Let's be honest, no one's ever ready for Edna.]

Wow, you really are that much of a goody-goody. I can't believe it. It's like the princess never left.

[As annoying as she professes Eleanor to be, it's sorta nice that there are some people who can see her. And if she traveled with Eizen and that Lord of Calamity, then she can't be that bad.]

What makes you think that our healing artes are going to work on the Dasioe? Have you tried it before now, without a seraph or malak tethered to you.

[To be fair, Edna is someone she kind of knows.]

[Does that mean she's ready for her? Definitely not.]

I don't see what's wrong with trying to help other people. [Or fish people, as the case may be.]

And even if they don't work, we can still take over supplies. It's better to do something than nothing.

[No, listening to Eizen doesn't really give you enough data to process Edna. She is something one must experience on your own. Eavesdropping on a private letter between siblings doesn't count for jack shit.

And no one is ever ready for the Edna Inquisition. It comes with a lot of stabby.]

Depends on why you're trying to help others, doesn't it? Are you really doing it so they can have an easier time? Or are you doing it to fuel some selfish desire to make yourself look better in front of other people?

[Even being Eizen's sister, Eleanor had always assumed Edna would be a very gentle individual.]

[Where she got that notion is anybody's guess, but it's clearly hurting her now.]

It shouldn't matter. Helping others is helping others, isn't it? [She looks very noticeably sad. Eleanor never really cared about looking good in front of others, she was earnestly only trying to help.]

[But her earnest drive to help, coupled with her stubbornness, had costed others dearly. No matter the girl's intentions, Edna's words do have some sting to them.]

Ah, I wouldn't dream of asking you! [Eleanor doubted that Edna was telling the truth, but she also knew that if anything happened to Edna, the exorcist was dead.]

[ This is nearly too easy. It's obvious that the exorcist thought that Edna was some kind person and wasn't actually prepared for a face-to-face meeting with the Earth Seraph.

Oh, is that what they taught back in the Abbey to all the little pawns? What a shame.

[It's obvious that Edna struck a nerve, but she really hates naivety that can lead to harm of others, and this girl reeks of it. Like a wet dog.]

The reasons for why we do the things we do is very important. Especially since one of us can manifest something that can hurt the other if they have selfish and base desires. Isn't that right, Earth Dweller?

[She doesn't yell. She doesn't snarl. Her voice is calm and to the point, devoid of anything but cold, hard truth.]

I know you didn't ask me specifically, but you are looking for others to join you in your little crusade, are you not?

[That...that was a very sore area for Eleanor. Even after everything that happened, she still felt guilty about some of the things that she'd done as a part of the Abbey.]

[But it was because of that guilt that she had to move forward. She couldn't just ask for forgiveness, she also had to work to do what good she could.]

It may have been what the Abbey taught, but it was also a decision I made for myself. I am nobody's pawn.

[Not anymore, anyway.]

And that's exactly why I asked for volunteers. Those who feel like they can help are welcome to, but those who don't aren't obliged to join. Including you.

[Edna's face turns up into a slow, satisfied smirk.]

So the puppy has teeth, but you're missing my point. Selfishness, hatred and vanity cause malevolence. And, well, not even you are immune to that, are you?

[She's human, after all. Even Sorey, as pure and gentle as he is, had to struggle with those feelings. Rose and Alisha too.

Besides, if Eleanor thought that Eizen was overprotective, she doesn't know anything about how Edna feels about her brother.]

Oh, I'm sure that I can help, at least temporarily. Seraphic artes are very useful, after all. And I never do anything I don't want to. I'm no tool.

[Eleanor huffs and she sighs. Edna does have a point; there were a few times where Eleanor nearly succumbed to the malevolence herself. Emotions are Eleanor's strength, just as much as they are her weakness.]

I'm not, no. But malevolence can also be caused by sloth and gluttony. Exposing oneself to the risk of malevolence is an inherent part of being human, and if I'm going to take that risk, I'm going to help someone else in the process.

[Or something. Months later, and she's still a little shaken about the truth of the daemonblight. All humans hold hatred in their hearts, and she isn't an exception. But if Velvet had taught her anything it was that hatred was an essential part of being human.]

Useful or not, if you aren't going to give your all to the recovery effort, it would be best you stayed back.

[Otherwise, Edna's only a liability.]
