearing mom-type and 2) also a healer, even though she's a comms officer.

SS WONDERDUCK

The most easily noticeable thing about Kaneis is that well, he is a pretty unsocial dude! He'll talk to you if you talk to him first, but on the whole he tends to keep to his own! So much to the level that if he doesn't want to eat what's being served? He won't show up for meal time. He doesn't directly advertise that he doesn't need to eat, if you observe enough it might catch on.

Another thing is he doesn't sleep. So. If you are up at any weird hour, you might find him around. Though often times he sticks to his quarters, the bridge or maybe the cargo bay. He's good at being pretty quiet since he's pretty used to staying up while everyone else sleeps.

SS TOURIST

Fenris is becoming less and less of a ghost on this ship as he gets to know his crew. When he's not in his room, he's probably in the mess area or in the armory. He still doesn't really start all that many conversations, but he will speak to people who speak to him.

He also suffers from terrible nightmares. So he can often be found at night in the kitchen with a cup of tea, trying to ease his messed up head enough that he might get some restful sleep. ALSO Thedosian elf eyes reflect light like a cat, so they glow in the dark. Crew members are welcome for their heart attacks.

SS HUNTRESS

Cole, nine times out of ten, is either in the cockpit at his comms station, in the cargo bay training, or in his or Chris's quarters sleeping. When he's usually out interacting, he's with Chris and very rarely by himself. He's not as much of a social butterfly as you'd think. Also, when he's training, sometimes he'll be playfighting with Chris in demon form. He's given up trying to explain what he is to the Thedosians and just claims to be a mage of some sort because he's tired of trying to be killed.

So Anders is very flippant about the whole "captaining" thing in conversation, but in practice he actually takes it pretty seriously. He'll check in with what people are doing/what still needs to be done/what needs coordinating, etc., but he doesn't get too specific with the details of how individual people do their jobs. maybe sometimes he announces stupid rules on random days. probably no one listens to him and that is a good thing.

He has a cat! Her name is Captain Whitefluff the Terrible (WE HAVE THREE CAPTAINS IT'S ALL VERY DRAMATIC) and she is Very Noisy and Very Independent. He carries her around in the collar of his shirt when he's walking around, but if he's stationary anywhere you can probably assume the cat is rolling around somewhere nearby. He spends a lot of time poking around the med bay trying to familiarize himself with what's available, but again, he's very flippant about the job in general.

SS STARSTRUCK

Even though he's living on the station this month, Mattias normally sticks close to home. Despite how dysfunctional they all are, he does really care about his crew and probably goes on fetch quests for anyone who needs anything. When he is on the ship, he's usually working. Just assume his station is covered in notes and scattered papers and you'd be right. He's got at least five projects going on at once along with his communications duties, and is constantly working on them. On the rare occasion, he'll sleep in his bed, but for the most part he can be found slumped over his station, having collapsed from exhaustion. He usually stays up for a few days and then sleeps for hours, forgets to eat and bathe and yet always finds the time to keep his hair groomed.

He argues with Oren pretty frequently on the deck. Probably also argues with Aaron. Searches out Felix when he needs a break and is constantly wondering where the hell ELN is on the ship.

When he does remember to shower, he doesn't change in the bathroom. Everyone on the ship has probably seen him at least shirtless. He doesn't really think about it.

SS CAPRINE

So Aang probably spends most of his time being an energetic and talkative young boy around the ship, and amongst his daily rituals include (1) shaving hair off of his head to keep himself bald, (2) meditating! He's good at it despite being so energetic, (3) Bending! Anyone on the ship can freely handwave that Aang has explained to them the basics of bending. You've probably only seen him airbend and occasionally waterbend (waterbending is handy for cleaning up spills), as there isn't exactly much earth to bend on a spaceship, and Aang will avoid firebending when he doesn't have to.

Also sometimes he might mention one of the weird hybrid animals from his own world. (He really loves to ride hog monkeys and otter penguins!)

SS PAISLEY

So late to this party, BUT:

Barring emergencies, Jason WILL be making three meals a day, Paisley people. It's up to you whether you eat them or not, but he'll be making them. He'll also spend a bunch of time trying to figure out how to make the food less asstastic.

(Once the ship has enough kitchen upgrades, there WILL be chili dogs. He will MAKE THAT SHIT HAPPEN.)

Also, editing to add (because apparently this completely slipped my mind when posting): Jason has nightmares. Not every night. And not every nightmare leads to sleep-fighting, but yeah, periodically he'll try to beat the shit out of whatever's closest to him. Usually that's, like, a pillow, but anyone bunking near him can feel free to mention it, or try to wake him up, or, idk, throwthinkgs at him from across the room.

Spoilers: touching him when he's in the middle of a nightmare is not a good idea, and should not be attempted if character injury isn't on your to-do list.

SS VANQUISH

Kilowog is the type of guy who checks in with everyone and makes sure they're doing good on a daily basis. He probably wakes up, says hi to everyone and then fusses around. He keeps things tidy and will scold anyone who leaves a mess as well as anyone who slacks off in their duties on the ship. Sometimes he leaves the ship to float around in space and can sometimes be seen waving at people from the cockpit's window. He eats a lot but he keeps most of it restricted to the gels so he doesn't hog whatever good food they actually have. His sleep schedule is very regimented and he can usually be heard waking up way too early, doing morning workouts. Try as he might to keep them quiet, he still kind of shakes the ship a bit.

He still has trouble fitting through the doors and he's pretty upset about the lack of coffee on board.

SS WINDROSE

Kai probably won't approach his crew without reason (like information gathering). Most of his time will be spent either exercising or lounging, so feel free to assume your character has seen him doing crazy repetitions of crunches or...pretending the world doesn't exist lazing about on his bunk. Otherwise, he'll probably poke around the armory and explore the ship itself. HE'S A SUPER UNSOCIAL PIECE OF SHIT, i'm sorry.

oh ETA: he has a tin of blue face paint he probably keeps with his things by the bunk, TOUCH IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

if not stealing robin's bed like an asshole one can easily assume michael is practically living in the armory. he isn't the most social at the moment, but yeah, there you go.
