Is it? Well, I don't really know. My friends have weird names like "Winn".

With a name like that, I'm lucky to be named Clark. Though my boss often calls me Smallville, so perhaps that's as bad as Winn.

[ Getting Perry to call him by his name is impossible. ]

Why Smallville?

It's where I grew up. Small town. Nothing special.

[ And it is Perry's way of saying he has a long way to go. ]

But I take it you moved away from the small town, or else your boss wouldn't be giving you trouble.

[ A small smile, faintly nostalgic. ]

I felt it was time to try something new.

It's good to move away from home most of the time. Just get some new experiences, you know?

If you want another place to look at masks, I think there's another shop up the way.

[ He nods. ]

I like your glasses, by the way. It's kind of hard to make the masks work with them but there are some styles that are better than others.

[ she has a pair of her own. if Clark thought to look, he'd notice they're lead-lined ]

[ He touches his, a little self-conscious. He had only just started wearing these. ]

I don't think I'll have much of a problem.

Really? Are they mostly a fashion statement?

What? No.

My vision isn't all that bad. It's mostly for the fine print.

It's the same for me. Wearing them helps me focus on details.

[ He grins, bemused. ]

Yes. But not very well. I've only just started working there.

So, Clark. Have you ever heard of the multiverse?

[ Multiverse? ]

I can't say that I have.

So, this is either a really weird coincidence or... we're from slightly different Earths.

Like. The way it was explained to me, is that there are multiple Earths, all occupying the same space, but they all vibrate at different frequencies? So it's not like the same physical space...

So, like alternate universes? In Science Fiction?

[ she has no idea. he might totally take this wrong. she could be totally wrong... but she doesn't think she is ]

[ He absorbs this explanation before nodding. ]

It would explain the similarities.

[ He hesitates. ]

Then you're familiar with . . . Superman?

He's my cousin.

[anewhope]

[ . . . He carefully removes his glasses to tuck them away. His cousin. Kal-El's cousin. He wasn't afraid of her, but he was . . . unsure of himself. He barely knows anything of Krypton.

And he gave it up for Earth. Tentatively, he speaks. ]

I didn't know I had a cousin.

Well, that's somewhat disappointing, but I guess it comes with the territory of the multiverse?

Kara Zor-El. I was actually sent to Earth to protect you as a baby, but got stuck in the Phantom Zone for 20 years on the way in. So now you're older than me. In both worlds.

[ she's... relieved. and excited to talk about things. her tone is discreet but conversational. this is exciting!!!! ]
