shopping; well hello there
How about this one?
[Yep, he sure is holding up a gas mask that closely resembles a donkey.] A little more fitting, wouldn't you say?
[Arthur himself has a plain black gas mask, functionality winning over decadence for him.]
hello hello. o/ it's nice to see inception players : D
I'll wear it if you buy it for me.
[Mostly so he could try and resell it but still.]
Of all the masks they have, you chose that one?
[He gestured towards the plain one on Arthur's face. Good to see some things never changed.]
yessss c:
You'll wear it for two seconds and then pawn it off on someone else.
[He sighs, adjusting his mask.]
It fits, it works, it was cheap. Why spend more than I have to?
[He glances back up at him, trying very hard to hide the relief in his face at finally having an ally here.] You could have told me you were here.
[Because obviously it's Eames' fault that he didn't know he was here.]
no subject
True enough. Maybe we should cut out the middle man and you can just give me credits.
[The answer to his question was so very Arthur that it only made Eames shake his head, no point in answering, half-amused and half-exasperated.
That second bit however... Eames shot him a flippant look, corners of his eyes crinkling.]
I figured your pointman senses tingled as soon as I touched down.
[But, a bit more seriously:]
Is any of this even real? I can't recall how I got here.
no subject
[It's strange, saying that. But Eames does by this point. As much research as Arthur does, he doesn't trust a vague answer entirely. He wanders closer, not able to resist issuing him a challenge, his voice low.]
If you can steal the jackal mask without getting caught, I'll give you some credits.
[Because as much as Eames likes to call him a stick in the mud, as much as he's been holding back on thieving, he enjoys the thrill of it. He smirks at him, waiting for Eames to accept the challenge.]
no subject
[The question was seemingly an idle one, but Eames was genuinely curious. He didn't doubt the other man, but he was also keen on forming his own opinion, even if it was highly likely he was going to come to the same conclusion. Still, if he couldn't remember getting here, what if his totem had been compromised? And making a totem in a dream world would defeat the purpose of it. Guess it meant going old school.
He broken out of his thoughts at the challenge, turning to give Arthur a slightly incredulous look.]
Are they that harsh on stealing here?
[It was a slight tease, but also he wanted to know what he was going to get into. He wouldn't want to steal on a moon that say, chopped of the hands of a thief, even if he was pretty sure in his skills.]
no subject
[He shakes his head at the second question.]
They make you play friendly war games. Not a very effective deterrent in my opinion. Do you need a distraction?
[He knows Eames doesn't need the help, but it's fun to poke back now and then.]
no subject
Only here for a month and a half and you're offering to be a distraction for me? I'm touched.
[Eames gave a small grin, before waving off the offer.]
I want to earn my keep fair and square. I've already gotten one hand out today.
[He gestured vaguely to the mask on his face before drifting a bit away from Arthur as if to browse, keeping the shop keeper in his periphery.]
no subject
Meanwhile, Arthur wanders over across the way, in sight and with a view of Eames, but not distracting. He watches him with sharp eyes with a hint of excitement glimmering in them.]
no subject
Did he still have the touch or did the odd shape of his jacket give him away?]
no subject
He puts down the item in his hand and strolls after Eames, his hands in his pockets. When he's turned the corner, he's caught up with Eames.] Well done.
I'll transfer the credits onto your account when I get back.
[He pauses, watching him with something as close to fondness as he's ever conveyed with Eames.] I'm working on a few projects that I might require help with.
no subject
He grinned when he spotted Arthur, the surprising praise boosting his mood. However, at the mention of business, he reigned it in, expression sobering. Casually, he went to swap the mask he had just stolen with the one he was wearing.]
What sort of projects?
[It was just like Arthur to never let himself be idle, and he was curious as to what he was working on.]
no subject
[And that's where Eames comes in.]
The second... it's a more personal project. There's a woman here. I want to clear it with her before telling you everything, but it's going to be complicated.
[And he could use Eames' brains.]
no subject
[Eames said with a grin, fluttering his eyelashes teasingly. Still, it was always nice to have his more positive traits pointed out.
The second part however made him frown slightly, head canted to the side.]
Complicated because it involves a woman or because it's personal for the both of you?
no subject
[And then his eyebrows raise at the last part.]
No, it's... not like that.
[If Eames can read Arthur (though he's trying to hide it), he kind of adores this woman. Romantic or not, not even Arthur really knows.)] I thought perhaps we could use our knowledge on the subconscious to help her. She... has something awful inside her.
no subject
[He also looked completely convinced when Arthur stated 'it wasn't like that' because it was just like Arthur to be completely selfless when it came to extracting awful things from people. It was already starting to sound like it was going to be dangerous and a lot of work, things Eames didn't mind so long as he was briefed properly.
He gave Arthur a flat look, mouth a thin line.]
Awful as in it will rip us to pieces or awful as in it will give us terrible nightmares the rest of our lives?
no subject
[Which annoys him to no end. He sighs and returns to his request about the shipmates.]
There are a lot of people here. All from different worlds, possibly alternate universes. There are a lot of people who shouldn't be here. Children. There seem to be a lot of fighters, though, too. There's a man who looks like your twin, [he says, just casually dropping that bomb on him.] Except his mouth doesn't flap around all the time. [Which is kind of annoying tbh]
no subject
[It was a serious question, mostly because if it wasn't a monster or implanting ideas in other peoples' heads, there wasn't much use for a PASIV. While Eames was slightly disheartened that they couldn't go the easy route for a job like this, it didn't mean they had to cobble together a substitute. For one, Eames wasn't sure he could replicate a PASIV even if he had all the working parts, but perhaps Arthur was different.
The mention of 'children' made Eames frown slightly, but he tucked that thought away at the mention of a twin.]
So you're saying I'm the more attractive one?
[Still, color Eames curious.]
no subject
[Did he just sort of admit Eames was attractive?? Never mind that.]
It's... [He sighs. He's going to just have to reveal what's going on and damn the consequences.] She probably does need therapy, but that's not what this is about.
I'm trying to extract the essence of a being from her. There's magic and all this weird shit in her world, and some 'Lord of Murder' put part of himself inside her. And he's trying to take control of her.
[YEAH THAT'S... a lot to swallow, sorry, Eames.]
no subject
[What they could be, he couldn't be sure, but if someone looked like him he was going to give them the benefit of the doubt.
He stopped walking when Arthur explained, mostly so he could have full dramatic effect when he started rubbing his temples ( even if they were hidden under the mask ). Monsters he knew it.]
Sorry, but if this involves someone named 'Lord of Murder', I'm not helping for free.
[He wasn't selfless, after all.]
no subject
[He's really not sure what's up with him, but he has a feeling life is rough for him.
He stops as Eames does, resisting the urge to rub his own temples.]
I didn't expect you to.
[Honestly, he didn't think he'd do any of it for free, because Arthur doesn't expect anything from Eames. Favors were paid back, everything was even between them. He doesn't even know if he and Eames are friends.]
I'll compensate you.
no subject
[It was said lightly enough, but Eames would make a note to seek out this twin of his to see for himself.
The idea of compensation didn't make the idea any easier to swallow, and Eames shook his head, starting off again.]
Let me meet her and make my own decisions. I want to see if it's worth it to even risk it fighting a Lord of Murder.
no subject
[The job ("job". He's not even getting paid for it.) just reeks of danger and bad ideas. And Eames usually doesn't just help people for free. Arthur's expression is even, patient, curious, but carefully controlled.]
no subject
He shot the other man a small smirk, enigmatic and smug.]
It never hurts to have you in my debt, does it?
no subject
[It's a weak comeback, but it does the job for now. He rolls up his sleeves (there are probably still a few bruises on his arms from war games), and then fidgets with his mask.] Can we go inside somewhere?
[He'd feel much more in control if he could get this thing off his face.]
