[She takes the hand and shakes, though there's a bit of unsureness in the gesture. She's clearly not used to handshakes.

Her hand, for the record, is solid and warm and certainly feels alive.]

My real name would cause all sorts of unfortunate problems, so right now, I go by Caster. It's a pleasure~!

It kinda gives me the creeps. [ Says the child used to walkers roaming the forest. ] You know when you get goosebumps but you're not sure why? It's similar to that.

[ That's honestly the best way to put it. He's not going to not go in, but at the same time, something doesn't feel right and Carl can't put his finger on the why.

Carl lets out an amused huff, shifting the brim of his hat. His tone matches her own. ]

Yeah, it was right between the mac and cheese and the tater tots.

    Hm. Yeah, I get that.

[And he's probably right. The forest could also still have other things to worry about - worse things than scavengers.]

What - no pizza? Not even a slice?
    stefanged: (that's rough buddy)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2016-10-25 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
At this point? Most people are still freaking out about outer space, but you're taking it really well.

[Ghost... space ship... Stefan's face loses all its color.]

Ah, no, it's more augment-related. [He reaches for the base of his neck, just to feel that metal.] Every passenger's got one, but sometimes, they act up and you lose your memories or you turn into the opposite gender or - I don't know, become a little kid.

[ Hell, he's still willing to wade through it and see what the forest offers. Who knows what's in there. At the same time, who knows what's in there.. Things like that have never really stopped any of them from pushing forward, though. Don't know what's out there until you start exploring. ]

I'm sure they probably forgot the pizza. They had to remember all the other stuff, first. [ He's quiet for a few moments before he sighs in defeat. ]

    Chicken alfredo...

Ahhh, of course. I suppose the shock's worn off- although I'm sure there's still something out there to surprise me. I'm not that travelled in space.

[oh, whoops. He grimaces at that- hopefully that won't lead to anything bad in the future.]

Ah… those things. [He copies the movement, expression dropping. It's not a pleasant feeling, but- well, it's not as though there's anything to do about it.] There's no pattern to it? That sounds as though it'd be disorientating… Has anything like that happened to you?
    Edited 2016-10-25 05:16 (UTC)
stefanged: (that is a fair point)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2016-10-25 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Only the memory loss. "Glitches" don't last more than a couple of weeks, and they fix themselves, so it's not exactly the end of the world.

[He sighs a little at the memory; he sure would've liked to have known he'd slip back into his past self.]

They're not common, either, so don't worry - it's only happened to me once.
    desertdaggers: (bugs mean poison)

    [personal profile] desertdaggers 2016-10-25 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's good to hear. [he makes a face] Then again, I suppose it wouldn't be very interesting if those went on for too long.

[he nods, cocking his head to one side.]

Once sounds like plenty in any case, if you ask me.
    stefanged: (oh really now?)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2016-10-25 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah. I would've preferred none, or maybe even if the ships acting up... but what did you mean by, you weren't very well-travelled?

[He's curious. Again, most people aren't familiar with outer space, let alone the weird that is the Fleet.]

Can I ask what your last place was like?
    desertdaggers: (you don't say)

    [personal profile] desertdaggers 2016-10-25 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, well- we just had the one space station we were on. Some of the others visited the other planets nearby, but- [he rubs the back of his head.] Well, I didn't.

Oh- of course. [he hums, thinking.] Well- it was out in space, but we didn't know that, to begin with. It was set up like a town- town hall, hospital, shops, gardens, all of that. We were brought on as part of an experiment to see if bringing back the dead was possible. So- things happened there like statues coming to life, or puzzles being on every doorway or window.
    pain_train: (grin 6)

    Waystation of course :)

[Well, she can't ignore a call for help like that, and wouldn't want to anyway. Wrath to the rescue. She charges in and launches herself at Carl's attacker, landing her signature flying headbutt on the evildoer. That'll make him let go.]
    recipio: (Default)

jfc wrath he probably doesn't have ribs anymore

    [personal profile] recipio 2016-10-25 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Carl is aware of exactly three things at the exact same time.

    1. His arm is no longer in that jerk's grip
    2. The guy just got hit in the chest by what looks like a pink bullet.
    3. That pink bullet is a person. A person just sent a guy flying with a headbutt.

What the hell?? The force was enough to knock the hat off, and he bends down quick enough to pick up the battered thing and shove it back onto his head. Carl doesn't know how he's supposed to feel about this woman, so he keeps his distance, shoulders squared. ]

    Uh. Thanks..
    recipio: (Default)

B;; just gonna tag you this time

    [personal profile] recipio 2016-10-25 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ This forest is massive, easily dwarfing the wilderness at home. The trees feel like they go for miles in every direction, and it's hard to see the sky from the dense branches overhead. Carl can't ignore the opportunity to actually enjoy wandering around the woods without worrying about rogue walkers or worse.

He clambers over a fallen tree, continuing down what he thinks looks like a footpath when he spots a familiar figure reclined against a tree. Carl blinks hard, just to make sure she's really there before going over and crouching in front of her. ]

That tree doesn't look very comfy.
    pain_train: (grin 5)

Scum doesn't deserve to have ribs gosh

    [personal profile] pain_train 2016-10-25 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Wrath straightens to her unimpressive height and smiles brightly.]

    You're welcome. You okay?

[Groaning, the scumbag tries to sit up. Wrath punches him lightly in the jaw. He stays down.]
    recipio: (Default)

    Okay, fair enough.

    [personal profile] recipio 2016-10-25 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ..That is really pink hair. She's not as tall as he thought, but it was hard to tell while she was barreling into that guy. Carl nods his head and steps a little closer. ]

    Yeah, I'm fine.

[ Adrenaline's a little shot up right now, but hey. Totally in one piece. ]
    youdontneedapictureofme: (Default)

yes good i need more practice

You forget - I grew up on a farm.

[She smiles, still not opening her eyes just yet and instead pats a spot beside her. Opening her eyes, not waiting for him to sit with her, she takes him in.]

Y'know - I still wonder if this place is real. I keep expectin' walkers to come jumpin' out at us.

[Speaking of stopping - Maggie stops near one of the less seedy looking stalls, holding up a beat up shirt. It looked about his size? When did they ever have clothes that didn't come from being looted or stolen from abandoned houses or stores? She couldn't remember the last time that happened.]

Hmm. Your daddy must have his hands full. You keep growin' like that.

[She grins, setting it aside along with their game - for now.]

No wonder you eat so much. Hollow legs.

[Maggie looks about again, sighing almost wistfully. She couldn't believe that they were doing something so normal as looking at food or clothes or just walking around without having to completely look over their shoulders.]

I'm sure it ain't so bad though. The food might grow on me.

Do you remember last time? You were here for a couple of weeks.

    [ a small smile. ]

    Tony's First Mate.

[ a combination that led to many arguments. Steve was on Sam's side a remarkable 100% of the time ]

    we keep crossing paths...

    [personal profile] notanoptimist 2016-10-25 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Somehow, Jim quite literally crossing his path out here doesn't register on the Scale of Weird like it perhaps should. (Welcome to Starfleet, your life is now Weird, capital W.) It is, however, enough of a surprise to set McCoy back on his heels a bit.

Even takes him a second to answer, because the thrill of sheer relief at seeing a familiar (and actually liked, for some reason) face takes his voice away.]

    What'd you do?

[Doesn't steal his voice for too long though and, yes, that's a pertinent question.]
    notanoptimist: (fondly exasperated)

    [personal profile] notanoptimist 2016-10-25 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Beverly, that dumb grin is Not Helping. McCoy runs a hand over his face and snorts. Infamous, huh? Somehow, he can believe that.]

    Left it on the Enterprise.

[Which, you know, considering the ship's being rebuilt practically from the ground up this time, says a bit.]

    [personal profile] universal_charm 2016-10-25 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)

[ That should really be one of Star Fleet's recruitment slogans. They'd surely attract quite the new array of cadets. Also it would be fair warning. But that wasn't the point here. The point was that despite stumbling upon a wild Bones in the backwoods of nowhere and potentially being stalked by rodents of an unusual size, he was being blamed for the situation. Deadpan replaced shock, throwing his eyes heavenward for a moment. ]

Why do you assume this is any of my doing?

[ He might be huffing a little, but he's still walking towards the doctor with the full intention of hugging him til he went a touch blue. ]

[ It feels weird being able to do mundane shit like browse an outdoor market. Carl remembers his mom and grandma loved dragging him yard saleing during the summers when he was a kid. This feels pretty close to that. He's going to chase the feeling a little while... Who knows when they'll be sent back; or what's going to happen to them?

He shrugs, offering a smile. Sure, he'd had a growth spurt at some point, but now his clothes aren't too big for him at least. ]

Doesn't seem to have too much of a problem with it. There were enough hand me downs in the prison.

[ Being in the fleet is weird, and Carl can't quite figure out what to do with himself. Back home, everybody had a job and if you didn't do your job, it could be bad. Here, though? People didn't seem too fussed about it one way or the other. He doesn't know if he could actually act like a kid. ]

[All right. That's not good. McCoy stops, hands held at his sides, and decides for non-confrontational. (Because he's pretty sure he'd end up on the losing side of any sort of confrontation here, judging by the flash of teeth.) There's a thrill of fear up his spine, but he's learned (through hard-won experience) to keep it from showing too much.

    Definitely there, though.]

I can take a few guesses.

    [Giant teeth, gaping maws...]
