[ Even with keeping his identity so tightly under wraps, Clark couldn't even picture a world with acceptance. He never had faith, just the need to do more.
Until Lois came. ]
It is your world, no matter what it is like.

[Derailed off flirting, his hand slides into his pocket, pulling out a photo wallet.]
My little girl, Jenny, she's starting to fly on her own. I'm so proud of her. Wanna see?
no subject
I'd love to.

[ He opens up the wallet to show a little girl of about five or six, with asian features, dark hair and eyes and a slight crackle of a pale blue energy about her hands and feet. ]
Her parents were killed during the attack on the hospital to steal her. Midnighter and I decided we'd raise her. Well, the team raised her, but we're her Dads. I didn't really want to at first. I never wanted to be responsible for another life like that. I was sure I'd do it horribly wrong but Midnighter reminded me all I had to do was love her and tear apart anything that tried to hurt her and it didn't seem as terrifying.
[ The next photo is said little girl being held by a woman who looks to be made of liquid metal, both wearing plastic tiaras. ]
That's Angie. She was my best man when we got married. And more tolerant of tea parties than I ever am.

But he knew the answer to that. ]
Sounds like the perfect family.

[He closes the photo wallet before the next one, closing his eyes and head bowed. He knows what that photo is.]
I thought it was, too.
[ He looks up with a brief smile. ]
Sorry. I still get a bit maudlin about the separation.

[ Even with the best of intentions, it can still hurt. ]

Yeah. We've been together for as long as I can remember. Not, actually involved, but when I came out of the procedure, he was coming out too. Him walking out was a bit of a shock. Still is, even a year on.
no subject
[ It's genuine, even though there's little else Clark could say. ]
no subject
Thanks. Still, here's me being disgustingly emotional about someone who isn't even here. I mean, we've all been kidnapped for a space reality show, I probably have more to worry about than my loser ex.

I can forgive what he did to me better than Jenny, y'know? She's never been without him, even when I was being held captive, she had him. Walk out on me? Okay. But I couldn't walk out on her.
no subject
They all walked away. He glances away briefly, pushing his glasses up. ]
It's . . . always complicated. Even good reasons come with a price. I'm sure whatever you did for her . . . she was grateful.

What about... your family?
no subject
[ He's not particularly miffed about it. ]
My real family had to give me up due to a . . . crisis to their homeland.

no subject
I did. The very best.
no subject
Wow, don't you look about a thousand times more handsome when you smile like that.
no subject
Since I don't have a mirror, I'll have to take your word for it.

[ He flickers around Clark with a soft glow of sunlight and stops back in front of him a second after he moved. ]
You sure I can't help you get that mud off?

Regardless, I am going to go and clean off. I'll see you later.

[ An odd thing to say and it feels strange to say, to have something constant in his life. ]

[ Apollo lifts into the air and streaks off at speed, a golden halo lighting him up as he vanishes. ]
no subject
For now, he'll bask in the sun and slip away. ]
