I ended up with a great foster family, too. I have a sister, named Alex, and her parents have always been really good to me.

So, you're lucky. There's an actual sun near this moon, even if it's pretty muddled by the pollution. The last place we docked had artificial light and it did nothing for me. I was totally tapped out. This is at least a little better.

[ He looks down at his hands, clenching his fist. ]

It's strange. I've always had to be extremely careful. Now, I'm not sure what the limits are.

Well, I'd never actually want to fight you, but at least I'm close to your level, probably.

Especially if you're that new at all of this. I've been holding my own lately, at home.

[ He's pretty sure anyone could beat him. He's just invulnerable to the many attempts to try. ]

My first fight did not go well. I'm willing to learn some pointers.

A lot of people got hurt. I had hoped that Zod would change his mind. That he might reconsider. I took my doubts into the fight.

[ He won't do that again. ]

It was my fault.

[ she does sympathize with this scenario... but is willing to let him finish telling his story before jumping in ]

[ He hesitates before continuing. ]

General Zod. He planned the coup on Krypton. And he killed Jor-El.

[ that information surprises her. it doesn't align with what she knows, but it could be true, regardless of dimension ]

Oh. I don't know anything about that...

My father told me.

[ Which sounds weird, but Kara could probably understand how. ]

I had his key and he explained what happened to Krypton.

I have a hologram of my mother, too. Kind of in the form of an encyclopedia, but there's something... comforting about her image, even if I could scream every time it says "I'm not programmed with that information".

[ He nods knowingly. ]

I lost the key some time ago. So I'm on my own.

That's terrible. I'm so sorry to hear that, Clark.

[anewhope]

[ He smiles faintly. ]

Thanks. But I was lucky enough to talk to him to begin with.

What would've been lucky would be if we weren't in this situation to begin with, some days.

That isn't to say I'm not appreciative of the life I've made. And maybe it's different for you. You never really knew anything besides Earth...

[ That's true. All he knew were the brief glimpses his father showed him. He was grateful for those, but he had wanted more. More than a legacy on his shoulders. ]

You must miss it a lot.

As if middle school isn't awkward enough.

[ she goes for the joke but her heart's not really in it. she doesn't get to talk about this stuff very often. she doesn't want to make alex feel bad, and the others just don't really get it ]

[ And he smiles warmly, albeit a little bashful. ]

And I would love to hear about Krypton. If you ever feel like talking about it.

I'd like to tell you about it sometime.

But right now, tell me about you? How long have you been at the Superman thing?

[anewhope]

A few weeks? Not very long by anyone's reckoning.

[ And he's still getting the hang of it, from the way he fiddles with his glasses or trying to think on his feet for the best excuse. When he helped people before, he just walked out of their lives. Disappeared, like a ghost. Now, he's here to stay and he wants it to work.

With Lois, with the Planet, with . . . everyone. ]

The glasses, though, really. They're just for the disguise? Mine are lined in lead, since I'd get overwhelmed when I was younger.

I never realized that.

[ For him, it was just a matter of teaching himself restraint. Then make it small, his mother had said and that's what Clark had done. Every single instinct, every bit of power he has forced down as deeply as he could. A world small enough for himself and his family.
