Now Approaching...
It has been a couple of weeks since the departure from the Toxic Moon, leaving its inhabitants with a hope and a prayer, drifting through very silent space toward the unknown. Augments have been acting up, passengers have been restless and frustrated, and all this time, your gracious hosts have been silent. It almost seems as though the Marsiva is putting purposeful distance between the Fleet and that now-altered moon, and is heading out toward some distant goal far from the well-beaten path.
Starting 6/23, a new star system finally comes into range, with only one planet that gleams like a gem in the middle of nothingness.
CALENDAR:
→ The Drift Fleet will be in this star system from 6/23 to 7/31.
→ There are no additional mod posts for this planet currently planned. This is more of a laid back, “open sandbox” style event, with various things to explore and play with for the duration of the plot.
THE SINGING PLANETS.

Even from a distance, the verdant forests dominating the surface of the world give it a remarkable, brilliant green appearance. In fact, it may seem familiar to the old hands of the Fleet--a similar color to a couple of worlds that they've visited before, and a similar buzz of interference washes across the comms as the Fleet comes within range. This hum can only be traced to somewhere on the planet's surface, and pervades every frequency. At first, it seems to only be static, but with enough time and dedication there just might be something else in there. Something... almost musical in the snatches of half formed words.
The last time something like this was seen by the Fleet was in May of last year, when a magic forest brought out the Fleet's more magical residents, beckoning them down to spend the night among the woods. This world lacks the veritable ocean of greenery that that world had, but draws the mind back even further to the first of these similar emerald planets.
For those who hadn't encountered the magic-and-wilderness-rich worlds before, they will see a world which seems the very definition of an enchanted forest. The trees are healthy and absolutely towering, covering a vast variety of greens and browns. And there's something in the air, a breathless anticipation, maybe, an expectation of something more, something that can't be seen. Something magical.
WELCOME!
Due to the dense forest on this planet, only large cities along the coasts have enough space available to land an entire spaceship in areas called "landing piers". Settlements further inland only have enough landing space for a shuttle or two. Otherwise, passengers will need to use local transport to travel to remote locations.
The landing piers look exactly as they sound, like a series of large piers and docks that stretch across the ocean. Some are small and straightforward, while others are large enough to house their own neighborhoods. Local authorities will ask the crews to land their ships in the water much like they would a boat. Taking in water shouldn't be an issue for any of the ships, but it's not unheard of for a ship that hasn't been well maintained to suddenly spring a leak. Or ten. Good luck, pilots.
When passengers finally get out of their ships, the first thing to notice is that the pier is full of life. There are open air markets, fishermen, food stalls, and lots of other signs of habitation. A few larger piers even seem to have something like old-fashioned Earthling carnivals. Past the piers, there is a line of beach before the tall forest starts. The beaches can be rocky or sandy depending on where ships are landed, if anyone decides to go for a swim.
GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE: The planet is covered with vast, towering forests, taller than the passengers’ eyes can see. From the soft dirt floors to the lush canopies, the atmosphere reads as mild and pleasant. The weather is calm, moderately warm, and far more at-peace than the Fleet’s last destination. In the deeper reaches of the woods, the land stretches up into forested mountains--one of which might just be a little hotter than the Fleet is comfortable with. And unlike most of the Fleet's past destinations (but just like the previous Singing Planets), this planet is not terraformed.
SETTLEMENTS: While businesses and markets line the forest floor, many of them set into the trunks of the gargantuan trees, and above the visitors’ heads winds an elaborate network of treehouses. They’re simple and wooden, connected by swaying bridges woven from living treematter, and the residents spend much of their time congregating on the large balconies, lit by paper lanterns. At the heart of the forest lies a beautiful palace, where two benevolent queens live in relative mystery. Rumor has it that they landed in a ship of their own, ages ago, but no one tells quite the same story.
PEOPLE: Similar to the human-adjacent citizens of many previous terraformed planets, the majority of the people native to the Hand-Holding Planet have coppery skin and light hair, though individual variation is still plentiful. Their culture involves a notable level of public physical affection--they are almost always seen holding hands and embracing in the streets. Due to the emotional exchange these actions entail (see below), they have a few rules about extended physical interaction with off-worlders. However, they are still a very friendly, gregarious population, and passengers may find themselves suddenly roped into an unexpected hug or two, and their hands snatched up by guides as they are toured around. The local attire is simple and earthy, made to be durable and easily cleaned, and many Fleet members will find it’s far more reminiscent of their homes than that of previous destinations.
WILDLIFE: Much like the previous Singing Planets, the wildlife population here is very diverse and... familiar. While they aren’t exactly the same, the plants and animals are startling reminiscent of species that passengers might find on their own worlds, or other known worlds. It may not be an uncommon sight to see something that looks strangely similar to a turtleduck munching on what could only be elfroot, for example. In highly populated areas, the animal population tends to be docile and kept fairly in check by the locals. However, if passengers trek into remote areas of the wilderness, they might find hauntingly-familiar doppelgangers of their own most dangerous species--even of the extinct variety.
TECHNOLOGY: The tech of this planet appears simple, and magic is far more prized than machine. The citizens are quite familiar with space-travel and other higher technologies, but the shops and homes are equipped with only fireplaces and lanterns. Some affluent and immigrant residents boast simple electric devices--lamps, sewing machines, or the odd gramophone--or running water, but these things are too expensive for (and seem to often be shunned by) the rest of the population.
EMPLOYMENT: Local artisans and vendors could always use a hand, and passengers will likely find work in one of the shops or markets if they ask nicely. There are also plenty of positions available at the inns and taverns, if the hospitality industry is more their taste. If a passenger is skilled with a weapon, they can try their hand at hunting for game with some of the villagers. And high in the treetops, those with manual labor skills can spend their days constructing and repairing the buildings high above the forest floor (assuming that the height isn't a problem for them). If none of these positions sound appealing, passengers can always try to sell their own goods or services--just don’t expect a high paycheck. The Hand Holding people are high on compliments, but fairly low on cash.
LODGING: If passengers would like to work off some of that cabin fever and stay on the planet instead of cooped up in their bunks, there are a couple of options. A cozy room can be rented in an inn, where warm meals and good company will be provided, or passengers can strike off towards the treetops and rent a tiny treehouse of their very own, with space for one or two (or three, if you really want to get cozy). The residents of the Hand-Holding Planet adore visitors, and will treat every passengers as one of their own--to a possibly uncomfortable extent. Those seeking privacy may want to put those “Do Not Disturb” signs to good use.
SHOPPING: The majority of the shops sell simple handmade items--linen clothes, scented candles, knitted blankets, hearty pies, and anything and everything a person can think of made out of wood. From furniture to tableware to annoying mechanical clocks, the Fleet will have its pick of rustic products made from fine, possibly-enchanted trees. The local cuisine is something that no one will want to pass up, consisting of warm soups and breads, nutty pastries, mammoth vegetables, and mead by the barrel. It’s all fairly cheap, but unfortunately, the local merchants aren’t equipped to take the Fleet’s credits. Passengers will have to earn their own spending money, which... happens to look a lot like acorns.
POINTS OF INTEREST.
THE “HAND-HOLDING” PLANET:
The planet's actual name is "Hea-Guaa," but no one really calls it that. This place has a reputation for the glowing hospitality and friendliness of its people, and the Fleet will very quickly learn that its more popular nickname, "The Hand-Holding Planet," is very well deserved. The people here are known to casually hold hands with whoever they happen to be spending time with at the moment, regardless of their relationship or previous history. Casual physical contact is very common, accepted, and encouraged--even with outsiders! The inhabitants will limit extensive or extended physical contact with off-worlders, but they will try to hold hands while strolling in public, and will hug anyone who lingers long enough to say more than a few words to them. The passengers are advised to not be alarmed by this behavior, or offend their hosts with undue rudeness. It's just their culture, after all!
There's more to this hand-holding and general touchy-feely behavior than simple friendliness, however. On this particular planet, physical contact initiates a mental "sharing" experience between people--and that goes for both natives and people who are visiting! The inhabitants of this planet are completely used to it, and most are kind enough to warn outsiders about the phenomenon when they think to do so, as outsiders tend to find it jarring at first. They have manners, after all, and there are some minor rules/etiquette (both formal and informal) concerning the whole thing, but that encouragement to be nice and hold hands is still very prevalent.
The mental connection effects can be played with at will. Previous connection between passengers may play a factor in how much any affect presents itself, as well as the extent/length of time they're in contact. Overall, it is largely up to each player how the effects manifest at any time:
CUTE LITTLE FURRY THINGS:
While most of wildlife is reminiscent of other worlds, there is also some unique biodiversity to be seen. One animal unique to this planet is the Fluff Slug! These adorable lumps of fluff come in many different colors and are extremely soft to pet. The fluff slug has two subspecies:
If one or two fluff slugs aren't enough, a popular vacation spot is Fluff Island, a very small island off the coast of the most-populated continental mainland. Due to some ancient ecological events that removed the predators, the fluff slug population of both subspecies has exploded on this island, making the place practically covered in them. This island can be reached via shuttle or boat, and has the decor of any cutesy tourist trap.
It should also be noted that while the Fluff Slug is soothing to most people, a very small percentage of passengers may have the opposite reaction to them, and find the creatures' empathic energy to be downright irritating. This irritation is not strong enough to overrule their emotional judgement or reasoning, but it's still present. Our sympathies go out to any unlucky passengers that find they are allergic to these adorable and plentiful beasts.
ACTIVE VOLCANO:
There is one more thing that might be worth looking into out here in the most mountainous region of the forest: an active volcano! Tall enough to be visible from quite a distance, its beauty and danger have brought many a curious soul to investigate. There are educational, guided hiking tours that travel up the mountain, geared for both visitors and local schoolchildren. For more experienced explorers and spelunkers, the occasional trek is made to gather resources from and/or research the area.
Though all tests point to it being in no danger of erupting anytime within the next century, this volcano still houses a large underground pool of magma with several known branches in radiating directions. This high geothermic activity affects the environment around it, especially in the mineral content of the soil and water. In several places, there are also pockets of geothermally-heated groundwater seeps that have been forced to the surface. Some of these water pools are hot enough to be scalding (at minimum), and the natives will warn visitors against venturing into any pools that are already known to be unsafe. But, what about the others...?
Many entrepreneurs in the area have taken advantage of these mineral-enriched warm-water pools, sprucing them up and marketing them as natural hot springs for public use. Access to the hot springs can range from practical and affordable (public parks, smaller inns), to luxurious and expensive (huge, lavish resorts and spas). Some natives even swear by their natural healing powers and benefits. Visitors are more than welcome--and, in fact, highly encouraged--to try out these hot springs for themselves. So while everyone is going around holding hands and making friends, perhaps some passengers could enjoy a trip to the hot springs together! Who knows, maybe they'll come out feeling more rejuvenated than ever!
A PRESENT FROM THE PLANET:
The deep forests of this planet are naturally shrouded in mystery, and tales of them are spun with no small amount of magic and wonder. However, there is one forest landmark that by all accounts should be something out of a myth... But the strange story is as real and as matter-of-fact as the daily weather forecasts.
Somewhere on this planet is a tree that gives "gifts" to people who visit it and present a very particular "offering." Located a good day's journey away by foot from most coastal villages, families and couples traditionally travel there for birthdays and anniversaries. According to them (and some tourist-friendly media), if you stand near the tree and hold hands with someone for long enough, you'll find yourself in possession of something you didn't have before--something important to your life's journey.
Anyone is welcome to visit, and the path is fairly well-marked. Whether passengers are interested in earning a gift, want to simply investigate the magical phenomenon for themselves, or are being dragged to the tree against their will by someone else... they will know it when they see it.
The tree itself is actually three trees that have long-since grown and twisted together into a massive, thick-trunked giant. Its bark is pale, almost shining silver in the warm sun. Its leaves are a dark red, out of place in a forest of greens and tropical colors. There are no other trees growing in the wide shade beneath its leaves, but tall grass and colorful wildflowers bloom around it in abundance. Passengers who possess any sort of magic, or the ability to sense such supernatural things, will feel that this tree is unsettlingly familiar--and even non-magical passengers may feel a trace of something otherworldly and nostalgic around it.
Passengers hoping to receive gifts must stand before the tree and hold hands and exchange some thoughts, feelings, or emotions with another person to earn their prize. The exact length of time they have to do this may vary, ranging from several seconds to a full half-hour. (One famous folk-tale tells of a couple who held hands for three days before they got their gift--the gift of learning that they didn't actually like each other enough to be stuck together for more than three days!)
The tree will only give each passenger one gift during their stay on the planet, so while they are welcome to try doing it more than once... they won't receive anything for repeat attempts.
The gift a character receives can be either:
Each person will only hear their own respective songs… however, they can hold hands again to share what their songs sound like to other people, if they wish. The sound will fade as they depart from the tree again.

And THANK YOU ALL again for all of your incredible patience during the heavy-duty renovations that have been going on behind the scenes of this game! These changes have been a little straining for all of us, but you've all been fantastic during every bit of it. From everyone who has chipped in to work on this plot (the whole team, now!) we are grateful to all of you for being so encouraging and kind! You make running this game a delight!
Enjoy!

The mental connection effects can be played with at will. Previous connection between passengers may play a factor in how much any affect presents itself, as well as the extent/length of time they're in contact. Overall, it is largely up to each player how the effects manifest at any time:
- Communication: Passengers who are "sharing" have an easier time understanding one another. If those in contact are close friends already, physical touch could mean that they may not even need to be actually speaking to understand one another! True sentiments behind words tend to become clearer, and differing points of view more become more easily understood.
- Feelings: The sharing of feelings through hand-holding or other physical contact can vary in intensity over quite a wide range. On the lighter end, it could be nothing more than a hint of what each other is feeling, like a vague sense of understanding. On the other extreme, if the connection is strong enough for whatever reason, characters could experience clear, vivid pangs of emotion that could even go so far as to mix with or override their own for a brief amount of time.
- Memories: Occasionally, memories can sneak across the hand-holding bridge between characters. In most scenarios, these memories tend to be as minor as simple feelings of déjà vu, often from specific triggers. Perhaps the surrounding forest seems familiar for a reason they can't quite place, or a haunting childhood feeling results from observing an interaction nearby. However, with enough prolonged contact and focus, short memories could be "remembered" clearly by the other person involved, with nearly the level of clarity that they would have for their own memories.
- The Aquatic Fluff Slugs are found in the planet's oceans, most commonly in warm water and forest reefs. These guys have thick fur that helps them repel water and insulate, giving them a slightly sleeker look. Aquatic Fluff Slugs tend to be larger than Forest Fluff Slugs, but not by much.
- The Forest Fluff Slugs are found in the planet’s forests all around the world. These guys have an extra fluffy fur coat that makes them a delightful (and dry!) creature to pet. Size-wise, they can range anywhere from the size of a mouse to the average size of a rabbit.
The gift a character receives can be either:
- An item from home. This thing should be small enough that the passenger can easily carry it back to their ship, and either appears in front of them or in their pocket while they are near the tree. This item cannot be something hugely useful, a dangerous weapon, or replace something that an upgrade might supply. Weapons that have been powered way down or made harmless are allowed. Pets from home are a possibility, but those will be decided upon on a case-by-case basis! So, please feel free to run your ideas by us in the QUESTIONS section below if you would like a mod ruling on something.
- A change to their ship. Players can choose either an addition/change that is instantly applied to the ship itself, or the supplies needed for characters to do some sort of alteration themselves. Characters can come back to find different paints, artwork waiting to be put up, or stumble upon some new furniture in the cargo bay, for example. Again, the ship gifts cannot be weaponry, or replace something supplied by upgrades. Duplications or small additions to upgrades they already have (such as a second microwave, extra flavors of protein, or wider/brighter hallways) are all okay. More powerful shields, extra weapons, or a more advanced lab are examples of things that would probably not be okay. Check with us in the QUESTIONS section if you aren't sure! All ship additions should be submitted to our Ship Addition Post.

Enjoy!

Okay, so the planet's inhabitants. How much access does a critter who can dream-hop have to their dreams and mental worlds, and what do those dreams/minds look like?
correlary, kind of: is the giving tree self-aware at all? i don't know what i'mma do if it is, it's just something bill would be curious about.

Plotting /o/
Once given a clean bill of health she's going to explore anything and everything, shop, and drag various people on sailing trips with her because OCEANNN
that doesn't have psychotic clouds hovering over it.Katie will be vanishing into the forest, visiting the gift-giving tree, and otherwise probably going to explore the volcano up close because she can. She's amenable to turning up anywhere attracted to the sounds of people.
Makie ... will be staying close to home and maybe picking up a job playing the shamisen for one of the inns.
Things I am up for:
1) Any hand holding/communication/feelings/memories for any of my girls
2) Nami dragging you sailing/shopping
3) Katie punting a dinosaur at some point because why not.
4) anything you can think of, hit me up!

Sascha & Jihwan
So I am totally up for any and all plotting, holy moley??? This planet is FANTASTIC.
For Sascha:
hunting kurtFor Jihwan:

BUT I'm all for some opening up and exchange stuff. Maybe they can get a better feel on how they're more similar than they thought. :3

Shinji Ikari
He will not be staying on the Heron for the duration of this event. He's pretty freaked out about the whole Winter rampage thing, so he needs a break. He'll be getting odd jobs in the marketplace (courier, shelf stocker, and so on) and renting an inn room. Maybe later on he'll get his own little treehouse. If anyone from the Heron needs him to fly the ship somewhere, he can be contacted to do that.
He will be buying a fluff slug of his own at some point. Help him decide which color to get.
For emotions/memory sharing, Shinji is a freaking mess. If you're interested in fear, trauma, self-loathing, or Evangelion's endlessly weird scenes, running into Shinji in the street could be a thing that happens.
Hot springs? Hot springs.
I'm open to any other ideas or suggestions. Feel free to reach out to me on Plurk (
Ordis
Ordis is going to be a fish out of water, only somewhat literally. He's never actually been to a planet before in his entire existence, beyond landing a space ship on them. Turns out seeing trees is a lot different than actually being near them. There is a lot of room for him awkwardly having to shadow people to try to figure out what even is anything and how to survive when things aren't highly regulated and made of metal.
The lack of tech also means he's going to be floundering everywhere. What do you mean there are no transponder what do you mean no ships what is this wat.
For emotions and memory sharing, ohhh boy. In canon, Ordis has hella memory glitches and has seen Some Shit (ranging from being torn apart by scavengers to being betrayed by the only other two cephalons he's ever met to finding out that yes bioweapons can indeed infect computers), so if that's something that you're interested in poking in to, lemme know. On the other hand, he's also dealt with slobbery space puppies and incredibly dumb rhyming mystery games, so that's also an option to keep things lighter. I'm all for either one!
And for all that he hates things that shed or drool or generally cause a mess, I think he's probably going to eventually be completely charmed by the slugs and probably will end up taking one home. Therapy slug, ahoy!
Pinkie Pie
IC, Pinkie'll be soooo happy that they were able to help the moon, and to be on a planet with FRESH AIR! She's diving off the pier and into the water the second they land! And then she'll be exploring ALL THE THINGS! So many new places to see and people to meet and OH MY GOSH THERE ARE SALADS HERE GIVE HER A SALAD! (It's bad if she's actually craving something that isn't a dessert.) And SO MANY HUGS AND HANDHOLDING if you need an exploring buddy who'll literally give you warm, fuzzy feelings feel free to hit me up.
She'll still be keeping up with ship maintenance and the comms in the mornings, but most days she'll be EVERYWHERE planetside. Her next big project will be garden beds for the Caprine now that they have access to wood and good soil, so she'll also probably flit about between jobs at the eateries or the carnival to pay for things. (And to sample the fare for free~)
Plotting!
He'll also be collecting seeds of plants with medicinal uses (yay elfroot but also anything else he's pointed towards as useful) since he can make poultices out of them.
As for anything else, I'm up for whatever! Anyone wanna hold hands under the gift-giving tree??? Let's share some memories/feelings/thoughts and maybe a nutty pastry or two.

ALSO if Anders fancies a healing buddy, Hermione is going to be looking for healing herbs too, so they could definitely become bros there? C:

also, he'll get lucky and be allergic to the fluff slugs. you thought he was grumpy now, wait till you give him one of the slugs and he ends up getting even more irritatingly solemn.
no subject
so Margaery Tyrell, Cisco Ramon & Steve Rogers are all free for handholding if you want to plot for it! for any other fun threads, I made a catch-all for them here you may toss some prompts there or attack my open ones!
besides that Cisco is holding a tiki beach party next weekend on the 1st of July! expect alcohol, dancing and exotic fruit. I'll make a reminder post about it come next week but if anyone wants to join him in planning the party, everyone is welcome to!
hermione, lauralae & raven
LAURALAE literally cannot have anyone touch her hands or they get serious pain, but she's working on that so she might be able to be convinced to touch other areas, or let someone else touch her above the wrist. Otherwise, she's going to be skulking around the forests if anyone really wants to talk to her.
RAVEN is going to avoid most people but she's free to plot with! Want to see Charles Xavier embarrassing himself in Oxford? Hit her up. Want to see that time she almost assassinated a president? Let's DO IT. She might start to walk around a bit more blue, too, so if you'd like some BlueRaven please let me know c:

also lyds and hermione should share other world memories

Kitty Pryde
• She will need to go to this tree and get a thing out of curiosity if nothing else. I'm thinking it will be a photo of her parents from her home before everything was destroyed.
• She is going to be the rudest as natives come up and their hands slip right through her like she's not there. Once she knows people though she fights that impulse. She may also fight it to get tips and such because...
• I'm thinking she'll bartend for money! She may ALSO try her hand at building stuff or hunting game. I think she'll want to build up some funds because...
• She'll probably try to keep her and Winn staying there on the planet instead of being on the ships since she had little interest in being on the poison moon so she's a little stir crazy.
• She will be up for exploring and may run into some dinosaurs because why not?
• I am so up for understandings/feelings/memory swapping with anyone and everyone. Not that she's always going to be hot to hold hands, but I imagine as the month goes on she'll find it more normalized. Then again she'll probably also be concerned about subjecting people to her memories.
I'm up for all the things with new and existing CR!

Hux
Hux is going to be exploring around the planet so he's free for handholding shenanigans of all sorts. He's not big on invasion of his personal space so this ought to be fun.
He's most likely that asshole who gets irritated by the Fluff Slugs and is allergic to them as well. I'm open to all sorts of new CR, bring it on!

Adalwolfe Hawk | Plotting!
Other things I'd like to play with:
- Fighting a
flightless dragondinosaur- Gathering Elfroot, both plants and seeds, for the Iskaulit's garden (and Tyrion's budding hydroponics setup. That'll probably be his gift for Tyrion)
- Getting potions made from said Elfroot to contribute to the fleetwide first aid kits. (/looks at Anders)
- HOT SPRINGS
- BEACH
- Potentially holding hands with people to get a boon from the Giving Tree? Not totally sure on this yet
- Buying ALL THE DELICIOUS THINGS and sharing with his shipmates (maybe a mingle?)
- Decorating his room with local stuff
And of course I'm always happy for any CR, new or old, positive or negative!
no subject
The planet might wear thin on him, however, since he's one of the many touch-shy people aboard the fleet and will likely suffer a small panic attack or two after one too many people try to be friendly with him. You are free to try and hold his hand, though expect exchanges to be brief.
He may try for a trip out to the giving tree but there are very few people he would trust with that task.
Otherwise, for an outgoing person he's shockingly private so who knows.
