Drifting, Devices, and Glitches - oh my!
Ships repaired and wounds mended, by the end of the day the Marsiva begins to move out of the system and into parts unknown. The standard waystations are along the way as usual, and interstellar traffic slowly picks up as to a medium crawl as the fleet travels this week.
Revisiting the Devices.
Now that the emergency has passed and the ships are flying through peaceful space, there’s time to reflect on what happened. During the fight, several passengers had a chance to speak with the long illusive other fleet. By now, word has spread throughout the fleet about the content of those conversations. Three main conclusions seem to be arising:
Those looking for a solution to the communication problem may remember the bugging devices that were found on the ships back in August and had been scrambling communication with Atroma. If any Engineers, Communications Officers, Pilots, or Maintenance Personnel have one handy (either because they held onto it, or they found one left on their ship somehow), they may be able to tinker with it to get it to work again, and this time with the means of piggybacking on the signal.
Once they do, they will find that any communications from Atroma to their ship is scrambled and unable to get through. Not only that, but if they look closely, they might notice a new personal frequency has been added to the ship’s list of contacts, one that doesn’t match the pattern of the fleet’s frequencies.
Where this frequency comes from is untraceable, and there’s no response if a message is sent out. It could be a dead end, or even a trap: but maybe, just maybe, it’s a way to get in contact with the other fleet.
Ship-wide Glitches.
However, there are consequences to activating one of these devices. Any ship that activates a device will find that by the next day, their crew is experiencing more augment glitches than usual. The glitches in question are mild for now, lasting no more than a day.
The types of possible glitches are as follows:
Anyone on the crew that activated a device can be affected (or not affected). It doesn’t matter if they had no part in the device activation or not. They can happen anytime during the course of the drift week, and a passenger could be affected by more than one. Whether it be from the device interfering with the augment somehow or Atroma attempting to punish you, it’s hard to say.
Scheduling Note.
The fleet will be in drift from 2/01 til 2/07. Whether or not a ship activates a device is entirely optional, as well as if a character is affected by a glitch. There’s going to be more glitch options available later this month with the system plot, so stay tune! Regular augment glitches can still occur in addition to these glitches, so don’t worry if you had one already planned/going on.
If a ship is going to activate a device, please comment in the Ship section to let us know. Also if you can include any messages they would send through that private frequencies, that’d be great too. This will be part of a slow burn plot that’ll be going on amidst the other plots.
And as always if there’s any questions about anything above, feel free to ask in the QUESTIONS section down below!
- The other fleet was there to help against the raiders, and seem to hold no hostility against the drift fleet passengers, despite having a history of attacking the fleet.
- The other fleet was part of the drift fleet at some point.
- The other fleet is very cautious about being overheard by Atroma, limiting communication between them and the drift fleet. If anyone wants to communicate with them again, they will need to find a way around that.
Those looking for a solution to the communication problem may remember the bugging devices that were found on the ships back in August and had been scrambling communication with Atroma. However, there are consequences to activating one of these devices. Any ship that activates a device will find that by the next day, their crew is experiencing more augment glitches than usual. The glitches in question are mild for now, lasting no more than a day.
The types of possible glitches are as follows:
→ Mood boost
Passenger find themselves more gregarious, able to find greater pleasure in things, inexplicably happy, content. Positivity and optimism increases. Their behavior and base personality themselves aren't necessarily compelled to change, but their internal mood does.
→ Mood drain
The passenger finds themselves influenced much more easily by rage, sadness, fear, paranoia, competitiveness, etc. They may also find themselves bothered by these emotions when they normally wouldn't be. Their behavior and base personality themselves aren't necessarily compelled to change, but their internal mood does.
→ Lethargy
The passenger finds their energy greatly drained. They may find themselves compelled to sleep or lounge around all day. They may find that even simple tasks take far more energy than they are compelled to exert. Their behavior and base personalities themselves aren’t necessarily compelled to change, but energy level does.
→ Hyperactivity
The passenger finds themselves overflowing with physical and mental energy. Sleep is all but impossible, and even resting still is uncomfortable. They will be driven to find ways to expend energy, and boredom will feel crushing.Their behavior and base personalities themselves aren’t necessarily compelled to change, but energy level does.

If that makes sense.

kaworu has technokinetic abilities, and i'd like to know if this skill will affect his dealings with the device.

basically, this (the dismissal of an electronic locking mechanism) and this (the unlocking (he's pretty good with locks?!), removal, and reactivation of a mechanized/electronic collar) are his most blatant displays of technokinesis. the extent of his abilities are not elaborated upon in canon or really very much in extra materials, because creator hideaki anno is intent on letting us all wander blind forever. ;_; um, anyway, what it seems, from displays like this, is that he can, at the very least, activate or deactivate electronic mechanisms at will. FOR THE RECORD, he is also able to scramble and/or completely block out radio signals, himself.
i don't know how helpful this is to you, but if i can answer anything else for you, i will try!

From the sound of it, his powers sound like they could be used to activate the device without needing to do it manually! So basically it can help them skip some step or some time to get it to turn on. But besides that, it wouldn't affect things all too much I think.
