[ she thinks for a moment, about how to approach this ]

So, Clark. Have you ever heard of the multiverse?

[ Multiverse? ]

I can't say that I have.

So, this is either a really weird coincidence or... we're from slightly different Earths.

Like. The way it was explained to me, is that there are multiple Earths, all occupying the same space, but they all vibrate at different frequencies? So it's not like the same physical space...

So, like alternate universes? In Science Fiction?

[ she has no idea. he might totally take this wrong. she could be totally wrong... but she doesn't think she is ]

[ He absorbs this explanation before nodding. ]

It would explain the similarities.

[ He hesitates. ]

Then you're familiar with . . . Superman?

He's my cousin.

[anewhope]

[ . . . He carefully removes his glasses to tuck them away. His cousin. Kal-El's cousin. He wasn't afraid of her, but he was . . . unsure of himself. He barely knows anything of Krypton.

And he gave it up for Earth. Tentatively, he speaks. ]

I didn't know I had a cousin.

Well, that's somewhat disappointing, but I guess it comes with the territory of the multiverse?

Kara Zor-El. I was actually sent to Earth to protect you as a baby, but got stuck in the Phantom Zone for 20 years on the way in. So now you're older than me. In both worlds.

[ she's... relieved. and excited to talk about things. her tone is discreet but conversational. this is exciting!!!! ]

[anewhope]

[ He purses his lips. He doesn't know where to start. His time with his father was so limited that Clark didn't have time to ask all the questions that had burned inside of him.

And now, he's not sure he has the right to speak of Krypton at all. ]

Did you know my parents?

[ she nods ]

I was 12 when we left, and Zor-El and Lara lived close by my whole life.

[anewhope]

[ What were they like? What was Krypton like? he wants to say and stops himself. ]

[ she smiles ]

I wish I could've actually protected you, but by the time I showed up, you seemed to be doing well. Your foster parents should get the credit, really.

[anewhope]

I'm sure they'd be happy to meet you sometime. I got lucky.

[ Who knows what would have happened if he hadn't landed with the Kents. ]

I ended up with a great foster family, too. I have a sister, named Alex, and her parents have always been really good to me.

[anewhope]

I'm glad. That's quite a relief.

[ It looks like this other Superman took care of his cousin and they're connected. That matters. ]

So, you're lucky. There's an actual sun near this moon, even if it's pretty muddled by the pollution. The last place we docked had artificial light and it did nothing for me. I was totally tapped out. This is at least a little better.

[anewhope]

[ He looks down at his hands, clenching his fist. ]

It's strange. I've always had to be extremely careful. Now, I'm not sure what the limits are.

Well, I'd never actually want to fight you, but at least I'm close to your level, probably.

Especially if you're that new at all of this. I've been holding my own lately, at home.

Glad to hear it.

[ He's pretty sure anyone could beat him. He's just invulnerable to the many attempts to try. ]

My first fight did not go well. I'm willing to learn some pointers.

Really? What happened?

A lot of people got hurt. I had hoped that Zod would change his mind. That he might reconsider. I took my doubts into the fight.

[ He won't do that again. ]

It was my fault.

Zod?

[ she does sympathize with this scenario... but is willing to let him finish telling his story before jumping in ]

[ He hesitates before continuing. ]

General Zod. He planned the coup on Krypton. And he killed Jor-El.

[ that information surprises her. it doesn't align with what she knows, but it could be true, regardless of dimension ]

Oh. I don't know anything about that...

[anewhope]

My father told me.

[ Which sounds weird, but Kara could probably understand how. ]

I had his key and he explained what happened to Krypton.
